 Damning Statistics
Topic Originator: Turps

Shamelessly stolen, I'd be interested to hear from the AJ supporters on this.

---------------------------------
Couple of stats for you all.

In terms of goals scored at home, this is the worst start the club have made in their entire history. We’ve never scored 2 or less in our first 7 home league games.

In terms of points accrued at home outside the top flight, this is the joint worst start the team has made in its entire history, tied with 1946/47 (assuming 3 points for a win). We’ve never had just 4 points (or equivalent for the times when it was just 2 points for a win, i.e. counting them as 3 points) from our first 7 home games when playing outside of the top league save for the start of the season 72 years ago.

If you count it the old way, i.e. 2 points for a win, then only 1946/47 is worse in terms of points gained at home after 7 games (we’d then go on to draw the next home game and win the rest, although it was a much reduced league) and only 26 games in total were played.

We’ve had worse starts at home in terms of points in the top flight, but only 4 times in our history.

Stats were taken from the excellent Pars Database.

Poor statistics indeed. Fortunately for us the league is decided on home and away form. I'm sure a few weeks ago someone pointed out that there had been more away wins than home wins in the Championship this season. I don't know if that's still the case but, if so, it's an interesting trend. The debate got no traction on here but I wonder if it's because away teams are more inclined to 'sit in' now and hit on the break as we have seen a few times at EEP.

That’ll all change this weekend. Pars will win this game and go on a run.

A little bit of research reveals that, of the 70 matches played to date in the Scottish Championship, 24 have been home wins, 25 away wins and 21 draws.

The away wins have probably been boosted by East end becoming a happy hunting ground ?

I fear today. The weather is colder and Home form is wretched.

We are ,clearly ,moving from anger/abuse/despair to resignation/ apathy/ ambivalence.

The latter are far more of a threat. The Gate will be interesting.

Of the four friends who come to a match with me;three are washing their hair. All have Seasons so they are committed.

We have one huge advantage today.Brilliant Coach Jim Duffy has gone.

PS Yes,I have got friends!!

Andy Ryan's fault for missing that chance against Falkirk. Worst striker in our history

It's common knowledge that Lionel Messi kept a photo of Hamish French by his bedside as inspiration every morning!

I think you have to take a holistic approach rather than just look at home form. Its not good obviously and the home form needs to be worked on. There are many other factors to consider when drawing comparisons such as finances, level of competition in the league, injuries etc. The chairman eluded to it in his statement, for me ots about the overall year on year improvement. That may not always be matched by performances on the park but key for me is a strong foundation on which to build for the future. I think there difficult years ahead for the sport with falling gates etc. So forward planning is essential.

I don't know what has happened to Ryan, but when he arrived he would have scored that chance with ease. Perhaps his confidence is at rock bottom.

I think lost confidence is affecting them all.

The poor form is making a lot of the fans apathetic and maybe that's a factor for the players as well.

We need a few wins to lift the heads on and off the pitch, because momentum works in both directions upwards and downwards.

Re Andy Ryan being worst striker included pars history, I give you Georgi Hristov, Jesper Christiansen and Bartosz Tarachulski. Did any of them ever score?

Jamie Mole is probably up there with the worst 'Strikers' I have ever seen. Still remember the teams horror show against Falkirk at Hampden

Stats look a bit better after today.

If we get a settled team with some confidence and the fans behind them, anything is possible.
