 Transfer thread
Topic Originator: widtink
Date:   Thu 2 May 10:33

Thought I'd start a thread where everyone can post all the comings and goings of players in Scotland.
There's been a few already but I thought I'd attempt to keep them all in one handy thread now that the silly season is nearly upon us.
Enjoy.

Daily record sport is reporting (take with a pinch of salt) that St Johnstone will offer Alston a new deal amid interest from Hamilton and Dundee. Also Jack Iredale (Morton LB who I've been impressed with) has signed for Carlisle United. Good to see some championship teams losing good players. I certainly think Morton, Ayr and Inverness could all be worse off next season with player departures. Scott McDonald is also rumoured to be off to sign for an A-league team in Australia (same team that tried to sign Scott brown) so that weakens thistle at least

folk on this forum absolutely love wetting knickers about ex players from 10 years ago who they have seen about once since they left us.

Woods has played 22 games in 3 years. Imagine the meltdown if he signed and played his 6 game a season average into a 4th year? Yes good for us and a great guy but I'd rather we look at the model we got Woods from in the first place. Released EPL academy players with decent resell potential rather than a sentimental signing that's at tail end of career.

Jack McMillan - Partick Thistle on loan from Livingston
Steven Anderson - Partick Thistle on loan from St Johnstone
Sam Roscoe - Alloa Athletic on loan from Aberdeen

Keetings doesn’t fit the young player strategy described yesterday. He’s constantly injured but has always looked a decent player when fit.
Anderson is also 33, 34 later this year.

2 year deal with St Johnstone who then loaned him out suggesting he was surplus to demands. Not therefore beyond the realms of possibility that they would mutually terminate

Partick Thistle can confirm that, in addition to Kris Doolan, Souleymane Coulibaly, Lee Duncanson, Antony Eadie, Niall Keown, Aaron Lennox, Andy McCarthy, Alistair Roy and Miles Storey will not be offered new contracts by the Club.

Would definitely take the boy Storey! Potentially Hints that Joe Cardle has been offered a new deal too.

Anderson in terms of an experienced head, a "mentoring" role I think was a term used in the Press would fit the bill but on the playing side? first team ive got doubts, if it was mainly for the reserves like Dargo did a few years ago possibly but we cant afford that surely.

I think Crawford will find it extremely difficult to attract players to the club ,bearing in mind his style of play and the shortage of funds
Sacrificed attack for defence and still couldn't keep a clean sheet.

Why on earth are people suggesting Doolan? Brutal shout.

There's not a single player we should be signing from any club who's not been a offered a contract from a non promoted side.

Every club will be wanting promotion, they've made a decision that these players aren't good enough for that, we in turn are then wanting to sign them?!

He may not be some exciting young player but could he honestly make the team any worse given what we've viewed this season.

He'd offer more than Muirhead has.

My expectations are so low now and going by the chairman's statement we probably can't afford him anyway.

Why on earth would we need a player with that record? He's got a massive affiliation with Partick, do you not think if he was worth keeping him they would've?

He would've been our top goalscorer last season with that record.

No signings for us as yet, let’s hope we don’t repeat last summers last minute bargain hunt.

Bannockburn Par,

It will be a bargain hunt no doubt purely on the basis of avoiding the payment
of salaries during the close season,

I reckon two or three "stalwarts/journeymen" with the rest being a combination out of contract youngsters and U20 reserves on loan for the experience.

If we can get a couple of BMMMH's and Adam Hammil's then we might be OK.

Personally, I think we will struggle to recruit - so hopefully our youth squad will provide.

Jesus saves, but Kirk nets rebound

Totally agree Bigfoot, going to be middle of June before we see new arrivals. It will be lower league players coming in with maybe 1-2 experienced players. Long season ahead with us flirting with relegation.

I think the statement from Chairman has written off next season, young hungry players, everyone is looking for these. To win league or even get to play offs needs more than that. The new management team has questions marks given poor end to season, would be pleasantly surprised if we are anywhere close to a play off spot (promotion next season)

"No signings for us as yet, let’s hope we don’t repeat last summers last minute bargain hunt"
"going to be middle of June before we see new arrivals"

perfect timing for the start of preseason then.
as for last summer, excluding the deadline day signings the majority were signed by the end of the first week of preseason, hardly last minute.

right now to suggest next season is a write off, relegation on the cards etc is way over the top but not a surprise on here.

The club has no money. Unless the club can conjure up someone from within, I suspect we wont see a natural goalscorer for some time. Nicky Clark will be our last for a while. Perhaps there should be a focus on generating goals from different areas of the park. More time on the practice ground maybe. Not sure how many goals we got from corners this season for example or midfield.

I was speaking to a Partick fan today who told me that Doolan has some kind of injury which means he struggles to last a full game these days, thus the reason he didn't figure that much for Partick last season. If that is the case, reckon we should stay clear.

I saw Liam Brown a couple of times as a 17 year old playing for Queen’s Park - a real talent who probably moved on too quickly - might not be ready to go straight into the first team but I’d be excited about him for the future - real talent with a bit of swagger and cockiness about him - he could quickly become a fans favourite 👍👍

Like what's been said sc is looking for players that want to play football, young hungry players that's not going to break our budgets. Before everyone goes on about, thinking sbout there family's and getting as much as they can, by all means do that, at the end of the day every man has a price, and if they are not happy with what's being offered here then am happy to see them go else where

certainly lots of names being linked!

did Crawford say anything about loan deals at the meeting the other week? we would be looking in that market or not at all?

Lots of professions tell you the wage/salary before interview...if not happy with it dont turn up.... thing is sc will have max salaries in mind so hopefully the room for negotiation is minimal. I think it might be a case of take it or leave it. I dare say signing players from lower leagues or part time clubs the offer we have will be significantly higher than they were on. Plus the year deals we give out it they stand out they will move on to maybe a higher wage next season.

Football isn't one of those professions, thought that was obvious. How many years contract, salary, any clauses inserted in for goal bonus, clean sheet bonus, impact on promotion/relegation. It isn't a straight forward 9-5 job these players are going for and considering careers of footballers are relatively short they're entitled to negotiate. Also one of the reasons why players have agents.

There were a handful of players last season on £800-950pw. Thankfully all of them are now gone. We'll be very tight with money this season to ensure we don't have another loss. Cheap lower league players is what we're after for the most part with 2-3 experienced Premiership/Championship players added into the mix to lead the youngsters.

Says in Daily record online we bid twice for Euan Murray of Raith? I don't read all the forum posts but is anyone aware of this? Must be fancying him if not only the record are telling us but we tried to pay money twice (not just a bid but an increased bid! )

Just wondered if anyone knows. Article says livvy Dundee and Peterborough in for him too so probably not going to happen.

Lessons learnt ! Blew it with McGinn last season .Also different manager Good to see our best players staying in Scotland .But for his own benifit I thought he would have followed the example of Robertson and McGinn heading South playing against higher level and quality of player .Anyway good luck to the lad .

That's interesting. Norwich were happy to loan us a 20 year-old winger to get some game time but are prepared to pay £300k for an 18 year-old winger from the same league.

To be fair, Norwich seem to be more appreciative of Scottish football than some English clubs. They loaned James Maddison to Aberdeen a few seasons ago then sold him to Leicester for a big fee then bought Kenny McLean from Aberdeen.

Would definitely take DKD, I remember the game we lost at EEP. I think he came on for Falkirk at around 60-70 mins and completely changed the game in their favour. He's fast and tricky and has good technical ability. Also young and has something to prove, so would fit the club's transfer policy

Did he even manage to be impressive for a full season? Don’t think he was brilliant in 2019. I’m sure since Anderson joined us, they had the same amount of championship goals. Thought he looked bang average when I saw him play, other than the game at the start of the season, when they hammered us.

If United sign Shankland, could Clark be on his way to Queens? Can’t see them both fitting into the same team!

Whereas imho El Alagui looked like a player but was just completely off the pace.

Unlikely that our coaches at the time, would have been able to develop him any better than Celtics could have. He has had some loan spells, so maybe a drop down to get some regular first team games will help him kick on

Why do you think that?"

Because I can't think of a young player that's developed at the club in twenty years

We haven't had any good enough to attract Celtic's interest either. PJ Crossan was a better prospect than most.

I'd be surprised if he moved on loan, pretty sure he is still utilised in the Ross County squad. Also would he really take the step down to league one when he's been promoted the the premiership? Sounds a bit iffy to me but then again I was surprised to see Sammon drop to that level so who knows

Perhaps Falkirk are thinking that if they invest heavily they will win game after game. This would encourage their part time fans to come back and hereby swelling their crowd, which in turn will help their funds.

If this is true, McManus must have a good agent. He had a good contract at Fleetwood but spent most of it on loan at a lower level, getting a game whilst picking up better wages than his team-mates presumably. Has he still got a house in the toon?

Would have taken McManus back at us. Can’t believe he’s signed for Falkirk. I would imagine most Championship clubs would have taken him.

I like McManus but he’s an absolute jobber. Plays for a different club every season.

Some signing for Falkirk, can't believe he's agreed to drop to that level. I imagine it's a case of Falkirk willing to pay his entire wage off of County. If Falkirk don't manage to win League 1 with Tidser, Mcmanus, Sammon and Telfer they never will 😂

Looks like his season here was closer to the rule and St mirren season the exception.

Always wondered why Dundee let him go a few seasons back.
Scored a decent amount of goals for them if memory serves

Fraser Fyvie has finally joined Cove Rangers. I think this was anticipated on here almost as soon as the transfer window opened.

Broque Watson, who was on trial with us recently, has joined Annan Athletic.
