 Celtic v Aberdeen

Celtic winning another competition got me thinking about who would have been the captain of any club who has won the most silverware in Scottish football. Scott Brown must have won his fair share.

I'd imagine Billy McNeil or Richard Gough would have a shot as well.

Yes, McNeill captained celtic during their 9 in a row run and won 13 domestic cups during that time as well according to his wiki page. Brown will have a bit to go I'd imagine.

Ian Ferguson must be up there. Sure he was 'club captain' even when not always a first pick would have been on the bench at worst in the big cup games and hit the threshold of minimum appearences in league.

I thought Richard Gough captained the club when he and Fergie were playing but I might be wrong.

Billy McNeill has won more major trophies as a player, all with the same club.

9 x league titles, 7 x scottish cup wins, 6 x league cup wins plus the European Cup.

He captained the club when they beat us in the 1965 scottish cup final - and I don't think he stepped down from that role until he retired.

The dominance of Celtic at that time looks unlikely to ever be surpassed and for a single captain. Incredible numbers. Always have been aware of Celtic’s dominance at that time but it is only when it is written in terms of silverware that it shows the current batch have some way to go.
