 McNamara & Co role
Topic Originator: livipar2

Be very keen to hear exactly what his role and responsibilities will be at East End.

Hopefully this is clarified sooner rather than later.

Mon the Pars!!!!!!!!!!!

Steven Mill confirms on twitter that a statement from the chairman will be released soon and this contains all of the details.

I would think that he will be in charge of recruitment. Crawford has been named as Head Coach which normally means he'll only deal with the playing side of things.

Don’t like the sound of that. Did Falkirk not have someone who made the decisions who to sign and the manager had to get on with it. During Hartleys reign I think.

A manager should decide who to sign. It is not just a players ability that has to be taken into account but his mentality and how he will fit in with the team a manager is building...

I really hope this is not the case. McNamara chooses the signings and Crawford has to cobble together a team with what he is given? If this was the best way of doing things everyone would be doing it. A few clubs gave it a shot and then they changed back to a more traditional way of operating.

It’s the same as what we have been doing except responsibility is spread across 2 people!

Aj signed the players with no idea where or how to fit them in and then aj had to cobble together a team with them! Ultimately this approach failed.

Say for example stevie says we need a right back, does Jackie look to bring one in or does Jackie decide what we need?

Just sitting here drenched in my own positivity! AJ is gone!

AJ made a complete baws up of the last transfer window. His player recruitment was utterly abysmal. A few with pass marks but Hippo, Muirhead, Devine, Durnan, Faz? Depressing.

A lot depends on the scope of what JMs role really is but if its the equivalent of a technical director, if we do it properly:

SC would say we need a right back with characteristics XYZ and possibly chuck in a few names as a suggestion. JM would begin assessing things like availability, affordability, interest in joining us by the player, fitness and whether the player is injury prone and draw up a short list.

Short list would then be discussed between manager, board or chairman and manager with the manager prioritising the list of players. Once the manager has said the order he wants players in or rules out players for any reason, JM would then instigate the contact with the player and oversee the negotiations and registration of the player.

They had Southampton's ex technical director on the Sky debate thing and he said he'd never sign someone the manager didn't want but he'd seen complete breakdowns at other clubs where the technical managers were astute business guys with no football background and they were making signings based on stats and finance rather than focussing on what a manager really needed.

I'd be a bit surprised if JM is going to have as much reach as technical director would so I guess we'll get a better view once we see the statement from the chairman.

As far as I can tell from the chairman’s interview, Jackie Mac is gonna be in charge of the team fitbits. :-/

That's quite funny mate :-)

On a serious note it sounds like they've been looking to improve the support any manager gets for a while so it sounds like infrastructure support (including the fit bits 😀)

If his remuneration is a percentage of any future transfer fees received then he's picked the wrong club to join! 😂

At the moment his role is,frankly,as clear as mud!

However,if it transpires that he is Director Of Football I will be delighted.

His track record at Dundee United was superb until the loss of GMS and Stuart Armstrong and Ciftci.

I also liked the fact that, once he moved from Dunfermline to Celtic,as a player,he was often seen cheering on the Pars at East End if we had a match and Celtic didn't,rather like Leigh Griffiths today often frequenting Easter Road.

He is pretty much hated by Dundee United fans and York City fans. He has a link to a football agency. He apparently recommended a lot of the dross that Neil McCann signed for Dundee. I'd certainly not be "delighted" if he was director of football.

He can only recommend them, it's entirely on McCann that he went ahead and signed them.

I Hope You're Ok Today....

pretty sure it wasn't McNamara that was involved with McCann and those signings, he wont have a huge impact on any signings here.

What is?

Hated at his last two jobs? Correct.
Links to an agency, Correct.
Rumoured to have recommended players to Dundee? Rumours have appeared in multiple sources.
Wouldn't be delighted if he was DoF? Personal opinion.

Add that to the fact he was done for fare dodging on the train and I fail so see how anything can be described as "utter baws" but if you can add to your magnum opus then go ahead.

Wasn't exactly fare dodging though was it , he was going to pay on the train and the machine wouldn't accept the cards.
The case for refusing to pay was dropped.

The transfer fees part was well known. I couldn't give one fk about the train fares thing. Strange how some are quick to judge on something so minor.
