Sad day indeed, but ultimately the correct decision that should have been made earlier.

No-one wanted him to fail, but he's had sufficient time and the Board have showed a lot of patience with him to try and get it right.

Board have parted ways for me at the latest they probably could have left it if we wanted to still compete this season.

We have the calibre of players, just need the manager with the tactical know how to guide them in the right direction.

If it’s true, i must admit to feeling a bit sad. Really wanted it to work but it is the right decision.

People who we must NOT consider

Alan Stubbs
Paul Hartley

Please consider

Jim Goodwin
Stewart Petrie

Wouldn’t be too displeased with McNamara but hisrecent record worries me.

Statement of intent from the board, I did wonder if they would sit it out to the end of season.

Would like to think they have someone in mind and lined up, no-one is expecting much this season so get someone permanent in now, give them time to know the squad put their stamp on things before next season. Who knows, playoffs is still a possibility if we approach it the right way.

It's a risk, if we get it wrong we could be in the relegation battle and plummet down the table should Falkirk and Partick pick up the pace and alloa keep picking up points. However, for the time AJ has been here, we've stagnated and probably even regressed from last season. We need a hungry new manager willing to take risks from time to time and can drive us up the league

Alan Archibald is one I’ve seen mentioned. Was excellent with Thistle for years minus this seasons disaster. Not my ideal choice but it’s a realistic name being thrown in the hat.

One of the Tweets saying AJ is stepping down down not being asked to leave so possibly nobody lined up yet although I'm sure the board would have some form of stand by list for any eventuality.

Either way it's bad timing for us. Would have been better to have someone in before the break to assess the squad with a view to making the changes they want in January. All going to be a bit rushed if it's true now.

Unsure Berkey. There was talk amongst ex players and fans saying that there was a clause in his contract in January that could be triggered which would nullify a full pay off anyway. If it’s true that he’s walked though, then we wouldn’t have to pay him off.

but in football its driven by results !!!!
And ours have been diabolical for the squad we have at our disposal
So it was only a matter of time before AJ left one way or another
He did his best while he was here and unfortunately this season our expectations as fans have not been met !

Have some sympathy - he made steady progress for 3 years but, for whatever reason, the spine of the team he'd built left meaning that the progress he made was halted. Having said that he spent decent money ( transfer fees and wages) on players who weren't cutting it and don't even look like doing so and I wouldn't be surprised if the board were reluctant to give him another window.

What a stupid post. Do you not think that those Pars fans you've simplistically labelled "happy clappers" were any happier than you at the disappointing performances and results in so many game this season?

The main difference between us and the moaning minnies in your camp, is that we were prepared to stay off the manager's, team's and BoD's backs, in the hope that AJ could turn things around, like he managed to do last season.

I've always believed that a team is more likely to perform better when everyone connected with a club, fans, players, management and directors, are all pulling in the same direction, but what do I know? I'm just a happy clapper.....

I'm not so happy tonight. AJ has lost his job. While he may be adequately compensated, he will be professionally hurt by this decision and may struggle to get another job in football management. On a personal level, he was good for me, being very supportive of the Schools Engagement Programme, making players available every week, because he recognised the value of what the Pars are trying to build in the local community.

I'm sorry it didn't work out for him, but the BoD had little choice but to act as the year on year progress clearly didn't look like working out. So much for those who said Ross didn't have the bottle to sack him. He had the bottle to give him every chance, which is by far the harder course to follow, with ever more fans voicing their displeasure.

That was the easy part. Now to get in a brave young manager with similar qualities to a young Jock Stein. I believe the Pars were relegation certainties when he was appointed, but a long unbeaten run ensured our survival and the rest, as they say, is history.....

My only concern is that we didn’t bullet AJ months ago and we could find ourselves in a position similar to the Rovers a few years ago. Crawford doesn’t fill me with hope in all honesty but willing to give the guy a chance. Two absolutely massive fixtures coming up. I’ll take a positive performance on Saturday even if we lose as long as we don’t lose to that lot a week on Saturday.

That would require self awareness though, so admittedly a long shot.

You're assuming he was pushed. I've have only heard that he resigned.

The wording of the statement would suggest he was let go. Surely if he stepped down this would be reflected in the statement?

I would say the statement was carefully worded, to not reveal the circumstances regarding the exit.

Maybe now the happy clappers will realise how we have failed this season

Maybe now the baying bedwetters having got their way will realise the board were not blind...or doing nothing.

No, I read the statement.

I Hope You're Ok Today....

Thanks for all your effort in getting us into the Championship but for me it should have happened after QoS game last season.

Pressley, Coyle, Archibald, John Hughes or Alex Rae. Some excellent managers available.

Aye, and none of the excellent ones are in your list :)

Cos the Pars are a top, top side, with a huge budget which will allow us to pay good compensation to the manager's previous club and a king's ransom as a salary to the lucky man who comes through the interviews - ken?

It depends if Goodwin would want to go full-time and how much Alloa would want. I think he will eventually get a bigger club than Alloa but I think the club will be St Mirren.

A lot was speculated about AJ not being popular amongst the players over the last year. Today that seems to hold some water, only one took to social media to wish him all the best for the future, Sean Murdoch. The silence from the rest speaks volumes.

Perhaps not significant but an observation nonetheless...

Sean Murdoch on twitter posted “The very best of luck to Alan for the future. Some great memories from 2015”. The post was six hours ago now and not one of his fellow teammates have liked the tweet.

Quite unusual taking into consideration how popular twitter is with multiple members of the current playing squad and the frequency they use it...

They possibly did widtink but putting myself in their position, in public eye etc, even if I had thanked manager i liked in person, I’d 100% still do so on social media the way Murdoch did.

Parsmad123, I hadn’t checked the likes. Good thinking on your part. Several of thesquad have been on twitter posting about other things since Murdoch posted it as well.

It's quite possible he wasn't very popular because results have been generally poor and like the fans, the players would lay the blame at his door. I'll bet he was far more popular in his first season, when we swept all before us..... ☺

Whatever, he's gone now, so we move on, hopefully to bigger and better things.

The players excuse of the manager being blamed has gone. Poor tactics / sub's etc. We will soon see.

His tactics and subs were absolutely disgraceful to be fair.
