More new signings to arrive at East End Park this month?
Author: Philip Meldrum Date: Thursday, 27th Jun 2002Jimmy Calderwood is currently considering signing two more players before the start of next season.
It did seem certain that Scott Walker would be the last player to arrive at the club this summer. However, two new faces are currently training with the squad in New Zealand. Aussie duo Marcus Stergioplolus and Michael Cartwright are both searching for a new club, and Jimmy Calderwood has given them the chance to impress in training. However, it seems that neither player will start the friendly match against New Zealand on Friday.
Marcus Stergiopolus, aged 28, has formely played for Sydney, and enjoyed a brief spell with Bradford last season. If he impresses, he could be signed to fill the gap that the outgoing Ian Ferguson has left in midfield.
Michael Cartwright played with Northern Spirit last term, and he may be signed to partner Andreas Skerla in the centre of defence - a move that would allow Scott Thomson to play in his favourite position behind the strikers.
Outside the Old Firm, only Livingstone and Dunfermline have made significant additions to their squads' during the close season. Lets hope that the new players can repay John Yorkston's faith in them by winning a place in the UEFA cup come the end of next season.
