 France v Germany

Another decent game in prospect tonight. I have to say I'm coming round to this Nation's League, even if it is a bit complicated to understand.

Not a great fan of either country, but I can't see past a home win, which could see the 2014 WC winners relegated to the second tier of this new tournament.

Well, well. Write off the Germans at your peril! A really good game to watch with both teams breaking forward really quickly whenever the chance arose, which was quite often as there were loads of misplaced passes.

Germany were very unlucky not to get at least a draw. I thought both penalties awarded were a nonsense never mind soft.

This Nations League gets my vote. I hope it's here to stay. I'd like to see it used for the WC qualifiers too, if possible. No more Spain 11 Malta 0, or Germany 9 San Marino 0.

GG, it's my understanding, and I might be wrong, that there is still going to be a regular qualifying campaign for the european championships. The wee teams and Scotland will still got their humpings.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd

Yeah, I think you're right but maybe if this Nation's League format catches on, FIFA will allow UEFA to use it for the WC.

You are right TOWK, and Nations League performances provide the pots for these regular qualifiers. That's why it's important we top our group - to ensure we're in the third pot for the qualifiers. I can't see UEFA or FIFA wanting to use the Nations League for World Cup qualifying though. For one thing, there are a lot less spaces to go round for the European nations - so if we just say that the top League gets the WC spaces then three quarters of the European nations can't qualify right at the start of the process, and if we use the winners of each league then you'd have weaker countries qualifying at the expense of bigger nations with huge TV markets. On top of that, regular qualifying campaigns are big money spinners for both UEFA and the national associations through TV money and ticket sales.
