 Highlights v Alloa
Topic Originator: OzPar

Given the challenges that Pars TV team faced yesterday, I was a wee bit surprised to find that there is a highlights package, but here it is:-

As folk who were at the game have said it wasn't the most thrilling of matches. But what the highlights do show, quite clearly I think, is that we are pressing and holding possession well and stringing together quite extensive passing plays. The goal was very nicely taken by Bruce Anderson.

Superb finish and a good cleaneance off the line. God knows what Hippolyte was doing at the end there though!

I think that fundamentally Hippo has, for some reason, developed a fear of taking a shot at goal. It is a psychological thing and by no means uncommon. Some focussed one-on-one training could help him through this.

On both of those occasions in the last few minutes when Hippolyte broke free and had half-chances, he was being yelled at from some fans to take it to the corner and play for time. Perhaps at some level that influenced him, and if a striker is in two minds he inevitably fluffs the chance.

The goal was really well worked, i think there were 17 passes involved. Again, some fans can't see the value of keeping possession, even if sometimes that means playing the ball sideways or even backwards. That was certainly true of the gentleman sitting next to me, who let his feelings be known every time the ball didn't go forwards!

As well as being really narrow, the pitch looked a really difficult surface to play on, and the bounce seemed to confuse players of both teams. I thought Alloa's No 5 (Graham) was outstanding, and he deserved the MoM award.

Oz, the camera was the easy bit,
but I haven’t watched so don’t know if you can see people in front of lens, or even hear us chatting as we were trying to get rest of kit going :)

Have to agree with OzPar. I was pleasantly surprised at some of the interplay and early shooting. On this occasion without reward but doing better.

Like Oz - Due to Pars TV issues I too missed the game and based on some of the comments of those at the game was pleasantly surprised at the quality of some of our play on the highlights. We seemed to be keeping the ball on the deck a lot more looking for passes.

Scoring a goal after a move involving 17 passes isn't bad for a team that allegedly plays 'hoofball'. The reserves scored a similar goal last week at QoS.

That's what I was thinking Wee Eck. Perhaps that's a move taught by Shields! 🤔

We've played Great football all season the difference is we now have someone who likes and whos job is to score goals.
A win Instills conifidence and that's all there is to it .
As I previously mentioned we ever fortunate enough not to get punished for mistakes and also had a bit if luck along the way ,Thomson flukey goal and a penalty .
We never had any luck whatsoever under AJ so until we have a tough game or two I'm reluctant to get carried away.
There's hardly a team in the league that haven't had a decent run of games most of which have come to an end.,there's not a lot between me at teams in the league and to be honest I think it's one of the poorest championships I've seen for awhile
I think we have one of the best squads in the league but even up to Saturdays I've still not seen us play anywhere near the squads capability

One of the worst championships?

Have you ever seen a competition anywhere else where the bottom team is unbeaten by the 2nd top team in 4 out of 5 games and everyone is taking points off each other?

Do you ever think at all before posting?

Don’t agree with that at all. Played well second half in the opening game and against Falkirk just before new year. Other than that, maybe had 2/3 good halves of football. But it’s definitely stretching the truth to say we’d played great football all season.

Out of interest, what was it about our play that you think had been great, when AJ was in charge?

I suspect DAFC 90 meant to say “we’ve NOT played great football all season”.

I think he has a point about the quality of the league though - it is exciting because all teams are much of a muchness - simply though because none of them are much good.

I also think the bottom end of the Premier League is weak though so whichever Championship team reaches the play off final should have a great chance.

Let’s keep bringing out the one nils and see where it takes us - can’t wait for Saturday.

What a terrific goal that was. Worked the ball from side to side when there wasn't an obvious way forward then when the gap did open up we attacked it well and put a quality ball in the box. Its then a great take and finish. The defender will think he should have done better but that's not for us to worry about 😀 COYP.
