Match thread 1-0 Pars v Thistle
Topic Originator: OzPar
Date:   Fri 28 Sep 19:06

Pars TV is broadcasting a very clear and sharp stream from EEP tonight. I see they have installed the electronic advertising boards for the game. 'Friday on my mind' is blasting over the tannoy. No team news as yet.

Really hope for our sanity and well-being that we get 3 points from tonight. We are well overdue a win.

COYP!

Said this as well when I saw the team. Sadly a 10 minute cameo won't have much impact

Think we're passing it about OK in midfield but there's nothing in the final third and the set pieces have been abysmal. Also a bit concerned that we're still not pressing the opponents at all. Giving Partick time on the ball as they stroke it about at the back will only let them grow into the game.

Pretty poor. Both keepers could be in the dressing room now chilling...feck all chances at goal.

Corner set pieces have been shocking.

Totally lacking in ideas in final third. Four or five corner kicks providing no threat to Thistle who seem very comfortable at the back.

On the odd occasion they come forward we look vulnerable at the back.
Long night ahead.

From what I've seen, despite a bright opening Thistle have sussed us out.
Faiss looks the most intelligent player with no support for us.
I'd look at subs at half time, especially Williamson and Beadling.

Not seen the Pars for quite a while due to other commitments, but what I'm watching on Alba is fekking atrocious. What's the game plan, no energy no fight no clue, just going through the motions. Long season in the lower half of the league awaits.

I went to watch Harrogate Town and Wrexham on Tuesday night and I thought that was bad, keepers punting long balls to one another but this would get football banned/ I think if I had been at EEP I would have been lifted- just as well I am the only one inthe house.

This is horrible to watch. Faiss and Ryan have absolutely no understanding up front - and punting high balls into the area is never going to work with those guys.

Thistle are looking comfortable with three at the back. The number of misplaced passes by the Pars is shocking. We need to vary our dead ball options; Martin's corners have rarely got past the first man. Ironically, Martin is probably our best player so far!

We need to make a couple of subs at half-time and change our approach, but I wouldn't count on AJ having the gumption to do that.

No urgency at all right from the kick off. No pressing from the front, lack of anyone taking responsibility with the exception of Martin who at least has some composure on the ball. Faissal's decision making is terrible, either turns the wrong way, runs into blind alleys or chooses the wrong option. In saying all of that I would still say we have marginally been the better team although they had the best chance.

Watching on Alba and first game since the Count defeat.......we look dreadful! Martin only one looking like a player in that team. Conollys touch is woeful, Faissal and Ryan have no cohesion, defence maybe gets pass marks because we havent conceded yet. Dreadful.

Fais is needing stay forward. Coming short is no good cause he's got far too much to do when he gets it.
He's got the pace to get in behind if we could play decent enough balls to him.

I don't think anyone's playing badly for us, but we're looking blunt. Partick look pretty good at the back. I don't agree that Ryan or Faiss are playing badly, it's just no' workin' for them. Do they need tae stay closer to each other and work one-twos? Martin, Craigen maybe the pick, but they're all putting in a shift. How we could do with a couple o' lucky breaks. And cut out the daft mistakes at the back.

Andy Ryan and Faiss not even trying to play together..both too keen to be the show...both players need someone to do the dirty work and create a chance...a Moff frankly...someone selfless to soak up or enhance the selfish.
I would add...they are not being helped by the punt and hunt.

They are not getting the service mate.
Have you seen one chance sent through to either of them so far?

Be bold, get Williamson and Beadling in the next game.

Think fais is absolutely rotten as is Ryan........our creative play is not worth the paper it's written on......if and half if. We win this I can just here aj's post match.....how we were brilliant and we deserved it blah blah blah.... we have the team to get promoted but not the manager.... my empty bottle of wine says it all ( and before any one comments I didn't finish work till 1930 so couldn't make game as stay in Glasgow) pars through and through but this is poor.

Played well after the goal. Deserved to win. Poor game though.

Plus points.

Durnan played well and saved a last gasp equaliser.
Martin head and shoulders above every player on the park for an hour
Vincent, well never thought he had it in him, great game and mom for me.
Craigen steady as a rock.
Connely scored obviously and was involved in most of out best moments.
Robinson made a couple of saves when he had to especially the late one.

The rest? Poor.

Well, a football match broke out after 75 minutes and we actually created 3/4 good chances. Saddens me to say but that was the worst I have seen Faiss play , I thought he would have been subbed rather than Ryan. A fortunate 3 points but having said that the first time Robinson had a serious save to make was the 92 minute. Thistle were surprisingly poor.

Maybe we’ve needed to go a bit Jose Mourinho about things. AJ has definitely told the full backs to stop pushing on as much. We need to sort out the front line. I’d bench Ryan and/or Faz. Just not working at the minute .

That was not a game where I will be anxiously waiting to view the highlights package.

I don't know why Ryan would complain about getting subbed; he was awful.

Increasingly, Faiss has become a greedy wee bawbag and he needs to be dropped to the bench for a game or two to get his head together - currently, he seems to have no conception of passing into space for others. He works hard but, because of his greed, his effort has little effect.

AJ's reluctance to use subs is just so frustrating. Thomson had a great impact when he came on. I would have liked to have seen Tom Beadling come on for Louis Longridge, whose passing and first-touch was woeful until he paired up with Thomson.

Vincent and Martin were just great and our back four were in the main pretty solid, though they had a couple of frightening moments. There is no doubt that Robinson saved us at the end, but other than that he didn't have much to do.

Partick Thistle really offered no great threat until the last ten minutes when play opened up.

Still, we needed to get three points tonight and that is exactly what we got.

So job done, albeit the hard way...

On Ryan getting subbed, shortly before it Martin was calling at the bench asking for Ryan to be subbed due to a hamstring.

Ryan must have thought it wasn't serious.

When you're on a bad run you need a win. It doesn't matter how. You just get that win. You could see the players lifted after the goal and we could've scored 2 or 3 before the inevitable dodgy last couple of minutes. Hopefully the whole squad gets a lift from that and kicks on.

Well done lads. COYP

I am delighted with the win. Let’s be honest. We were watching two mediocre middle table teams tonight decided on an awful mistake.

I’m a happy Par but lots of work needed if we are going to do anything this season.

Well done Robinson with his late save. Credit where due. Mulrany different level to anyone else on pitch.

I'm thinking our fans know nothing about forwards seriously.
Ryan had to go left wing even to see the ball ffs and Faiss central midfield on occasion.

Its really bizarre to me that football supporters can't see what is in front of their eyes.

I will admit tacticaly I know very little about the ins & outs of football tactics but, I do believe that if the players have confidence in what they are doing and confidence in their team mates then the team will thrive. Hopefully that’s the main point the player, manager, coaches and supporters take from this game. We’re slowly getting better & I’m so happy for all concerned.

Thought we just edged the game over thistle ever so slightly, first half was pretty anonymous but had some decent wee snippets of play here and there, more so in the 2nd half. Definitely some things needing a bit of work in our play but overall positive improvement going forward imo.

"If you'd have been paying attention you'd have seen Ryan asking to go off a couple of times before he was hooked."

It was the other way about - Martin signalled to the bench a few times that Ryan had hurt his hamstring and even made the "sub needed" hand signal, pointed to Ryan then tapped the back of his leg. A few minutes later Ryan looked across to the bench and signalled that he wanted to continue.

"like the rasper in the Norrie who shouted out as the cross came in for the goal there's nae body there ,well who the f put the ball in the net"

To be fair, there was nobody there! Had the defender let it go or got a good contact on his clearance we wouldn't have scored. As it was, he made an bottom of it, Connelly nipped in and we scored. You can call folk all the names you like, but not for that!

Thistle came for a draw. They dropped Erskine for Scobbie from last week's winning team. The problem is, if you play that way, it's difficult to turn things round if you lose a late goal. If we got a break for our goal, it made up for the one we gifted Morton last week. This week the better team won.

Sorry but I disagree Kelty. I was watching Ryan and saw him having a conversation with aj albeit from a distance to the extent that he even made the recognised handsignal for a sub. I was in no doubt at the time that he was looking to go off.

:)

OZ Off for talking sence

Faiss looked the most creative player we had tonight.
Some see that as greed , I don't.

AAPS
I always respect your comments but you must have had tooooooo much cooking cherry tonight ..Fais is brutal .passes are brutal ...and mee mee mee scenario has to change.

Agreed , remind me how many goals Fais has scored in the league this season

It was a win and that's all that matters. Terrible game and we just about edged it based on the latter part of the second half. I do recall our excellent run at the tail end of last season started with a dire 1-0 home win to ICT so hopefully the same again.

That was a welcome 3 points , but let's be honest abt .
We are in a bad place right now .
Apart from a wee 10 minute period
after we were gifted a goal , we created zip .
Take the points and move on , but we are a long way off being a top 4 side .

Well, if the players read even a portion of this thread, their confidence will have nosedived even further. The negativity is frightening to be honest. Again picking on individual players for the treatment. We won against a team who have just been relegated from the top tier, YES WON and got three points, lighten up for heavens sake. Are we going to take this negative outlook forward to the Falkirk game? Hope not, when your team is struggling you get behind them to give them a lift, a wee bit positivity please!

From my perspective

1. Its 3 valuable points
2. An individual error cost us a win last week
3. We have a good squad of players some returning frominjury

Its a tough league with all the teams around the same level. As long as we keep plugging away maintaining a professional attitude we will be up there at the end of the season.

A win, that's an improvement. After we scored we were much better, which admittedly was not difficult given what we produced before then.

Some positives; defence was fine again, Robinson made up for his mistake last week & Martin certainly adds something. Louis Longridge was excellent in the last 20 (the less said the better about his previous 70 minutes), Thomson added something when he came on. Vincent was also much better in the last half hour.

Still plenty to work on! Ryan and Faz are not convincing, Faz does some brilliant and some terrible things - he needs a goal badly. Ryan is a goal threat but don't expect him to contribute much positively apart from that. Probably we need to give them a few more games though to try and build up more understanding.

I still think we are too inflexible tactically; both Connolly and L Longridge were poor until the goal, can we not try to swap them for 5-10 minutes, let them drift inside where they could be more dangerous and link better with the forwards. It also means that both fullbacks can overlap.

That's annoyed me for years, and it's bizarre that as a former winger Johnston doesn't try and switch the wingers even for 10 minutes jist to give the opposition full back something different to think about. It's such an obvious ploy to try, especially when it isn't clicking on the park.

We won on a howler mistake against a very poor PT side.

If the defender hadn’t have gifted Connolly the chance both teams could likely still be playing at 0-0 this morning.

The goalkeepers could have sat out the first half in the centre stand and nobody would have noticed.

Even in the second 45 minutes the keepers were rarely troubled, Robinson’s great block aside.

The goal and Ryan’s substitution changed the game and the Pars suddenly turned up for a competitive match.

We are still nothing more than an average second tier side as things stand.

Thistle were poor, United were poor, Hearts were poor against us....Yes but that is at least in part due to how we played against them.

I don't think anybody thinks the first 68 minutes were great, we could easily have lost that game 1-0 had Doolan (I think) taken a better touch with a good chance in the 2nd half, our goal was indeed a gift. However these things happen, we were due a bit of fortune and credit to the players that they took advantage of it this week and for the last 20 minutes with some confidence back, started to show more of what they capable of.

Yes we are an average second tier side, however there is very little between any of the teams in the division, it is very competitive which it should be. As a team and as individuals we have shown flashes of quality, if we can find more consistency there is no reason why we can't be competitive at the other end of the table.

Enjoy the weekend, we won!

No team will run away with this league. Every game will be tough, at home or away. You can only play as well as the opposition lets you. I dont see us every scoring 5 or 6 against teams in this league. There is too much expectation on Fais. He will score goals for us, but hopefully others will too so that we get hoals from different positions on the park. We have a good squad. We will improve on last years league position.

Last 15 yes. Rest no. But nowhere near as bad as you think.

Passing ?
As above.

Set pieces ?
No. Needs work.

Link up play ?
Will improve with a settled team.

1st touch ?
Sometimes aye, sometimes naw.

If that pleases you that's fine , but most of us can face up to the fact .

Dont say most of us when you mean you and a few greetin faced fantasy managers.

We are not playing well enough to be realistic challengers this season .

We weren't in a few games. We have improved and we got through a difficult nervy game and took 3 point against a side that just got relegated and have players who know how to defend.

We are 3 points from 4th. That's a fact.
It might not suit your agenda though.

Yes we played one more but todays results won't make much difference and we have 2 very winnable games coming up and we are improving.

I didn't say we were good or I was completely satisfied with the performance. I pointed out that we are play off challengers.
What you dont seem to get is the teams we are competing with are not any better than us. This is the standard of Scottish Championship football.

It was made worse today because both sides could not afford to lose and were very nervy.
I hope now we got a win we can keep improving. The last 15 showed what a boost in confidence can do so as a fan, why not contribute to that rather than relentlessly self harming.

It's what folk with a negative mindset often come away with. I don't think they have "an agenda" as such. They probably don't even realise they're doing it. Happens all the time in every walk of life, Eck.

Didn't Andy Murray recently comment that when he wins he's British but when he loses he's Scottish?

The game wasn’t a classic by any means but a clean sheet & 3 points will do just nicely. Onwards & upwards, a bit more positivity wouldn’t be a bad thing either

Your point is?

Please don't confuse realistic criticism about our team overall performance with moaning.

But I know you will, because you need to say something, if anyone dares to be realistic about how crap our last two games have been.

I know you would like this forum to just be filled with praise and applause for the team but maybe you might want to take a poll on how many of our fans have been happy with the PT game, aside form getting three points.

Like I say. Very difficult to look good when you are competing with a very similar opponent. Add the pressure from two teams seen to be underachieving and desperate not to lose.
Doesn't make for prime time viewing.

To make a difference they need courage and confidence. Good support helps that. Check the last 15 when we got behind them after the lucky goal took the edge off a bit.

There are people in life who are never, ever happy. Not just about football. I try not to surround myself with people like that. They just bring you down.

Anyone who was there on Friday night or watched on TV knows we weren't great. Obviously we need to improve to get to where we want to be. But it doesn't happen overnight. I can see positives in Friday night in amongst all the negative even if some choose to dismiss them. Anyone who knows me would testify that I'm definitely not a "happy clapper" but I think we're heading in the right direction.

That's a good positive outlook.

I too always look for the best in any situation, but also am realistic in my assessment of football, or indeed any situation.

Without a healthy realistic way of looking at things, I have found complacency creeps in and improvement becomes more difficult.

This was true in my working life as it is now in my retired life.

Parrot, you have a story to cover everything that gets posted which is remotely critical of the Pars play.

Buck it we were poor to watch, that is my realistic opinion. maybe not yours, but equally valid as a spectator.

It's a forum, so just try to accept that everyone has an equal right to voice their thoughts.

I couldn't agree more, and that is precisely why I voice my thoughts.

Sorry, am I not supposed to be included in, "Everyone""?

Of course you are. Don't get in a flap though every time someone posts what you see as a negative criticism.

I don't think our wee forum with it's few hundred regulars has any real impact on the club or It's players.

I never boo, or suggest AJ goes after a bad result. What I can't be doing with are the honking performances, of which I've seen a few.

That said, my best game this season at East End, a loss to Hearts.

Two of my best games ever at East End, 5-4 defeat to Celtic and 6-5 defeat to Hibs the same season.
So I'm no glory Hunter.

Wouldn't be a Pars fan if I was lol.

I honestly don't remember getting in a flap at all. I just give my opinion on what people say, if I have one.

Funnily enough, I have not disagreed at any time regarding the underwhelming performances we were witnessing a few weeks ago.

I have responded when I thought it went too far though.
