 What is Puel doing?

Makes seven changes last night against an understrength City side and lose out on penalties?
He did the same last year. Can't understand his thinking. They are in no danger of going down.
Great chance to get to a semi-final and potentially draw Burton and get to a final.
Would that not have been a fitting tribute to their late owner?

The quality of penalties was a total joke!

City were there for the taking last night. A full strength Leicester side would probably have put them away in regulation time.

I don't get the logic either. I know the league is so important but as you say, when there's no risk of going down and it's going to be a struggle getting 3 points away at Chelsea any way at the weekend; why not go for the cup?

And all the penalties that missed were honking as RM says.

Their next 2 games are Chelsea and Man City, they’re likely to get 0 points anyway. Absolute madness to throw away that chance of a semi final/final

Didn't they win both these games? Maybe he knew what he was doing after all.

Trophies mean less than coming 8th or 16th.

That's why that league is a joke.

A bit of a poisoned chalice there now after their league win? I heard Puel getting stick the other week from their fans but they are 7th in the league behind the 'big 6'with some great results recently-a few years ago that would have been some achievement for Leicester.

If I was a fan I wouldn't be happy with his cup policy though. They've proved recently they can beat anyone on their day so why not go for some silverware? I bet the players left out would rather have played then be 'rested'.

It's not just about resting players though it's about protecting them. If Puel had worked out that Newport were a bunch of hatchet men would you risk sending out your best players and potentially losing them for the season?

Also after the hectic Christmas fixture list many of the 1st team could be fatigued and carrying niggles and strains so resting them being the correct idea.

Bringing in your 2nd string premier team should have easily been able to undo Newport on paper and shots and possession on paper said the same, the joy of the FA Cup is that every year a few clubs get lucky and write a chapter in their history.

Players are over protected now IMO, every league game you now have 7 subs you can utilise, pitches are generally in better condition, they probably have a squad size of 30+, by all means make a change or two but changing almost the whole team and you are asking for trouble. Start your big hitters and bring them off if and when you have a lead.It was the only chance Leicester had remaining of winning a trophy this year. The manager was already under pressure and has built a rod for his own back. You would think he would've learned his lesson from the other cup. He has played 2 depleted teams and exited both, you would think once bitten twice shy.Although Leicester had plenty chances Newport could also have scored more and the final shots on target was 8-5 which isn't a wide gulf.

As elvis lives points out finishing 8th means more than winning a trophy to everybody except fans and players which is sad.

I see Puel is now 13/8 favourite to be next PL manager sacked-nice of him to rest the players to benefit any future successor though!

He is off to the garden centre to buy a barrow for his redundancy cash.
