BBC Radio Scotland - Saturday Sportsound

The last two weekends the show on FM has gone quickly (just after 2pm) to live broadcast of lunchtime matches which are also being covered on AM.

OK, some folk seem to have problems tuning into medium wave - but do we really need both frequencies covering the same game ?

I haven't had a chance to tune in on DAB at the same time - but I expect it is the same coverage as FM ?

Sportsound is only an hour long before regular kick off time, so missing 15-20 minutes is a pain in rear.

Rant over.

"It's been that way for years."

Not that I've been paying much attention, but in previous seasons I thought they always switched from one frequency to the other to avoid duplication ?

They used to have 2 separate games but then changed to open all mics on one and a game on the other.

That open all mics is the most frustrating show.

You're just getting into listening to a point being made in the studio, when Chick Young or another roars in with OOOOOHHHHH just over the bar and the prior discussion is lost.

So much radio now is just a rammy. The commentators and reporters seem so intent on cracking in-jokes and laughing amongst themselves that's it hard for the listeners to follow what's going on. And don't get me started on their assassination of the English language. Bob Crampsey must be birling in his grave.

Agree with that.

The 'art' of actually listening to the radio seems to be a thing of the past.

As The Buggles sang 'Video killed the radio star'.

I don’t know why they persist in broadcasting a discussion against a background of a loud stadium PA system blaring out some irrelevant announcement or guff music. Richard Gordon is a class act, though. Broadcasting live, on a four hour show and controlling the numpties is quite a task.

ex-players talking in the usual tripe and cliche. Derek Ferguson up there with the very worst of them. do normally listen to get the manager reactions and scores on the way home.

'Birl' is in both my dictionaries, Scots and English. 'Burrl' is in neither.
