Topic Originator: 1970par
Date:   Sat 1 Sep 09:31

The Seven Heries Of Moeuvres Pin Badges will be available from me today in Legends if people want them

They are to commerate the action of Pars fan David Hunter VC who won the military’s top honour in 16th September 1918 (almost 100 years ago)

The red shirts which were worn by the club last week (and will be again on the 15th September v Alloa) also commemerate this event which will be followed on Sunday 16th September by a public unveiling of the cairn outside the stadium (beside the marble bench) This event will be attended by a delegation from Moeuvres France

Funds from the following sold out lunch will go to The Poppy Scotland appeal and to the Dunfermline Athletic Heritage Trust

The pin badges are for sale at £4, first come first served

What a tease we were not giving details of the sales, it did create a lot of interest though with over 3148 views

Get them today £4, I’m in Legends from noon

Hi Mr Nice 1970par,

Can you please put one aside for me.

Probably not catch up with you for three weeks or so but hopefully I am good for it.

Prediction League updated and I will let you stay in front of both my entries until I pay you.

Warmest Regards

Timothy

Well, there are lots of emails, texts, messenger, word of mouth people who want one, there were nearly 60 sales today and I need around 100 for the event on 16th

I only ordered 250 so to be honest there are not a lot still available

Hopefully I will be able to keep up with everyone who has asked for one to be put aside but it’s quite difficult to keep track

While I appreciate and recognise the efforts of David Hunter, I am still struggling to see why so much is being done to link him to the club. McCrea's Battalion I can understand, as there was a proper link to the club with players being represented, but this chap was just a fan. The whole linking of War to the club, even on Poppy day sits uneasily with me, there is a time and place for that. Seems too much like a vanity project by a board member to me

I would love to explain the whole sequence of events that led us to where we are and the culmination of four years work, unfortunately if I was to do this it would lead to the longest post in history

If there are those who do not wish to support the initiative then of course this is your perogative and no-one would miscry you for doing so, however there is a story that should be told and for those of us who wish to recognise a brave soldier, his colleagues and indeed all who gave their lives in service to their country please don’t pass comment on how we have come to this point without the full facts

I am proud to be a small part in putting together a tribute to a man and his colleagues who were put into a situation where they had to defend their lives against all odds

I totally agree that it sounds like a story that should be told, however I am struggling to see in what context Dunfermline Athletic should be in any way involved in that story

Mr Hunter VC was a lifelong Pars fan who stood on the terraces at East End Park long after the war ended

On the 100th anniversary of the action the government supply a Memorial stone to be placed in a place of the VC winners descendants choosing, the club are proud that the family have chosen outside the stadium to site the memorial on a specially built cairn which includes bricks from the battlefield, there will also be a time capsule encased in the memorial

Dunfermline Athletic had a player killed in the opening day of the Battle Of The Somme whilst serving with McCraes Battalion, one of our Committee members (board of directors)was also killed, there were I am sure many many Pars fans who will have given their lives in service of our country, there is therefore a very relevant connection to our football club

Well done 1970par.

Can't see why anybody can object to this, but it's like the old poppy debate.

If people disagree then don't get involved.

I think your last post and absolutely no pun intended, summarises the situation very well.

Nice to see the players wearing the “Seven Heroes” Red shirts at Borehamwood yesterday, they will be worn again on Saturday against Alloa on the 100 year commemoration weekend

You will have the chance to buy the Seven Heroes pin badges next week before the Alloa game, catch me in Legends before the game (I normally sit under the spiral staircase with my fellow Trailblazers)

Badges will also be available on Sunday 16 the to anyone attending the commemorative event where the Hunters VC cairn will be unveiled and the time capsule interred

Sorry I will not catch up with you on the 16th. I know the occasion will be both appropriate and very moving.

Please will you keep a badge for me and I will see you in Legends in October.

If you need the money earlier - I am sure Stanza will cover it meantime. Like you Mr 1970par he seems to do everything else!

Sunday looked like a really fitting and appropriate day. I could not be there but I understand the amount of hard work, organisation and thought that so many put in. They, once more, should take a moment to feel really proud of making another occasion for the wider DAFC family being so "just right".
