Track record of making teams comptetive on small budgets. Demonstrated ability and tactical awareness to change a game, which was quite clearly demonstrated with Morton. Quite confident he could achieve more with this squad than AJ.

Jim Duffy has a 100% success rate at failing to get teams promoted from this division. Every team he's managed that's had a bigger budget than us he also has a 100% failure rate at. He took Dundee down twice and then couldnt get them promoted then he was ultimate removed by Hibs as he was also in the process of taking them down too.

He somehow managed to get manager of the year for having a season where he had Morton pretty much where they should be which is a decent tier 2 side in Scotland. He was then sacked by them for not being very good.

As John Terry and Frank Lampard have spoken very highly of his coaching capabilities I wouldn't object if he got brought in as coach (a role I doubt he'd take) but he shouldn't be let anywhere near the managers position.

On top of the obvious failures to achieve his targets his team are brutal to watch but that's subjective and just my opinion.

Lives in weegieland. Need an east coast manager.

If AJ gets punted, then the craw gets the job. Not necessarily who I would pick but rest assured he will be our next manger.....maybe in place sooner than we think....;

Duffy's Morton won none of their last 11 games in 2016/17.

They won two of their last 11 games in 2017/18 (at home to Brechin and Dumbarton).

Let that sink in and ask yourself how you'd react if he did the same with the Pars.

need a guy who knows how to manage a football.

just need 100 people to reach the target !!

I've changed my mind. He's that much of a master tactician he's currently lulling the division into a false sense of security before doing a St Mirren and romping the league.

Our chairman and board have some serious questions to answer missing this one.

So, the foaming at the mouth AJ out crew who slag those who take the practicalities into account as "club apoligists" come up with Jim Duffy as the desired replacement.
A manager who has pretty much written the championship failure handbook.

Jim Duffy is the outstanding coach of this generation.

He would have reacted appropriately to the changes of formation, tactics and personnel by Jim Goodwin on Saturday.

Why do fans apply different standards when assessing other teams' managers from those they apply when assessing our own? I admire Jim Duffy's honesty when he talks about the game but his managerial career has been somewhat chequered as is the case with quite a few of those with whom AJ is sometimes unfavourably compared.

'I admire Jim Duffy's honesty when he talks about the game'

I actually think that's the main reason he gets linked with jobs. He comes across extremely well in his interviews and has been spoken of very highly by Chelsea staff and players as a coach but his management record is really pretty bad.

Why? He's done nothing that AJ hasn't done in a much shorter career. In fact every team he's managed on a bigger budget than us he's relegated or been fired before the club was relegated. He took a Hibs side that had copped a lot of flack from their own support for being too middle of the road; down (pretty much) - McLeish improved them immediately but couldn't keep them up but then took them straight back up.

AJ improved Killie in his time as manager and only left because of a dispute with the board over selling Muirhead.

AJ has two 3rd tier promotions, Jim Duffy has one. There is nothing in Duffy's history that says he's better than AJ. Nothing.

I have a mate who is in the know all at Morton and helps behind the scenes
And he said for all the money he was given he didn't get them the success they wanted
And He said you think the grass is greener if you got him but he reckons he won't take us any further than AJ is doing at the moment
He reminded me of all the failures Duffy has had over the years
So It's No Thank You For Duffy keep him in his new post at Dumbarton

Nope.

P13
Pars 3
Draws 2
Morton 8

Four of those losses were Jefferies/Potter in 14-15 so still better than AJ head to head.

Not that I would want him as pars manager.

Petrie's done a tremendous job.He took over Montrose in December 2016 with them at the bottom of League 2.In the space of his first 5 months he took them into 4th and the play-offs where they lost out to Peterhead. In his first full season he won the league losing only 5 out of 36 games and finished over 20 points clear of 3rd place.Their crowds went from 5th largest in the division to the largest over those two seasons.Prior to him joining Montrose they had been in the bottom league for 22 years finishing bottom on several occasions. The year before he took over they nearly lost league status beating Brora Rangers 3-2 on aggregate. Brora had won the first leg and it was all square in the 2nd leg when Brora went down to 10 in the 49th minute.2 goals in the last 15 minutes saved them.

Having gone up they were probably relegation favourites this year but with 16 games left they are 2 points off the promotion play-offs. They have the 3rd highest average attendance in that division now with only Raith and Arbroath higher. Their own average attendance has doubled in 2 years. They are top of the form table with just 2 defeats in their last 12 games. It would be remarkable if he took them to back to back promotions although I appreciate that's still a distance off.Should he wish a full-time job it's only a matter of time before someone takes a chance on him.

Montrose are only 9 places below us in the league standings so it's not as if the jump is colossal.

This argument reminds me of the Catholic Church discussing the next Pope when there is no vacancy.

I am very grateful for the turn around AJ has achieved since May 2015 when we were 7th in League 1.

My question is : can this eminently pleasant and approachable Manager take us any further?

If you watch Jim Duffy,Jim Goodwin,Stevie Clark,Jack Ross et al they would change formation, tactics, personnel at half time.AJ seems incapable of that.

To read Fans arguing that Jim Duffy had not repeatedly defeated the Pars beggared belief!!

I would love to be proved wrong ,and for the Pars to win the next three crucial games ,but I am not filled with confidence.

A huge number of Pars Supporters are going to Starks Park so he had better deliver.

Beating AJ in head to heads isn't the goal for the "Next Manager" though is it.
There is no point parting company with AJ to appoint someone who has shown he can do no better in the league.
He may have beaten AJ more often as we developed the team but we finished above them and apparently the league table doesn't lie. Unless it suits your agenda of course.

Duffy would perform similarly to where we are now. No point changing with all the expense unless there is a significant improvement in the replacement.
Duffy would just get what AJ is getting now.

If you conceded that Jim Duffy was tactically astute you would have to conclude that there were certain other aspects of football management in which he was deficient when you consider his overall record.

Thanks to Perkins for pointing out that the head-to-head record between JD and AJ at Morton/DA is W4 D2 L3 in JD's favour. It's closer than Sliema Par seems to think.
