 Penalty shoot-outs
Topic Originator: wee eck

Since the shambles in the Scottish Cup replay at Hamilton two seasons ago, when all three Pars penalties were missed, we have won all three penalty shoot-outs we have taken part in.

Last season we beat East Fife 9-8 with no misses in the League Cup followed by a 3-1 win against Hearts at Tynecastle in the same competition when only Declan McManus missed. Saturday's 6-5 win at Borehamwood meant we had only missed one penalty out of 19 taken in shoot-outs since Hamilton.

Bearing in mind that we also missed 3 out of 3 against Dundee United in normal time that season have we finally laid that bogey to rest - or am I tempting providence?

Since I started supporting the Pars in 99 I can only remember us losing two penalty shoot outs? The afore mentioned Hamilton game and a challenge cup game against Qots.

Then again the only other penalty shoot out I can think off is a a victory against Aberdeen in the quarters?

We won one at Aye midweek. Also remember beating St Mirren home and East Fife away in the old league cup. Not forgetting semi final v Airdrie when we got the dodgiest penalty ever to make it one all.

Remember that one- Jimmy Sandison conceded it. Norrie scored the winning pen-think John Watson missed for them.

We also lost one to Morton at EEP in the Challenge Cup in the 99-00 season. I think David Graham may have been the culprit who missed.

Inverness beat us at home a year or two later in the League Cup as well.

I'm sure they went through the whole 120 minutes of play without any subs, still enough left afterwards for a shootout with a team from the division above.

remember that inverness game. Jack De Gier slap bang in the middle of his drought and missed umpteen chances from memory.

Higgys double miss against ayr, Gotzie Ugwu, moff hitting the bar against Forfar. Certainly some penalty aches in recent memory

A four-team, weekend, pre-season tournament in Montrose about 20 years ago.

We'd won on the Saturday (possibly against East Fife), then played the final on the Sunday (again not sure, Bradford or Oldham perhaps). It was level at 90 minutes and, I think, went straight to penalties. Their first was saved (or missed completely but fairly sure it was saved) then Marc Miller put his away. That was it, the players just trooped off without much fuss.

I realise there's a lot of uncertainty is this, but the shoot-out was definitely sudden-death from the beginning.

parsfan might have been Preston who had Michael Jackson and Paul Mckenna playing for them at the time. Was about 1997

Jings, I didn't think it could get any worse than a "jinks" on us, now the possibility of a "jinx" exists.
I need a cuddle and a "there there" from my mum as "the worry" and "the fear" is now stalking me like two giant stalking things 😬
