D.A.F.C. Community Soccer Schools successfull

Author: DAFC Date: Tuesday, 27th Aug 2002

During the past few months D.A.F.C. have reviewed their existing Community Soccer Schools programme. This ‘open for all’ programme was delivered throughout Fife and has been highly regarded, last year more than 800 children of ages 5-11 were involved in what has been one of the largest schemes of its kind

To further enhance this provision D.A.F.C. have joined forces with the Scottish Football Association and Fife Council’s S.F.A. Football Development Programme to ensure that provision is focussed primarily around the Dunfermline area.

Several discussions with the Scottish Football Association and Fife Council’s S.F.A. Football Development Programme precipitated D.A.F.C.’s joining forces with both bodies. This means that the three bodies can now avoid duplication of effort and make the best of finite resources, ensuring availability of soccer training to the widest audience across Fife.

D.A.F.C. coaches are now participating in a further programme of S.F.A. Coach Education Courses, ensuring our coaches qualifications are up to date and of a high level and our renewed openness with Fife Council ensures that Education Services are fully aware of the coaching standards and working practices D.A.F.C. Community adhere to whilst delivering soccer training to school children.

And of course, joining forces means that D.A.F.C. can reduce the cost of training sessions from £3.00 to £2.50 for a one-hour training session and offer concessions to Premier FifeStyle cardholders, an important issue within Fife Council’s Social Inclusion policy.

In June D.A.F.C. wrote to all Primary Schools in the Dunfermline area offering soccer coaching services and we received a very favourable response. We have also extended our services into the 1st year of local Secondary Schools and hope to initiate soccer coaching to Dunfermline High and Inverkeithing High pupils within the next few weeks.

Our programme recommences 26th August with delivery to 28 schools.

D.A.F.C. employ four full time Community Coaches, led by John Glancy, delivering soccer training to school children both during and after school hours as well as nurturing a development squad for young talent.
