 That double substitution - WTF
Topic Originator: livipar2

Worse than anything I saw under AJ. Two strikers who were combining well taken off for a lightweight striker and a defensive midfielder. Going 4-5-1 with 20 minutes to go - could we have been anymore negative!

Mon the Pars!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree, if Bruce was goosed why take faz off?

Never scoring after that. Where was muirhead the day we had nothing on the bench.9

Because we were being overrun in the middle of the pitch and Crawford wanted to change to a 4-5-1. FEB can’t play as a lone striker and Anderson’s legs had gone.

Why Higgy lasted 90 mins is bizarre, we need to get away from this Higgy Williaamson agenda they are both culpable

Williamson as usual was bullied, not prepared to match up physically to his opposite number and that’s why he’ll never go anywhere.

Higgy was standard higgy tho, having seen the last 2.5 seasons can anyone tell me what they see in him? He should have had flicks like that trained out of him at 16 year old at the latest, no brain whatsoever and unfortunately no football talent either.

Anderson was knackered but Faiss was still providing a decent out ball. Substitutions were terrible and we lost any chance of taking something from the game. Don't know what he sees in Smith.

He's just not the right appointment at this time (Crawford).
I felt dread when it was announced and seen nothing to change that, mess.

I Hope You're Ok Today....

Faz gets a bit of stick on here but I can't recall a game all season when he's been subbed and the replacement has done any better. He was linking up well with Anderson and was at the heart of anything positive we did in an attacking sense. We weren't great before he went off but were totally cr*p when he did. Similar situation at tannadice a couple of weeks ago when the substitutions made us worse.

What’s Crawford contract situation? Surely he should have been made caretaker at the very most?

Anderson was knackered and Faissal had drifted out the game after a good start. Smith up top on his own is a poor decision though. He isn't strong enough to play that role. Thought Vincent was poor in the second half. I feared Gardyne coming on but their strength in depth compared to ours is frightening.

I agree with Kelty. Bruce was tiring so right to go and FEB wasn't as influential as first half. Taking them both off for Smith and Blair indicated to me he was more focussed on not conceding another than scoring and trying to win the game.

I don't think the subs lost us that game, it did make it certain we were never going to win it. We lost that game due to silly player errors.

Anderson was still causing them problems - should have stayed on. We lost the 2nd goal after the changes. Vincent is defensive, not a forward midfielder. So much wrong with the decisions that are being taken.

You cannot blame County's second goal on management. That one had Higgy painted all over it.

Pacifist....We lost the first goal before the changes. We were being overrun in midfield. The purpose of the change was to put an extra man in there. It didn’t pan out in the end but the reasoning was sound.

Thought it was a shrewd move at the time. AJ wouldn't have bothered doing anything and we'd have lost anyway.

Was a little frustrated as it pretty much killed off any chance of us scoring again however.

These subs consigned us to an inevitable defeat in my view. We were making mistakes all over the pitch then and toothless up front. Anderson's presence and potential may have made a continued difference. When we invited them to attack us there was just an inevitability about it.

Don't think pars_andy could make it any clearer, SC was trying to nullify a threat our midfield were losing it.

Yeah and putting an extra man in midfield isn’t ‘inviting them to attack’ it’s an effort to get more possession. If he’d put on a defender then that criticism would be valid but that’s definitey not the plan when putting an extra man in midfield.

and risk him pulling up after not playing in over a month because of injury and very little training? no.

No issue with the extra man in midfield, nor with a knackered Bruce going off. Smith for Faiss was the bad one for me.

I guess Crawford thought the Smith was better equipped to play the lone striker role. I would actually share that view too. Faiss is a bit too light for that role.

I thought Ross County were poor defensively today. They were badly missing Morris. Most of the chances in the first half came from really bad errors from County

And if he hadn’t done it we’d probably still have lost the game and everyone would’ve been shouting about the fact we were getting overrun in midfield and he didn’t do anything to change it.

Yes mostly everything you write on here is nonsense. I don’t think you have a clue about football at all. Better going to rugby that’s even if you go to games or just an arm chair supporter. Have you ever encouraged or said anything good about a dunfermline player or is that to hard for you?

So what's your point? Are you saying he shouldn't have changed things to try and counter the grip Ross County had exercised in midfield?

Are you not one of the posters who used to lay into AJ for not making any substitutions until it was too late or not at all? Yesterday, we had very little experience on the bench, due to our injury list, unfortunately.

I wouldn't bother entertaining it GG. We have a lot of people on here who clearly can only accept success and struggles to cope when times are tough.

GG Riva. The manager tried a couple of substitutions which failed because we went on to lose the game. Maybe is he tried something else the outcome would have been different. If the subs went on and we won or drew the game then praise would be issued

I thought at the time the subs were good and fresh legs were needed but ultimately we got beat again and the choice of subs have failed. Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t that what managers get paid for?

I'd be interested in what squad we'll have next season, from the current squad I'd only really be interested in keeping
Scully, Murdoch, J Longridge, Ashcroft, L Martin, Craigan, Beadling J Thompson and A Ryan

By that reckoning we'd need 2 centre backs, a right back, 3, possibly 4 wingers and 2 strikers. That's a big overhaul and there's no guarantee we'd keep the players we want.

1981 par....it’s not as simple as that. Ross County changed things and were a far bigger threat in the 2nd half. I’m not sure that Crawford had the personnel available to counteract the threat Ross County posed especially when combined with Anderson tiring. It’s possible that by making the change he did, he prevented a much heavier defeat. It’s possible that there were no options available which would have prevented a Ross County win. Not everything is within Crawford’s control.

The time I’ve been most critical of AJ this season was following the game against Dundee Utd at home. What annoyed me was that it was obvious that Utd were playing 4-5-1 and were totally swamping us in the middle of the pitch. AJ watched that for 90 minutes without changing the system and it was clear we were heading for a heavy defeat. If he’d changed formation, we may still have lost the game, but that wouldn’t have made the decision to change the formation wrong.

I’ve been a manager. On many occasions, I knew why the game was running away from me and knew what needed to be done to correct it, but often I would look at my subs and knew I didn’t have the players with the correct qualities to remedy the situation. I think that’s exactly the position Crawford found himself in yesterday

Agree, it’s not the tactics that lost the game yesterday it’s the quality of player on the park in certain positions and the lack of anything at all on the bench to change things.

Just don’t seem to have the Personel to turn this around at the moment, particularly on the wings and at the back.

GJS93 nails it.

It would have been the height of insanity to leave Anderson on.

He had a bad injury in Christmas week ,had returned early, but with little training.

That man looks our best hope to keep us safe.

If he had pulled up ,we might have not seen him for another month!

As it is ,he wil score against Inverness. Those armchair fans, who looked with incredulity as Dunfermline led against the League Leaders, will just have to attend a match, and see what we were raving about.
