 Clean sheets
Topic Originator: rossmcno1

Another win for us and yet another clean sheet. This time with added goals for gloss.

Is it just as simple as Scully being a better keeper than Robinson with far superior communication skills with his defence, or what has changed...?

What cannot be argued is Scullys record, only 2 goals conceded and 4 out of 5 clean sheets. Well done to him and the team!

Would be interested in Silema's views on this.

Looking very solid but I think it's the midfield that's helped that as well. Looking very solid in the tackle in the middle of the field.

Didn't miss Longridge tonight either. Craigan was superb.

Scully didn't really have much to do today but they look much more like a unit in defence since he's come in.

Another signing which certain posters were criticising...

Tonight it definitely wasn't his communication skills I saw several times where he should have shouted to the defence and he didn't which resulted in the usual punting the ball out of play
But hey I will take another win and look forward to Saturday

Agree with Turps 100% and I never thought I see us be so robust without Vincent in the team.
I thought Anderson was outmuscled for most of tonight and I don't like the way he dives at times but goals win games and he was in the right place when it mattered.

We could easily have lost a goal in the first half. Some very shaky moments in the box and McDonald had a free header from a corner and should have probably scored

Just getting the rub of the green just now. The centre back pairing really worry me and Ryan looks like a man playing with no confdence

And the pleasing thing is Ryan Scully has hardly had a save to make in the 3 games. Defence is certainly on top. Scully distribution tonight was awful but is a solid keeper. Roll on next week

Couldn’t believe the space McDonald was given for that header and there were some hairy moments in the first half. Second half was much better. I agree with you on Williamson, too timid and hesitant at the moment.

I have to agree with Raymie here - I don't think we look loads better than when AJ was in charge, but the results are obviously much better, which is weird cause it's hard to believe it's all down to luck. WTF do I know though.

Ryan Scully's distribution is not remotely the calibre of Lee's, but he ,undeniably, had one phenomenal save early on.

His relationship and communication with his back four visibly improves with every game, so Credit where Credit is due.

Who would have thunk a FT keeper working with his team mates all week would translate into clean sheets? All the while with a goalkeeping coach too.

Anyone reading this board would reckon keeper is such a specialist position that players don’t need to train or be coached and can just pitch up on Saturday and everything will click 😂

Couldn't agree more , no more confusion in the six yard area, Scullys made some fantastic save and his kicking is far superior to Robinson's, he finds a player with every kick out and uses the full backs well, he also is very quick to get the players moving .
Brilliant signing

How much better would Robinson have done under the guidance of the new management team.

Not disagreeing....just being fair to Robinson.

OK I should have said facts rather than stats but if you want to be numerical.

1 New manager
2 New assstant managers / coaches
1 Less AJ
1 Less SJ
1 Blair
1 New effective goalscorer
1 better organised defence
1 Return of Beadling

I thought I made it clear that if you are going to compare the two keepers in a fair manner you need to consider how much better Robinson might have done with the same set up.

It is significant that Stevie Crawford's very first move as manager was to dump Lee Robinson and bring in Ryan Scully. Clearly, he felt the goalkeeper was a weak link.

The training issue apart, Robinson is not tall enough to be a really effective goalkeeper as he will never truly command his area. His behaviour at penalties and his frightening tendency to go for strolls upfield at times pointed to a player who took an undisciplined approach to his game.

Certainly, he had some good qualities, but on balance I would much rather see Ryan Scully standing between the posts for Dunfermline.

We are seeing the benefits of the new manager's decision now - a series of clean sheets and a much more cohesive defence.

Not disagreeing with that Oz but I can't really think of any times where Robinson was directly responsible for points being dropped. He does seem like a nugget but I would attribute the tighter ship to the flooded midfield protecting the still shoogly back 4 and keeper. I s'pose we will never know as I don't think we will see the ginger antagonist between the sticks. I've always liked Ryan but the other night against Partick his communication was not great. A keeper should have the loudest voice on the park.

Scully is definitely the better keeper, there was no doubt about it, I struggled to understand the argument for Robinson.

He wasn't a standout, had a bit of an unnecessary ego, easily replaceable.

Was a very shrewd first move from the Craw who has hardly put a foot wrong so far.

One bad game with Raith is the only black mark to his name.

Dundee Utd came too early and it was just concentration that let us down. A loss to Ross County isn't unexpected.

A drab goalless draw with Morton I think helped more than we thought.

Falkirk game he was superb but was poor against Morton 3 times and a bit fortunate not to get a red card on 2 or 3 occasions for kicking out at players.

Overall Scully is better.

It's not luck that the same person cleared the ball off the line twice.

You could easily argue why we're giving chances that warrant being cleared off the line, that's valid. Just my humble opinion.

Anyone who truly believes Ryan Scully is a superior goalie to Lee Robinson has had that answered .

A dreadful second half against Dunde Utd followed by his wretched performance against Ayr Utd.

He was complicit in both the goals we lost.

Even in the wonderful five goal unexpected run,Jacksin Longridge and James Craigen were kept busy clearing off the line.

When SC was appointed we all knew our weaknesses were upfront, yet his first action was to inexplicably change the goalkeeper.

Not saying Scully is great, but he made several good stops to keep the score down against DU just after their goal and last night, he had to contend with Shankland coming in on a ball which should never have been allowed in the first place from McDaid which then bounced awkwardly as well.

What I don't understand was the original need to bring Scully in at all when we have Robinson and a decent reserve goalie.

Scully is a better keeper than Robinson, I stand by the fact that if we had Scully most of this season we'd have let in less goals, not by much granted by poor defence.

The goal last night was not just Scully, did you miss Williamson just let him inside to shoot without a care in the world? The truth is there shouldn't have been a save there for him to make in the first place.

Starting to build for next season knowing that Robinson was never going to be here?

There was a positive report on Scully on last night's A View From The Terrace. Admittedly he didn't have much competition but, for me, Scully was man of the match against Dundee Utd and was not at fault for the goal lost in that game. Could've maybe done better with last night's goal but Williamson's attempt to stop the cross at source was weak and Scully was obviously trying to stay on his feet for as long as possible anticipating Shankland getting a touch on it that never materialised.I think Scully is a decent keeper for this level and is our former Player of The Year twice over.

For the record Robinson had done nothing wrong for me but I can understand us not wanting to have a part-time keeper. It was obvious Robinson was never going to be here next season.

DAFC 90's trolling of Scully is getting increasingly tedious. He does this after every game. We know he has got a particular agenda and why.

Pretty simple. The rest of the players are full time. Robinson is not. Scully integrates well in the squad. Robinson does not.

"Anyone who truly believes Ryan Scully is a superior goalie to Lee Robinson has had that answered .

A dreadful second half against Dunde Utd followed by his wretched performance against Ayr Utd.

He was complicit in both the goals we lost."

I appreciate football is all about opinions, but that seems very harsh from Sliema Par.

My recollection of the Dundee Utd game is that Scully was not in any way to blame for Pawlett's goal, and that he kept us in contention after that with several fine saves.

Last night he may have been partly to blame for Ayr's goal, although I would have to see it again to be sure. But once again he had a couple of fine saves, from a 1-on-1 with Shankland and also from a header which he didn't know was going to be judged offside.

In summary, Scully was not to blame for either defeat, the problems are further upfield - 30 goals from 30 matches tells its own story.

Why mentioned Scully?
I simply said what's gone wrong?
