Player Ratings v Cowdenbeath

Author: J Barber Date: Wednesday, 25th Sep 2002

Dunfermline made it past Cowdenbeath on Tuesday night, beating them 2-1 after extra time.

Here is an opinion on how the players rated in a frustrating night in front of goal....

Derek Stillie: Full debut for the keeper. No chance with their rocket goal, apart from that had little to do! Spectator who did what little he had to when called upon. 7/10
Scott Wilson: Booked again for next to nothing which was disappointing. Solitary defender at times as the Pars pushed up. 7/10
Andrius Skerla: A night to forget for the classy defender! Not really his favrouite type of player he was up against and made quite a few mistakes. 6/10
Scott Thomson: Pulled Dunfermline back into in with first goal of the season. Pushed up front at time went on. 7/10
Chris McGroarty: Looked short of match practice. Gave ball away too often and did not look happy with his lot. Will no doubt improve with more games. 5/10
Sean Kilgannon: Fired plenty of crosses into the box. Skinned their right back countless times but did not use his pace as often as he perhaps should have. 6/10
Gary Mason: Not a good night for him. Still not quite clicking after another disappointing performance. Can play so much better, against Aberdeen would do! Subbed at half time. 5/10
Gary Dempsey: Nothing really came off for him. Always looking to drive forward and had a couple of efforts on goal. Enthusiastic as always. 6/10
Barry Nicholson: Surprising choice for penalty taker considering Crawford & Thomson were playing. Managed to get over penalty miss by playing superbly in second half. Took game by scruff of the neck and showed maturity in his play. 7/10
Stevie Crawford: Heart in mouth moment when he went down suddenly after catching his studs in the grass, but recovered! Closely marked throughout but managed to play plenty of good passes and was involved in most of the moves on their goal, unlucky not to score. 7/10
Lee Bullen: Pushed up front in place of Brewster and scored the winner in extra time! Could have had a hat trick before that mind you. Could be a priceless goal from Bully. 7/10

Subs used:

Jason Dair: Replaced the ineffective Mason at half time. Lost ball far too often on the right side when one on one. Other times he linked up well with Nicholson. 6/10
Davie Nicholls: Brought on during first spell of E.T. Did not have too big an effect on the match. 5/10
Scott Walker: Brought on to shore up defence to ensure 2-1 result stayed in place. Only on park for a few minutes. 5/10
