 Who is available?
Topic Originator: renegade master
Date:   Sat 27 Oct 17:54

Ok hypothetical at this exact moment and yes with compensation possible to current incumbent, so paying further compensation to a contracted manager unlikely.

Who is left available to come and bail us out and get this team firing on all cylinders?

For me I think Billy Dodds could be a starter for 10!

Give Crawford a few games?

I’d even give cindy Crawford a few games given the crap that’s on show.

Yogi Hughes hahaha. Would genuinely rather give it to leishman until the end of the season than have that clown anywhere near our club.

Managed over 500 games moslty in top flight and won more than lost.

Yogi won the cup and finished 3rd with Inverness in SPL. Inverness!!

Falkirk - took them up to SPL and kept them in it for 4 years.

Where are these teams post Hughes?

Only blot is Raith. Took over for 8 weeks and had no window to bring new players.

One thing almost for sure is we won’t be paying a club to take their manager from them so reduces the pool to chose from.

Alan Archibald could be a shout. Got Partick promoted and took them to their highest ever position in top flight. Has to be bared in mind that he made the team that’s struggling this season though.

Tam Courts. A real outside the box one this but hey, stranger things have happened. We took Leish from Kelty many moons ago.

Owen Coyle. Knows the club but has been honking at his past few jobs.

Likes of Mark McGhee and Billy Reid could also be options

We love Dunfermline We do!

Hughes, Stubbs and Dodds are abysmal suggestions. There aren't many managers around that I can think of right off the bat who could come in and make a big difference to the players we have, which itself might well keep Johnston at the club. Young is a better suggestion, there's also bound to be a few English of foreign managers who could come in (Lee Clark maybe? Wasn't fantastic at Killie mind you) but it's a risk either way.

Falkirk being woeful will keep AJ and co in a job. We will pump them again in a couple of weeks and things will look brighter. Might get interesting if they have a clear out in January though.

We missed the boat with Neilson. Not much else out there. Billy Reid or Darren Young maybe?

Someone has seriously said John Hughes? ****** wild. Would rather have Terry Butcher than him.

Ideally though invite candidates, give Crawford a couple of games and see how he does. See who applies, if Crawford does well and shows up well in the interviews then give it to him.

We're doing this week lates though, missed out on Neilson and McIntyre

Some of the names being mentioned fill me with terror. Also, Billy Reid has been an assistant manager for a while now and seems happy doing so. He’ll not leave Swansea to manage us. Billy Davies played for us (not that it matters) he’d maybe be interested? I honestly can’t think of anyone else who’s Scottish that would be interested apart from Ian McCall. So we should look elsewhere.

It's not uncommon for teams nowadays for clubs to put an experienced player in charge. Like we did with MacIntyre . So obvious candidate is Sean Murdoch with Higgy as assistant. If Joe was here bet a few folk would suggest it after all.

Danny Lennon would fit the bill; price range, experience with similar sized club(s), previous success at this level.

No issue with Hughes. One of the best Falkirk teams i can remember, seems pretty no nonsense, teams always super fit, decent ethos in the way he sets out to play. Sort of guy you want to play for - basing that on a few folk i know who played under him - that 'interview' aside :-)

That "interview" from Hughes was not a reflection on him more a reflection of the utter shambles that was going on in that team when he took over. Think our team around the end of Kenny's tenure and you're along the right lines. There were lots of little power struggles and cliques at the Rovers at that time and there really wasn't alot he could do. I am not saying I would necessarily want him but I wouldn't form my opinion of him (or any manager) on that. Look at his record as a manager.

"Before that Raith were finished anyway."

Not so. As late as the second or third last game of the season Raith were actually 8th. Even when 8th he said he was aiming for the play offs. They then failed to beat one of the worst teams to get to a play off final (Brechin, who went on to record not one single win the following season).

I think all managers with 500+ games in management will have blemishes on their record. But Kelty Par, What about his four years at Falkirk and his 3 years at Inveness winning the Scottish manager of the year award to name one of his many successes there. Judged on at 8 week spell at a sinking ship rather than 14 years of management experience.

James Mcdonaugh. Edinburgh City manger. 12 wins out of 12. Totally turned the club around after their first season in the senior league. He was assistant at F@@@@@K a season back.

Young. Hungry. He’s not part of the Scottish Football manager mafia.

He was hugley sucseful during his stint at Easter Road as their 20’s manager. I know for a fact when John Potter left EEP he personally recommended JM to replace him.

Maybe one for the future but defiantly one to keep an eye on.

John Hughes was also at the QOS game. He’s sniffing around as he knows how good a team we COULD (say should?) be.

Happy to accept Raith was a blip, but he also had time at Livingston too.

Reality is we either go for someone untested or we accept whoever comes in will have a black mark on their copybook.

Any manager who inherits this team has his work cut out and clearly we can't give a new manager a budget partly through a season while paying off the present one should he not resign.

So, who could do a job?
I think Yogi is a high risk as he's like Butcher.
Either the players take to him or they dont due to his no nonsense approach.
If they do, then brilliant but I'd worry our present dressing room wouldn't.

If I can offer some sympathy to AJ it is that the squad from last season that finished on a great run of form and three of our best players left for more cash.

I still think he was really badly wrong letting Jojo go as a talisman can be a great thing in any team and a good dressing room as any player will tell you is the key to success.

Ian McCall is a good shout and at any other time he would jump at the Pars job but right now?
I very much doubt it.

If you only turn up to moan then do it elsewhere

We have decent squad albeit a lack of width, a good manager can turn this around.
AJ has lost the dressing room and has so for along time, our form at the end of last season was papering over the cracks.

I’ve said this before but I reckon McCall has always had a desire to come back to the club as a manager one day. I know Ayr are currently doing better than us but if he was offered the chance to come here then he’d struggle to say no. I doubt he’ll get another chance. It would also be probably the only time he’d be as popular a choice as he hasn’t been amazing anywhere else.

I would like Ian McCall to join us, but the timing is lousy. Would you leave a team that is sitting in second place with a winning mentality for a mediocre side that has half your team's points?

I would be okay with Yogi. I think our dressing room needs a "Rovers Rant" to be quite frank. He won't take any nonsense, that's for sure.

I don't care who it is.......John Hughes.......crawford but someone with the nuts to get them sorted and tell them as it is. It's not all aj and Sandys fault the players are not pulling either and the sooner they know it the better. But they should be man enough to stand in front of them tell them like it is or they will play reserve football till there contract ends and if they don't like it buck up or move on

Darren young with courts as assistant ? I’d be all over that but no doubt we’ll end up with some dinosaur that’s way past it

Reckon Stevie Crawford might get the opportunity. Heard he knows his stuff and has impressed since coming in as a coach.

I'm not against Crawford and he might be doing a grand job, but it is not reflected in the reserve team results.

I'd rather have some experience in to steady the ship, who would not be too quiet after crap performances like yesterday's.
Steve alongside, learning and gaining all round managerial experience would be great.

Player morale is so low it will have a knock on effect on the full team including the reserves as it has been made up with some regular first team players

I canny see Crawford being much of a disciplinarian. He’s hardly an intimidating lad is he? Mind you, the days of being able to roar in a players face to motivate them are long gone. Fitba players nowadays are a bunch of soft lads. They need to be constantly told they’re amazing or they turn into quivering wrecks. Such sensitive wee laddies.

Its a good job, there will be a lot of interest in it.
Punt AJ and see who applies, there will be some decent candidates.

Horses for courses.

Some players can be shouted at and they respond, others crumble.
So the smart manager knows how to deal with each case individually.

Sadly, there aren't too many like that. Human nature I suppose.

Back in my day before the shin pads and goalie gloves it was real man's game socks round the ankles and get tore in....players are too soft These days... if it hurt you got up and got in with it...

Just on the board.....football is more of a business these days surely it's up to the board to see where the failings are and act accordingly and if it mean punt aj and clark to the other end of halbeath then so be it

Peter Houston's record with Falkirk:

14/15: 5th & Scottish Cup Runners-up
15/16: 2nd, finishing above Hibs, Lost in Play-off final
16/17: 2nd, finishing above Dundee Utd, Lost in Play-off semi-final

Just saying...

This is like folk discussing the nomination for the next Pope when the present one is still alive.(Mind you Pope Benedict is.Ed).

I wrote, last week, that this current situation distresses me.

In the last fifty years, AJ is one of the most likeable and approachable Managers we have ever had.Upsides with big Jim,Bert and Harry. He is supported by a transparent Board.

This situation, however, cannot go on.Six points from Inverness,Alloa and Falkirk are the bare minimum acceptable.

Peter Houston,or Jim Duffy or John Hughes would, otherwise, need to be approached. Our Home Support has haemorrhaged 17% and that is what will be the telling factor.

Said before ( and was shot down) Crawford is a shoe in for the short term ... and then who knows.

Crawford must have been given some kind of incentive to stay...

Darren Young and Crawford?

Young has East Fife punching above their weight and did an excellent job at Albion.

Steve Aitken used to be top name mentioned after Stranraer and start at Dumbarton but wont get a mention now.

I'd rather we looked at the future or a bit out of the box rather than guys that have been around the block with 3/4/5 different clubs.

Think if we do get rid of AJ, it'll not be until after the Falkirk game. I've got a feeling that a result against ICT, Alloa or Falkirk will see him safe until the January Window.
That being said, I think Crawford will get it until the end of the season.
I like the look of Darren Young or James McDonaugh. Would like a younger, up and coming manager but that's just my opinion.
