We had a few decent performers, but I think Martin edges it. The boy oozes class, doesn't put a foot wrong

Surely the boy who served the soup deserves a mention miserablemach1?

Durnan Martin Ryan in that order.

Jesus wept. Robinson had a save and a great save last minute. Partick hardly did enough for our keeper to be MOM.

Only 2 players. Mulrany and Durnan.

Anyone who thinks Louis Longridge should be MOM needs their account shut down.

Thought we looked nervous all over the park with a few exceptions. I'd go for Durnan then Robinson then Martin. Thought both the Longridges were murder tonight. Someone needs to tell Vincent that he's allowed to shoot when the opportunity presents itself.

The soup was actually served by a girl and as for being miserable, well I came in quite happy, but by half time, I just wondered if any of the players had met each other before.

It was that bad, but I did predict a draw or a one goal win for us, so shouldn't complain really.

Thought Martin and Vincent did well. Although Durnan put in one good block, I still think the central defence looked very shaky and both he and Ashcroft were a bit all over the place. Durnan was the better of the two, but man of the match? Not for me.

Durnan from what I saw. I've gave him some stick but he was really solid tonight. Ashcroft really needs a boot up the erse though, far too casual. Night and day from last season.

Martin for me. Big difference having that calm approach in midfield. I do think Vincent will get found out tho, and when beadling is fully fit get him in there with Martin.

Durnan has one of his better games for us. There are glimpses of Fais and Ryan starting to click. Louis Longridge continues to frustrate. He must have the highest percentage of possession losses in the team.

Overall though, it was a vitally needed win, and well done AJ for not subbing anyone, and using the one sub well by dropping to a 4-4-1-1.

Personally didn't think much of Martin. Kept possession, which made him better than half the team, but was a bit too slow and deliberate for me.

Thought Craigen has another good game out of position, so I'd go for him just ahead of Durnan.

Vincent for me, thought Durnan and Connolly played well. Martin passed the ball well and is always communicating but I thought he was average 2nd half.
How louis Longridge and Faiss lasted another 90mins is beyond me. Both were poor.

That's what Martin does. He keeps possession of the ball. Doesn't do anything fancy, but keeps the ball moving. We've been screaming out for someone like that this season as Vincent and Thomson just run around a lot. We needed a steady player in the middle who will just pass the ball and retain possession

Vincent for me with his second half performance stole the ball of opposition many times including the one that set up the cross for our goal. Overall a fairly mediocre performance but the 3 points may give the team some badly needed confidence.

According to Graham Spiers in his recent Times column Martin is “ another one of Levein’s dud signings, now shipped out to Dunfermline”
He looks better than that, but instead of scurrying about he could maybe conserve his energy to play closer behind the strikers. Seems capable of threading accurate passes through to the danger area.

One of my jambo colleagues described him as a lazy player. From what I saw last night he's not a box to box dynamo but I'd argue that every team needs a calm head in the middle of the park that does what he does.

Have heard alternating views on Martin from Hearts fans, some good, some bad.

Apart from corners, I thought he was pretty much middle of the road.

Time yet to see how he develops with the rest of the team.

Watching the game back the difference with Martin is he tries to find a forward pass in difficult situations while our usual Midfielders would pass side or backwards. Doesn't seem special when at the game but always tries to keep the game going once his team mates sussed out how to play with him. Going to be a big player for us

Personally I would make Vincent the captain. On Friday he got stuck in all over the pitch, plus with him being in midfield he is in areas close to all of the players most of the time. It would allow Ashcroft to concentrate on defending.

"I thought both central midfielders were good but for me, Vincent stood out ...it's all about opinions eh! 😉"

That's far too reasonable response for .net. I don't even have the heart to say that you should try rugby league instead.

Moving the debate on a bit, my only concern with Martin would be whether he'll be effective in a 2 man centre midfield when we're away from home and have less possession. Last time we played at Falkirk, Beadling and Craigen hassled the $h1t out of them - ably assisted by McManus - and they never got a foothold in the game until the latter stages.

Given that AJ will play an unchanged side, I'm not sure that Vincent, Martin and Fais will be as equipped to do the same. Mind you, it's two very different sides and maybe Martin will control the game with his range of passing.

Does Vincent get a game when Beadling is back fit? I am of the opinion that Beadling is probably our best player and the early signs from Martin makes me think it may be a Beadling & Martin partnership in the middle?

Vincent put in a decent shift last time out, so Beadling will likely have to wait for his chance to impress.

Beadling gets better every game that he misses.

Having said that, I'm a big fan. He's been on the bench for the last couple of games, so is obviously fit, but it would be a big call to pitch him straight in the starting XI for the derby. Pretty certain it won't happen though - unless they went 3 at the back, put him alongside Durnan and Ashcroft, moved Williamson back to RWB and Craigen in to the midfield 3 to assist Vincent and Martin.

AJ won't change from a back 4 that has barely lost a goal and drop the goal scorer from Friday though.
