Good luck to him but I think for him to move on was best for both parties. He hasn't improved in the last 3 years here, has great pace ability but lacks in other areas. Wish him the best for thistle, knowing our luck he'll probably end up to be a gem for them!

Interview from the website:

On signing the deal, Ryan said:

“Obviously I’m delighted to get the deal done. I found out a couple of weeks ago that the Club was interested and I knew right away that it was a move that could be perfect for me. I had a chat with my family and friends and the decision was pretty easy from there to be honest.

“I’ve been at Dunfermline for a long time now and I’m ready for a fresh break and a new challenge and I really think this move could be the making of me. Everything about the club excites me, there’s plenty of ambition here and I think it is a fantastic place for me to really kick on. I honestly can’t wait to get started.”

Ryan will wear the number two for Partick Thistle.

C'mon Ye Pars!

I'll remember his goal celebrations for a long time, he was absolutely loving it. Up there with Cardle and Gibson in the past few tears for getting me off my seat. Hope the guy pulls a Byrne and really progresses on away from this club.

Serious question, when was the last time we had a young player that actually pished on at the club? We seem to have a terrible habit of never really producing many solid players and those that do have to leave the club to push on. Nicky Phinn maybe being the best player with us that I can recall.

Byrne I’ll give you. Still wouldn’t have Spence back at the pars. Scougall was hardly “chased” away, he left at a very young age and seemed to be a player before dropping back down to the Scottish leagues. Williamson needs ALOT of coaching to be a top (Scottish) Level right back.

Given that Scougall never played a game for us it's a strange one to include in the other list.

Anyway, a fit Lewis Martin is a better full back than Ryan Williamson. Good luck to him all the same.

Ryan is a top lad. He came back to win a place in the starting line up after two horrific injuries in quick succession - a dislocated knee and a double leg break. Many a lesser person might have buckled after that but he showed real character.

I wish him well in Maryhill, except v the Pars, of course.

Boys like Byrne were getting slaughtered on here week in week out and it hasn’t been until he’s moved away most fans would love to have him in our team right now. Williamson got it stinking from fans to , why don’t we encourage our young players instead of giving so much abuse. I bet most young players at the club check these forums and will be gutted to see the abuse they get

Really good luck, he was effectively injured for best part of 2 seasons at an age when players absolutely need to play 1st team to make a career-otherwise,they bounce about on short term contracts at best- this held him back badly, and I hope he gets it back. I'm convinced that if he wasn't injured he would be playing at a higher level. And he may well, I really hope he does, he may/may not-this is the crapshoot that is lower level football.

he seems really committed, and a decent guy too-but he needs a new club to kick on, and , yes, I hope he absolutely does it-he basically is chasing the lost years.

Will be interesting to see the impact he has at another club, wonder where they will play him? Ie wing back or right back.

If they can somehow inject some aggression and fight into him maybe he can make it at this level.

If he continues to hesitate and pull out of the physical side of the game then it will only go one way for him there, he won’t get the goodwill he got here for coming through the ranks that’s for sure.

It is interesting how we haven't really produced any young players recently with any sell on value, or that have went on to become valued first team players here. They normally have to move on to flourish. If you look at Shaun Byrne, Jordan White, Scott Mercer, Kevin McHattie, Lewis Spence and Millen, they have all had to move away before they realised their potential. What are we doing wrong?

Good luck to him. He has weighed up his options and moved on. I wish him the very best of luck in his future career. I recall Alan Evans broke his leg and went onto becoming one of Aston Villas all time greats. He even scored a hatrick against Liverpool. I dont think Ryans previous break will be a barrier to him. I suspect he will go on to have a very successful career. He has been loyal to the club for a few years so i wish him every success.

not keeping them long enough? you cant keep every player for 5, 6, 7+ years just in case they might come good at the end of that. I cant think of 1 youth player that was released that was the wrong decision at that time, what they've gone on to do in however many years since that does not change the fact it was the right decision to let them go.

"It played a major part. He was growing to detest it here, partly because of the atmosphere and the constant stick"

im led to believe the incident ironically at Firhill was the major part but no matter, hes moved on, the club already have with the signing of Comrie.

Always liked Ryan. I will never forget the night he broke his leg. I'm the crack echoed around the ground and I remember coming home not caring about the result. He was progressing well and was usually involved in the more positive moves. I also worried at the time that he wouldn't be the same player if/when he recovered. All the best Ryan.

All the best to him, a lovely guy and a great servant to the Pars. I still don't get it mind you as I just don't see a player in him and certainly don't think he's good enough for this level. Hope I'm proved wrong and he kicks on but I just don't see it, never did to be honest, for a defender who can't tackle, header a ball or position himself correctly he's done well to get a 2 year deal at Partick, he has age on his side though and he's keen as mustard so who knows. Hopefully onwards and upwards for both parties.

Probably best for both parties that he moves on. The writing was pretty much on the wall when Craigan was filling in at RB for large parts of last season.
Despite that there is definitely a player there and if Patrick can get his confidence up then he should do well. He is suspect defensively but he was also great to watch when he was in full flow on the right wing.
All the best Ryan.

Good luck to Ryan - always liked him but the truth is I worried when he was in the team this season.

Who are all these youngsters who have done so well elsewhere?
Byrne is the exception not the rule;
Spence - a very surprising signing for Dundee - soon found out and shipped out to Ross County - started off in the team but soon found out and not now getting a game - I hope he doesn’t end up back here.
Ross Millen - really?? Left us and struggled at both Livingston and Clyde before doing ok at Queen’s Park - surprisingly signed by Kilmarnock but miles away from a first team regular - wouldn’t want him back either.
Jordan White - having the most successful season of his career but still slated by the Inverness fans - this is his tenth club since leaving us - hardly strong evidence that we were wrong to let him go.

The fact is Ryan’s defending hasn’t improved and he seems to have lacked confidence since his last injury. I may very well be proved wrong but I’ll be surprised if he’s Thistle’s first choice full back this time next year.

Can be a cliche to say 'never the same after an injury' but i think that was the case here.

Never looked entirely committed to a big 50/50 or crunching tackle post injury and that's not a criticism i can fully understand why.

Saw a few good performances when he was in 442 with Higgy in front of him but other than that i think his development seems to have went backwards in the past year or two.

Good luck to him, hope it works out well.

Anyone that didn’t recognise the potential in Ryan should really stay away from the game. He has went backwards after an extremely poor season but he was one of the best players the seasons before. He absolutely destroyed hearts in the league cup tie at Tynecastle to such an extent that a few Premier league teams were looking at him. Sadly, he never regained his form. Hopefully he kicks on at Hearts.

A series of managers at club and international level have seen his quality, but some fans can only see his flaws, which is a bit sad.

All the best to by all accounts a decent young lad.

It seems only local lads get their flaws enhanced and perpetually monitored by the Pars support.

The fact we haven't had a single success story, unless I'm mistaken, in terms of youth development is really interesting. Clearly a few factors at play.

There's definitely a player in there and I wish him all the best.

Ryan obviously benefitted when the team was on the front foot. When we were playing well he was an important part of the side. 2017/18 we were complaining that sometimes his final ball let him down . We weren’t even saying that last season. I hope the lad kicks on. He was selected for Scotland u21s so he was rated. International recognition. Although Danny Devine has 2 N.Ireland U21 caps.

Aye because words on an Internet forum will really chase someone out the door eh? Iv seen Lewis Martin have far more howlers than Ryan Williamson and be slated for it on here but he’s still here so the slagging on here has know bearing on players leaving and for what it’s worth I knew after speaking to him halfway through the season that he was off “long before the carry on at firhill might I add”

For me, some of our fans speak about Williamson as if he’s still a young boy. He’s 23 years old now and has played over 130 games for us. In footballing terms, that’s not young anymore. The same fans are happy to publicly slate Lewis Martin, who’s the same age. Hippolyte was only 23 when he signed (and is 24 now) and has received a lot more abuse than Williamson, where’s the consistency with these guys suggesting Williamson’s age should make him immune from being treated like every other first team player? J Longridge was 23 when he signed and Joe Thomson’s just turned 22. Why should Williamson be given more slack than his teammates of a similar age?

Some fans understandably got frustrated, that when he was 21/22/23, he was still making the same mistakes he was at 17/18 and wasn’t learning from them. I don’t see an issue with that. Football fans are passionate all over the world and will moan when players are repeatedly putting in poor performances and making the same mistakes again and again. This could be a confidence thing, he was clearly struggling.

I also think there was more frustration in this one, because everyone could see he had so much talent and he was failing to fulfil that here. He worked under 4 different managers at the club and none of them seemed to be the right fit, to help him progress. Hopefully this change of environment will help him fulfil his potential.

If that is how you see it, whoever is in charge at Patrick must have poor knowledge of what they see in a football player.

Ryan was one of the few players we had who could bring a bit of excitement imo.

But each to their own. He certainly found a new team in quick time, whatever any of us think.

That’s not quite how it works Mach1, we brought in Devine and hippo on 2 year deals last season. It didn’t mean that who was in charge had the knowledge of what makes a footballer......

He could bring excitement to the team and go past players but that wasn’t last season. Does okay when carried in a team doing well but when it’s time to stand up and be counted he’s the nervous 17 year old again.

We can agree to disagree, i’m sure we’ll both be watching how he does next year! I hope there’s a few new players who can bring excitement to the team next year!

Just sitting here drenched in my own positivity! AJ is gone!

Difference is you'll be watching how he does and praying that he fails.

Best of luck to the lad. He came back from 2 bad injuries and is a nice lad but but the bottom line is this:

Defending was not his strong point, neither was heading a ball and his crossing was often poor. He couldn't shoot either. He could run and go past players but you need a lot more than that from a full back. He hasn't really developed from the early potential he showed. I think it is right he moves on but personally, I think he may struggle to get in the Partick team next season.

Has a great natural ability to beat a man, but that's really his only stand-out skill. Any improvement he made since he started playing in the first team is very slight.

Always infuriated me that a man with his height wouldn't work on heading a ball, that's an advantage he had over others that he just never used. We'd have a corner and he'd be back on the halfway line.

And he absolutely doesn't have a shot on him.

Those are two things that are invaluable to a professional football player, but he never seemed to get better at them even slightly.

Best of luck to him though, maybe he'll kick on at Partick, we might even see him back one day.

He was like a giraffe running down the wing.
