I see it's about to become a criminal offence.

How's it not one already? Crazy it has needed such a concerted effort.

Guardrooms in Highland regiments had a mirror on the floor and Jocks in kilts would have an undercarriage check before going on duties or out in public.

It has always been illegal. Just under a different charge. They are just upgrading amd hoghlighting it as a specific crime rather than filed under indecemcy

England really needs to drag itself into the 21st century. Disgraceful performance from a Tory again. Thank goodness Scotland did the right thing back in 2009.

In fairness, he's objected as it wasn't debated. Whilst it sounds straightforward - don't take photos up a skirt or you're getting a slap - is it?

He objected because that's what he does. What debate does it need?

I assume it's because it's not as simple as "Don't do it". No doubt you have to define skirts and other such things that seem pointless but matter. Already seen on this thread people asking about kilts, for example.

Rubbish. The minutae would be done in committee. He has form objecting to private member bills. He's a knob.

If he is a Tory, he is probably just worried it may prevent fellow Tories from upskirting underage girls

He has form for this kind of thing, he's done it since he was first elected in 1983. His constituents must not mind too much, because they keep voting for him.

In fact I think he objects to the majority of Private Bills, as he objects to the principle of rushing new legislation through on a Friday afternoon when there aren't many MPs in the house, and without a proper debate. He'd have objected to any bill being rushed through in this way, as is his right.

He will have known well in advance that he'd would take an absolute kicking in the media for objecting to this bill (no doubt it'll be portrayed that he's somehow supportive of upskirting), and, I must say, I have some respect for him for sticking to his guns when he must've known what will be coming in his direction. Not every MP has the guts to do that.

For what it's worth, I supported the bill going through, just in case anyone thinks I'm supportive of upskirting for defending Christopher Chope's right to object.

The main problem I have with the objection is that he doesn't have to give any sort of reasoning or rationale for it.

Surely any objection should have to have some level of merit or opinion from the objector? He seems to be a serial objector because he doesn't like the idea of private members bills. That's it.

As far as I can tell, he's able to just object with no reasoning and that's enough to park the bill and put it to the back of the queue.

UK democracy eh?

I prefer Ballingry law, If I seen a guy taking a pic up a girls skirt, he wouldn't be able to look at the pictures for weeks , until the swelling around his face allowed him to open his eyes.... even then he would have to get someone to operate his phone until his hands healed.

Maybe not PC but it is effective .

Just noticed he's 71 too. Whether right or wrong, surely he should retire and let someone else have a go? Can't imagine he's staying on because he has to.
