I love Faiss but I'm struggling to see how anyone still has him starting in the team.

what sierra says but i don't think higgy's ready .might be worth putting fais there for his pace to see if he can link with williamson because he isn't doing it as the target man.

Sierra, funny I've been having a think about what formation best suits our better players and I keep coming back to a 4-3-3

There's no doubt in my mind that Johnston recruited in the summer to play a 3-5-2, but the defensive shambles meant he had to abandon that and go to a more solid back 4 which until Durnan got injured seemed to work. The issue with that meant going to a rigid 4 in midfield with 2 central midfielders, now AJ being the cautious management type likes 2 defensive minded players in the middle so players that were excelling in the 3-5-2 and the space it allowed them (L Longridge in particular) are now stuck out on the wing which is not their best position hence the drop in his performance. Also having a combination of 2 from Vincent/Craigen/Beadling means a lack of creativity in the middle of the park which means mainly sideways passes or back, a lack of pace to split the opposition open and no-one really playing between the lines, its slow slow sideways, or slow slow backwards and a punt up the parl from the back to El Back (????!!!).

Bringing in M Martin made a difference, he was keen to receive the ball on the half turn and look to play clever passes forward but for whatever reason he was dropped against Utd.

So for me the formation that gives the best of both worlds would be a 4-3-3, solid base at the back with a bit of protection from a holding midfielder (Beadling, not Vincent, please not Vincent), allowing Martin to get on the ball and Longridge a bit of freedom to get forward and occupy the pockets of space in front of their back 4, almost a number 10 role.

Team as follows:

Robinson

Craigen
Devine
Ashcroft
J Longridge

Beadling
Martin
L Longridge

Hippolyte (left)
Muirhead/Ryan/Keena (central)
Higgy if fit, Faissal if not (right)

For me I see Faissal as a wider forward anyway, give him the ball where he can run at defenders, that's what he's good at, maybe cutting in from a wider area? His game is definitely NOT winning the ball in the air or playing with his back to goal.

My thoughts for what they're worth.

Struggling to find anyone to put on the wings from our squad, whoever goes in there will be someone who hasn't contributed anything this season.

Genuinely don't understand why anyone would have either Faissal or Louis longridge in the team on current form. Guess everyone sees things differently

Does anyone know if it is just fitness that's keeping Muirhead out? I know he's had a few reserve games but there must be something way off with his fitness is AJ isn't even bringing him off the bench. The first couple of games he played for us, he was way off the pace. Then he was played wide at BW in the cup?

Away from home against a decent side. We are out of form.

A point would be good therefore set up accordingly

4-2-3-1 with Craigen back to full back to give some solidity.

Holding. Any two from Martin, Vincent and Beadling.

Perm any three from Fais. Longridge, Higgy, Thomson and Connolly

Lone striker - Muirhead or Keena.. surely one can replace the other, if tiring ?

If both are fit, then Higgy and Williamson should start. A proven threat down the right that can open most defences. Who will get on the other end of the crosses is anybody's guess.

At present Craigan is a better defender and Williamson is better at bringing the ball forward. Providing he gets protection from the referee with his speed he can run circles past most opposition players.

People putting Vincent and Martin together in midfield are clueless

We are Dunfermline, we're on our way back!

I will be very disappointed if either Vincent or L Longbidge start tonight after Saturday's performance.

I'd play Beadling and Martin with one other in midfield, Higgy ahead of Williamson and one up top.

Try and set up as solid as possible and play the players with most ability and who actually want the ball. How Martin sits out the whole game on Saturday when we couldn't string two passes together is beyond me.

Also, I wouldn't play Vincent tonight but he's a completely different player to Martin. In fact, Martin is a completely different player to anyone in the squad.

I’d have Beadling playing ahead of Thompson but he’s unlikely to be able to play two games so close together. If Higgy was fit I’d have him on the right and try L Longridge left.

Got to try something new up top. Nothing so far has worked. AJ surely gotta do something to try and get goals. Those two can’t be any worse than Faiss....

Who’s on the right of that midfield four? Or is it 4-3-1-2 with three centre midfielders and L Longridge behind the strikers?

If we are going to persist with these long balls from the back, he HAS to start muirhead.. he’s the only striker who will get anywhere near them. Muirhead to hold the ball up and bring Faissal into play would work, little and large upfront is tried and tested. Williamson has the energy and pace to get up and down that line, he needs cover in behind him though.
