Heard last week the JL is meant to be going to Aberdeen and we will be getting cash and Anderson for another season,l which I was sceptical about but after seeing Shinnie has signed for Derby it seems that it could actually happen!

If there was any truth in it how much should we realistically demand for him?

Do Aberdeen have any money? Guessing we’re probably in the £75k range? If it was a club down south you could prob double that.

Would take Anderson back for next season but Aberdeen would need to be paying a chunk of his wages to sweeten the deal enough too.

I would be surprised if this is true tho....

So so not true, this is a club who are turning their nose up at the likes of Lee Wallace.

I haven't really followed that rumour but if they are knocking back Wallace I'd imagine that could well come down to finances rather than ability. Wallace was rumoured to be on £15 to £18k a week at Rangers and even allowing for a wage drop, he would still be a lot more expensive option than JL. If you could sign a decent left back for £1/2k a week would you really pay the extra for Wallace? He's probably a better player but what extra do you get for your money?

From Wallace's perspective he can probably get a lower league gig in England on more money than Aberdeen would want to pay for a left back.

Bruce Anderson has openly said he will not be at EEP next season and why would Aberdeen want JL?, there are way better options for a team fighting for top 4 in the premiership!

I’m here to take over!!

That's just great! Let our best player go and receive peanuts in return. Great motivation to renew season ticket!

He might have been "our best player" but last season that's not saying very much.
If he is going down south they can pay silly money for players. Definitely more replaceable than Morris was the summer before.

How ďo you know we've received "peanus" for him? Are you suggesting the Pars should refuse to let him go and further his career? D'you think it's smart to keep an unhappy player.

Above all, don't forget we've just posted a significant loss for the season just ended. Had we made a healthy profit, we might have been able to offer JL improved terms for the coming season and he would have been happy to stay.

widtink,
Are we needing to schedule another melt-down/panic session.

I'm afraid I'm a bit busy from now till after the weekend.

Might manage to dip a toe in intermittently for a mild "wobble" before Monday night but can't promise a FULL MELTDOWN till at least Tuesday lunchtime.

Sorry.

I hope its not true... They may pay big money for players down south but not when their valuation isn't inflated.

Look at John McGinn... Had he been playing in a league 1 side villa would have paid double.

Anyway, as said, really hope it's not true

It's about time we started selling the odd player for some money to help us in the long term.If true it's a good bit of business from the club, getting a player on a free and then selling them on for a fee a year later. It's not very often in recent times we've made a profit on a player.Whilst it's not all about money if you look at other clubs they have gained a significant advantage in terms of getting money for outgoing players.
If he isn't likely to sign an extension to any deal it's absolutely right that we should sell avoiding a repeat of last season when we lost a whole host of players for nothing.

If we get a good offer for him, say £150k or so with a sell on clause then fair enough. But he is one of the top fullbacks in the league and they are hard to come by, so we'd need to consider how we'd replace him if he left. We are a bit cash strapped, yes, but we also have aspirations of the playoffs next year and you don't do that by selling your best players off.

OK ParsPryde... I'm pretty much free from tomorrow at midday right up till Monday morning so I can go into hysterical mode between those times.
All we need now to cover it is someone to volunteer to go utterly enraged from tonight (if rumour is confirmed) until 12:00 tomorrow when I'll take over.
Then of course we will need someone to go fully berserk when I have to go back to work on Monday until you take over ... But there's the whole weekend to organise cover.
Any volunteers that think they can help please post here.
Thanks
🤣

A shrewd move if it helps recoup the loss from last season as much as I'd be disappointed in losing him.

Financially this would make sense if the figure fits.

150k? would be doing well to get even half of that imo.

whether this is true or not every player has a price and if that is met then so be it.

Would be shrewd business if true. Martin is fantastic at left-back and found himself unfortunate to be replaced by Wacko Jacko tbh.

Isn't the fee in these cases based on the value of the player's wages in his unexpired contract? Unless there was competition for his signature why would a club pay more than that?

You tell the buying club there is a long list of clubs trying to sign him :)

It depends how badly any team wants the player. They would pay a fee as they would be able to sign the player a year earlier than they otherwise would be able to if the selling club decided to hold onto them. The buying club then risks competition when the player is able to speak to other clubs in January about going for free at the end of the season.

The prize money down south is such that buying a player from the Scottish Championship is a drop in the ocean to many of them.

Scottish players tend to be cheaper than an English equivalent though because English clubs know we're all skint!

I agree, think with the position the club is in that the board has recently outlined, a 40k bid to them may well be significantly lower than you'd want but a necessary piece of income to tide us over and not considered 'nonsense' in the slightest.

Ofcourse noone has a clue what the figure is, all speculation so who knows.
