Petrie or Goodwin would be ideal, I can see why people are saying Young but I'm really not sure on him.

Crawford has a hard, hard run of games, if he comes through them well he'll feel he deserves a chance.

He's a Morton fan though.... so not sure if he is suggesting Duffy as a good/bad replacement :D

Curious as to whether we will have any movement in the transfer window now?

I'm guessing Craw would have been included in any discussions along with AJ & Sandy so any deals in progress would not be dead in the water now.....
or maybe some will be resurrected?

Oh so many things to speculate on now........

Definitely NOT
John Hughes
Paul Hartley
Csaba Laslo
Mark McGhee
Peter Houston
Steven Presley
Neil McCann
Darren Young

Possible
Jim Goodwin
Barry Nicholson - Cost might be a problem
Calum Davidson - just sacked by Stoke City but well thought of at St Johnstone
Stewart Petrie- Has a good job with Bank of Scotland. No coaching experience with a full time team. Perhaps he could bring "t
The Bonnet" with him as a director of football

IMO i don't want anyone that does not have a good managerial track record
and managing a first division or lower division is not the same as managing a championship side , there is a class difference in each division and stakes are higher also and us fans are very demanding !!
Instead of bringing in a couple of players to bolster the squad , i would prefer to spend the money in bringing in an experienced Manager !
at present I do not know who is out there and would be willing to come to us
Only time will tell , so i won't be speculating who it will be
I'm sure everyone on here would like the best we can afford , And someone that can take us to the next level and i do not think in Scotland just now there is anyone so we need to spread our search a bit wider
Probably the board have already been in touch with prospective Managers so Time will tell all , this Saturday's game will tell much about the players also

Personally I would not want Jackie Mac. Abject failure at UTD and York.

Crawford has never managed and Brewster only for a few seasons in his own right.

So it will be a gamble, but aren’t all managerial appointments?

Darren Young or Goodwin would do a job I think. I would not be unhappy with either.

Jackie Mac had a torrid time down here. York were relegated from Div 2 to the National League under his watch. Next season they were relegated to National League North , JMac moved out of the managerial seat in October that season.

I think I would have major reservations!

Yeh wouldn't want Jackie Mac anywhere near the managers post or any other manager who has a track record of recent failings at this level. Might have to think a bit outside the box. Don't think having co managers is a terrible idea, as long as the two get on. Whatever happens this is a huge time for the club and we as fans need to forget the past and support the board and club to the fullest. I'm just glad we don't have to hear anymore "Johnston get a sub on!" Cries 😂😂😂

Yeah I would have had him as well but can't see him leaving the assistant manager role at Swansea.

I'd take George Burley too but I don't think that's a realistic option either which leaves me back at Davies. Don't really want anyone else on the Bookies list.

Cammy, I couldn’t give a monkeys f*ck if the football is entertaining, I want wins. I’d rather win ugly every week than play good stuff but struggle to pick up points. Ask Arsenal fans who were there during the George Graham years. They were boring as hell but they won the league. Would they have traded that for stylish, silky play and a mid table finish? Would they f*ck.

This divides football fans and probably always will but I think most true fans want to see the team do as well as it possibly can with little regard to what manner that actually happens. If you can do both, great but that’s often difficult on a budget.

Not having managed full-time previously didn't do David Hopkin or Jack Ross any harm in excelling in this division. It would certainly bridge the us and them gap that currently seems to exist between the club and the fans.Having the fans on board from the off will be a huge help.I'm not saying he is the man but Petrie has done a tremendous job at Montrose.

His e-mail from 2006

Dear Andy thanks for the email, no I have not applied
as yet and have been thinking about doing so though I
understand they already have someone in mind.
As for the last time My demands were not at all high
as I had not even discussed that in fact I was in
Greece looking at a couple of players when I got the
call that they were going to offer me the job upon my
arrival once we had agreed terms and with out
hesitation I cancelled several meetings and booked a
flight from Athens to Edinburgh only to be told the
next day that they would see me a week later, then a
week later I get a call from Jim saying he was taking
over as there was financial crisis.
I really wanted the job as you say it would have been
a good way for me to get in and with decent people.
I will give Jim a call and see whats what but thank
you for your support and please pass that on I have
quite a few emails from your supporters

I'd be surprised if we get a manager in who's currently employed by another club, as it's likely that a reasonable compensation was agreed with AJ and his assistant. We're not so awash with cash that we can also throw money at another club as well.

Goodwin part time, the site I looked it has him contracted for another 4 and a half months ( not sure if that's correct) so it wouldn't break the bank, he might be the cheapest option of those currently in a post.

Surprised at people having a go at McNamaras managerial record
First job at Patrick , got them to the Challenge cup final and left them to go to Utd in 2nd place where they ultimately won the league .
Utd then finished 6th that year and in his first full season got them to finish 4th and also while there got them to both the league cup final and Scottish cup final.
Then they sold Mackay Steven and Armstrong..........

I concede York City was a shocker.....

I wonder if we will wait until summer, that way we could get a manager who's contract will be about to expire. However its totally unfair on Stevie C having to do all the work himself. Perhaps an easy one would be to get Leishman or Jimmy Calderwood back until summer. We will just have to wait.

I do hope the Board have a clearer idea than the fanbase of who (or at least what type of person/manager) they would like to appoint!

Some of the names put forward are so far left-field they are in a different county - nothing intrinsically wrong with that if you're doing a brainstorming exercise, but I would expect the Board to have moved past that stage some time ago.

Whoever it is, I am sure he (or even she) will be expected to fully buy into the community activities and values of DAFC under the PU ownership, so I don't expect to see any change in that respect. Beyond that, i haven't a clue - there are some interesting candidates but no obvious front-runner (IMO).

I’m possibly one of the few supporters who is more worried that we’re now possibly putting a non proven manager in for the rest of the season. Also don’t see why we would be interested in Jim Goodwin...the last time I checked Alloa had a worse record than us. I’m lost to who we could actually afford to get in, including money to buy a decent strike force. I hope whoever get the job for the rest of the season is given a bit of slack. Saturday will hopefully be a breathe of fresh air for the players & a new found freedom.

Kirkliston Alloa are only 4 points behind us in the league and are part time with a budget a fraction of ours.

Goodwin has them punching above, it’s not all about league position, it’s how you use the resources you have available.

We do much better when we get the ball down on deck and pass it. We need a manager who will allow the team to play flowing football but also have some tactical know how to play against the teams above us in the league & how to boss the teams that just try to kick us off the park.

I actually think our position will induce a good level of interest from some managers/ex-players off the normal gravy train.

We are potentially a premiere league club which is once again in the spotlight for the reasons much debated and has a current TV deal.

Anyone taking our club there is set to get recognition and ultimately exposure, we are 1 step away from that.

Starting in League 2 of the English is a hell of journey to take a club to the top league.

Steven Gerrard factor coming to Scotland and what he has achieved won't have gone un-noticed down South and has made himself a top manager in half a season.

Has Frank Lampard had the same exposure?

It is down to our board to decide to gamble or play safe when the applications come in.

Personally I'd love to see a gamble and some excitement around the appointment and a bit of feel good factor and an expectation.

As said above by Rastapari none of the names being banded about excite me whatsoever.

An ex EPL top player looking to come into management would be a terrific appointment as one to excite fans and give the players a little bit of that wow factor!

Crawford gets a decent performance out of them at the weekend and then beats Raith I'd be pretty content with him.
He's been a number 2 for a while and knows Dunfermline as good as anyone.
Would have no issue with an older head joining him to help out.

The story I heard was that he was too 'soft' to make the hard decisions as gaffer, but was respected from a coaching stand point.

Looking back I don't think it was something he was ready for at the time to be honest.
It was quite a while back now though and I'd imagine he's developed a heck of a lot as a manager/coach.
He was a former Scotland international, big name, still playing, on the books so it probably seemed the sensible thing to do.
He was still playing every week back then and didn't really have anyone on the sidelines to change things.
When Naysmith took over as player/boss he brought in Paul Hegarty to do that and it worked.
It all kind of happened a bit quickly with Crawford at EF so wouldn't imagine anyone at Dunfermline will be judging him on that short spell.
As DBA says, though, I know he was highly thought of by the players.

Cool story, where did I say that?

I wouldn't trust anyone but AJ, my niece who's not long celebrated her first birthday probably wouldn't do a better job.

If the answer is Jackie McNamara then our board are asking the wrong questions.

If, and it's a big if, we appoint a manager 24 hours after the previous one has resigned fairly unexpectedly you can't seriously say to me we've carried out a thorough recruitment process?

It was 100% the correct decision to let AJ go, that doesn't mean that anyone would do a better job. Those two things arent mutually inclusive, you already know that and you're being deliberately obtuse right enough.

I think Macnamara would be an excellent choice. His time finished at Dundee utd because of Thomson selling his best players. Three to Celtic in a week. He had a good record till then and before with Patrick. York was a disaster for him due to no funds and he had to accept an executive role as they couldn't afford a pay off.
He played for us and has a feeling for the club.

united fans HATED Mcnamana because his contract ultimately meant he got a bonus/% of any transfer fee received for players being sold. GMS/Armstrong/Cifti going all lined his pockets quiet pretty despite him only signing 1 of the 3. He took York from the Football league to the National North, (2 back to back relegation's).

Thst contract was set up by Thompson as he told McNamara that ultimately Utd were becoming a selling club so it was in his best interests to bring on the younger players.
His basic wage was lower compared to the previous management.

He also oversaw Ryan Gauld improvement to get him sold to Sporting and also brought Andy Robertson to Dundee before the club sold him as well, he never sokdajy players , that was all done by Thompson.

Plus he was only manager for the first relegation, he resigned just after the start of the next season

Nobody should be having second thoughts about the board’s decision. If anything, it is at least a couple of months late.

If you are still in doubt, just scroll down to Saturday’s match thread and re-read it from top to bottom. It tells you everything you need to know about why we are where we are today.

Goodwin, Petrie, McNamara, Young, Archibald... that’s a decent enough shortlist as far as I am concerned. It is up to the board to make the right choice and I will back their judgment.

Jackie McNamara would be far from the worst appointment in the world. 1 cup final with Patrick & the team he left went on to win the league if I’m not mistaken. 2 cup finals with Utd.. 5th then 4th place finishes. If anyone thinks the Thompsons weren’t pushing the transfers of Mackay-Steven, Armstrong and ciftci they’ve lost it.

I'm sure Jackie played a part in their development but I think it's largely Ian Cathro that gets credited as the biggest influence on both their careers.

It's a shame he failed so badly as a manager as he seems to be held in very high regard as a coach.

Cathro certainly played his part when he was a youngster but he left Utd in 2012 before Gauld had fully established himself in the team

Robertson never even joined until 2013

Unless of course you are making the connection with the SFA set up

I thought Cathro had worked with them through his soccer academy that he ran prior to getting the coaching role at United but I've maybe got Robbo mixed up with some other names that were coming through about the same time.

I will certainly stand corrected if I'm wrong as it was a few years back I read the article!

Very interested to see how this pans out, two highly regarded ex-pars at the helm will at the very least be a lift in morale around EEP for the time being.

Hopefully the board pull a rabbit out of the hat with the other coach appointment who can compliment the strengths and weaknesses of stevie and greg.
