I wonder how N Ireland are feeling after giving Michael O'Neill a big pay rise to fend off interest from Scotland? I see they ended with no points and are relegated to Group C. Maybe we dodged a bullet there.

Didn't we earn £1m by winning our group?

Michael O'Neil hasn't become a bad manager over night. He's working with a limited pool of players and have really struggled for goals of late.

Watched their first group game against Bosnia-Herzegovina and couldn't believe they lost it.

Martin O'Neil on the other hand I'm not surprised about. Ireland have looked dreadful recently.

I'm no bigot but I sniggered when I heard this news too. They're terrible & I'm glad they are struggling.

Been on the cards for a while, as soon as that incident with Harry Arter and Keane became public the writing was on the wall.

I always quite liked O'Neill but get the impression that style and way he likes to set his teams up is maybe starting to become something of a bygone era, particularly at the top level, things have moved on a bit.

Martin O'Neill has always come across as very affable fellow to me so I can only assume that the dislike towards him from certain quarters has a more sinister origin. He is hated by some for the instrumental role he played in the death of Glasgow Rangers that's for sure.

Martin O'Neill did wonders at Leicester and did well at Celtic.

However in my opinion he has never left a club in better shape than he found it. Aging players on big wages always needed cleared out after he left.

Think wee eck got it spot on. We did dodge a bullet by failing to get him and it's far better to have Scottish personnel in charge of the national team. Sometimes it is very difficult to tell if bad results are are down to bad players. If a team plays above itself for a short time the manager is seen as a genius but in Michael O'neils case it looks like he just had a wee bit of luck.

That was my feeling, Paralex. I wasn't disappointed when we missed out on Michael O'Neill.

Football is so fickle. If not for a great save by McGregor Israel would have gotten a draw and we'd all be cursing McLeish and grumbling about how guff we are.

It's easy to pick on one incident in a football match and say it was a pivotal moment but sometimes the ball runs for you and sometimes it doesn't. It's what makes football such a great game.
