''We can confirm that midfielder Joe Cardle has left AFC Fylde by mutual consent.

Cardle joined the club during the summer and scored two goals in 17 competitive appearances with his last against Leyton Orient on Saturday.

Manager Dave Challinor said:

‘Joe has found the last month really difficult from an ‘off-field’ perspective with his personal circumstances as his wife and young family still live up in Scotland. Their plan was to relocate but this, unfortunately, hasn’t materialised.’

‘I had a good chat with him and as a club, we have reluctantly agreed to go our separate ways to allow him to move back North of the border to be with his family.’

‘He goes with our best wishes and a personal thanks from myself and all of the squad. He’ll be missed by everyone but it’s important he does what is best for him at this time.’

Everyone at AFC Fylde wishes Joe Cardle all the very best as he moves on from the club.''

Falkirk would make more sense for him, he'd be a first team starter, near the house etc.

I'd rather have him here than Hyppolyte and Longridge and probably Connolly aswell tbf. However we have signed those players and on top of Higginbotham then 5 wingers is just too much, if we were to play one of them behind the striker there would be room... But unless one of them gets freed I don't see the space.

You can't leave a club outwith a transfer window and play for another one. You have to wait til the window opens before you can register with another club. You can only sign outwith a window if you were out of contract before the previous window closes. Cardle wasn't so he'll be unable to play until January.

Scott Robinson signed for us as an amateur at the end of our L1 promotion campaign after he left Hearts, but, that's the only one I can think of in recent years off the top of my head.

If something can be worked out then why not. Might offload one or two in January anyway and I am sure he can tide himself over financially for a month or two.
It would mean AJ swallowing his pride and admitting a mistake.

There was someone who played for both Dundee and us a few years ago as well.

"^^ unless he signs as an amateur which gets around that.

Pretty sure that's only in League One and below although that loophole may have been closed since there seemed to be an issue with Dylan Mackin signing for Stirling Albion.

"There was someone who played for both Dundee and us a few years ago as well."

Jake Hyde. Played for Dundee as a "Trialist" for 3 games having been signed (Aye, right) by Lochee Utd Juniors. After that he played as a Trialist for us then we signed him til the end of the season. We could do that as he was coming from the Juniors having been released prior to the previous window by his last Senior Club. Trialiat are now no longer allowed in the League (think that's all Leagues but it's certai my the case in the Championship).

Hudza, don't know if I've given you an upvote or a down but it seems I clicked on something and now it says "done"... If it was the latter then apologies, I don't use them normally but know some folk do.

Imagine if he turned up at EEP on Saturday and scored against us!

Didn't disagree with the manager moving him on in the summer as you've always got to be looking to improve and Joe blew hot and cold. However from what I've seen Connolly is a poor mans Cardle as he hasn't really got past lukewarm.

1981par: I have just choked on my cornflakes reading that "we have a better player on the left".

Last season ,at this juncture, we had 13 Home points compared to 4 now.We had 16 goals, with the Joe Cardle inspired team ,compared to our current tally of just 2.

The euphoria which greeted the return of FEB would be as nothing compared to the boost the return of Super Joe would give us.

can't believe we are at the stage of almost pleading to re-sign someone who was a bit part player in our best form of last season.

This forum really does go weak at the knees and wet in the knickers when some ex players are mentioned.

On Hyde, he "signed" with lochee in order to get his registration listed at the SFA allowing him to play as a trialist. Couldn't play as trialist or was hold up in him being able to play trial games as his registration was held by english FA>

AJ didn’t offer Cardle a contract, he offered Aird one and planned to make him the main man. So when Aird done the dirty it left AJ with egg on his face. I don’t think AJ will admit he got that wrong.

Exactly right. Dundee wanted to take him "on loan" from Lochee but they had a registration ban due to admin so could only play for 3 games as a Trialist. When those were up, we offered him a short term deal - he started the very next game, at Cowdenbeath and was on the bench up at Ross County (one of our fans went down to the bottom of the terracing when he was warming up and asked him "are we actually allowed to sign you?"). He was even namechecked (and I'm sure he was quite embarrassed by it all) when the PA announced each player individually after the Falkirk game when we were presented with the trophy.

Looking on their FB page (Flyde) fans very much disappointed that he has left. Joe is a pars man, we need that little boost the now..If terms are right I see no reason why a return can not be made happen. Wingers hardly setting the place on fire the now. I really wanted Aiden to be the man to replace Cardle but too lightweight and not enough goals for me. Much can be said for the whole team this season so far.

Strange set of fans we have, could honestly find a reason to moan if we won the league.

Everyone is comparing the best Cardle with the current teams level and undoubtedly Joe wins that comparison. However Cardle is 31 he’s had time out with injuries the last two seasons, shown very little after Christmas in both those seasons so much so he became a bench player. He isn’t going to produce his best anymore.

Don't forget that AJ let Joe go because he had passed his coaching badges and was a threat to the manager's position. There have been a lot of ridiculous conspiracy theories on here but that one's my favourite I think.

Yes but would appoint Stevie Crawford who’s done his A license 6 years before him? With his best mate out of work.

If ever there was a credible threat to AJ there it’s there. Certainly not Cardle

Could the people who think/post that bridges have been burnt, and AJ won’t admit if he got something wrong etc, please explain why they think/post this?

Thanks in advance.

See my post on the matter Stevie. He didn’t offer Joe a contract and offered Aird one instead. Joe wanted to stay Aird didn’t. Joe had already had a falling out with AJ the season before this and I think this was the final straw...bridges burnt.

Maybe AJ offered Aird a contract but didn't offer Joe one because he thought Aird would be a more productive player for us going forward. That seems to me the most obvious explanation rather than some conspiracy theory.

Where’s the conspiracy theory? It’s pretty obvious that was AJ’s reasoning behind it, it doesn’t change the fact AJ was looking a bit daft when Aird signed for United. I know if that was me in joe’s shoes I’d be reluctant to return unless AJ put his hands up, but that’s just me.

Joe at his best would be great for us, but he does show spells of inconsistency.

That said, very few if any, of our players show consistency over a season.

As for his age, was it 31? Stephen Dobbie is 36 in four weeks!

Was AJ supposed to say to Joe - 'I can't offer you a contract just now but let's see what happens with Fraser Aird'? As I've said often on here, AJ has to operate in the real world, not the fantasy football world.

From what I have heard that is exactly what AJ did.
