 Barcelona v Liverpool
Topic Originator: GG Riva

Another cracking semi-final tie in prospect tonight. Flushed with the partial success of my prediction last night, I'll try again. I think Barca will win a tight game, so 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1.

For Liverpool to have a chance of winning the tie, they need to grab an away goal tonight. Barca will be reasonably happy with a 1-0 win, confident they can score at Anfield next week.

What odds a Barca win and both teams to score?

You're on a good roll with your forecasts GG so I won't argue. Liverpool are a good side to watch with a solid defence and lively attack, but I think that Barca will be able to control the play better from midfield over the two legs. Add in Suarez and Messi and it will take two great performances from Liverpool to win the tie.

Liverpool will get that away goal but will conceed three goals which will leave them with mission impossible by the time this tie gets back to Anfield

Keep their strikeforce quiet and can see Liverpool winning comfortably.

If you only turn up to moan then do it elsewhere

Herr Flopp’s gegenpress b*llocks will cause Barca serious problems. Barca have zero pace at the back so can see Liverpool scoring at least once tonight. Hopefully Barca turn up and slap them. The English media’s fawning over all things Liverpool has been way over the top so a good thumping off Barca boys would be very enjoyable.

If Messi turns up Barca have a chance but without the little genius having a great game I'd expect Liverpool to come away with a favourable result. Would certainly be surprised if Barca can stop the Liverpool forwards.

Turn on, Tune in, Drop out.

A 3-1 defeat is only slightly worse than a 1-0. Keep a clean sheet and score a goal in each half and you're through.....

There will be goals. Strange lineup from Klopp. Is he planning on putting a man marker on Messi ?

Interesting listening to the commentary talking about the goal. As good as it was there's been no mention of VVD playing Suarez on side by dropping behind Matip.

Reds need to do better around the barca box. Have been in decent positions but getting crowded out cause they're not getting the shot away quick enough.
Not difficult to see why fans of other teams hate Suarez. A most dislikable individual.

Funny that’s the type of player we actually need. That type of character anyway. Grit and determination.

Wow. What a fantastic free kick from the best player ever. Liverpool were the better team in long spells but Barca are far more clinical. You just wonder how different Barca will be without Messi. It will be a sad day for football when he calls it a day.

Spewin.
Dominated the first half hour of the 2nd half. Gilt edged chances missed by Mane, Milner and Salah.
But as said above could have been 5 at the end.

So many times he's done this for Barca. Great to watch but also going to be interesting to see just how good Barca are when he hangs up his boots. Take Messi out and I don't see much between them and the other top European teams.

600 goals for Messi. Wow! In the time I’ve been supporting Dunfermline , I think I have seen Messi score more. I’ve been watching us from about 1992/93 and it would be shocked if we have scored 600 goals since then .

Works out at about 37.5 goals a season over 16 years so although it's been a fairly barren season, you've definitely seen the Pars score more.

Some record though.

Liverpool have no creative midfield. The EPL is massively overrated, for nobody is thinking to a high enough level. Anyone who watches regularly can see this, including Barcelona.

Having Suarez and Messi in the same team is like having Law and Dalglish playing together in their prime, except they may be better. It's called European football but the Argentinian and the Uruguayan made the difference.

There's no way back for Liverpool now, I don't think. Had they scored just one of the very decent chances they had (step forward Salah, Milner and Sane) the tie would still be very much alive, thanks to the away goals rule.

Agree with GG - On another day perhaps Salah and Sane would have scored giving Liverpool valuable away goals but credit to Barca for their goals (especially first and third). Almost impossible for Liverpool now because they will have to go for it at Anfield and will be more open at the back and up against Messi and Suarez. Only 1 away goal for Barca and they have to score 5.

Even if Salah had been on target, Barca had three players plus the keeper scrambled back on the line who may well have blocked it.
They may have a genius up front but the defenders work their socks off.

With the antics of their fans again yesterday, it was a joy to see Liverpool get royally pumped.

I'm no fan of Man City either (in actual fact I can't stand them) but would still rather see them win the league than the scouse rabble.
