To take over as RoI manager after the 2020 euro campaign, Mick Mccarthy appointed until then (according to BBC). Didn't see that coming.

When O'Neill chucked it during the week, Kenny was about a 5/1 chance, his stock has obviously taken a rise.

Always had sympathy for Kenny and was disappointed at the time when he left. The players at that time were a disgrace.

Glad he's doing well and wish him all the best!

"Mick McCarthy will be unveiled as Republic of Ireland boss on Sunday but he will be replaced by Stephen Kenny after the Euro 2020 finals.

McCarthy has penned a two-year deal while Dundalk manager Kenny will take charge of the Republic's U21 side before moving up to the senior post"

He is clearly well thought of by some people.

I think had he been given a better chance at East End, we might have been in a better place than how it ended.

Hope he can handle the step up to the international scene.

He's clearly developed into a good manager and improved massively since his time at Dunfermline. Wish him all the best, that doesn't mean that us punting him wasn't the right thing to do at the time.

A lot of the absolute dross got new contracts in that summer if I remember right. Muirhead, Simmons, Owen Morrison, McManus plus we signed crap like Kevin Harper.
Kenny ultimately takes responsibility for that.

Awight Pat!

Correct.

Kenny admits he made mistakes here. Biggest mistake he made was showing loyalty to senior players where he really should have emptied the place when he had a chance. Ultimately he rewarded failure and it bit him on the backside.

As for it being out his hands with contracts being signed then if he was a man of principle then he should have walked.

He won’t be the first nor the last to have a bump on the road in his career.

IIRC the consensus amongst the support and Scottish football in general is that the squad that went down would absolutely skoosh division 1.

If you think what you're watching now are duds take a moment and remember Scott Muirhead if you will.

Regardless of what the anti Kenny fans think of his time here, the man himself will be past caring.
His subsequent successes and his recent international appointment are an indication of his capabilities.
Who knows, he might even be big enough to thank Dunfermline for being a springboard to his future success, after leading us to a cup final and into Europe.

I'm not crawling up anyone's "erchie".
Managers are judged on results and Stephen Kenny's results were horrific - some of the performances amongst the worst I've ever seen as a Dunfermline supporter.
He may have inherited an aging squad, but it was a squad which should have hosed that league.
He completely and utterly failed in his remit at the club.
It's bizarre though.
Some on here hail him as the second coming but have no time for Jim McIntyre - a guy on the other hand who led us to the title and some of our best days as supporters.
If people have allegations about the conduct of individual players dowing tools during Kenny's time at the club then I call them out - name names and state the facts as you believe to know them.
Otherwise it's malicious nonsense.

It was all brought up at the time, no need to go through it all again. I thought it was common knowledge majority of the players led Nipper were acting like prima donnas. Obviously not.

De Vries, Shields, Wilson, Bamba, Glass, O'Brien (Daquin 74), Mason, Muirhead, Hammill, McManus (Hamilton 84), McIntyre (Burchill 71). Subs Not Used: McKenzie, Woods, McCunnie, Young.

is the team from one of our best results/performances of the season. 2 loanees in that team.

For some players who "downed tools" and faked injury they certainly played a lot of games despite undermining the manager.

OK, I will name you one, Mark Burchill. I clearly remember being quite sickened at the time at his lack of effort and interest, then the first game after Kenny was sacked, he transformed himself back into a player again. Totally unprofessional.

Wouldn’t say any squad coming down should skoosh the championship. Has that ever happened? I can only think of hearts winning it comfortably. Every team that comes down struggles. Not getting pumped off Stirling Albion levels of struggling but still..

Burchill scored 6 goals in all competitions before Kenny was sacked (in a really poor team that were struggling for goals) and 7 in all competitions after Kenny was sacked (in a team that weren't exactly free scoring but were at least winning games). I remember the whole team struggling, but not players "not trying".

Squad down and squad up pretty incomparable with them.

replacing guys like Chic Charnley, Andy walker and Michael Renwick with Sauzee, latapy, Paul Hartley and having Tam Mcmanus and Kenny Miller starting to come through from Youth set up.
