 A Lack Of Fizz!

After the recent genuine excitement of the Betfred League Cup draw and announcement of the League fixtures; we are about to have the Irn BRu Cup draw.

Neil Doncaster says "it is immensely popular among the fans".The average Gate 2018/19 was 660."It would be revived by the prospect of Colt teams".389 watched Dumbarton v Rangers. He said "the involvement of clubs from the other 3 UK Nations and Eire would add to the excitement".It has grown with all the popularity of knotweed.

Tell that to East Fife, who flew to meet Bohemians, who couldn't fit in a postponement and conceded.Tell that to Peterhead, who faced crippling Police charges against that same club.

Yes a lot of Pars Fans enjoyed the jaunt to Boreham Wood, which was a rare opportunity for Pars Fans in England and Wales to get to a nearer game.We provided 575 of the 1001 Fans.Just how much did that cost our club?

Championship clubs watched in anguish as £100k of much needed Scottish Football income haemorrhaged out of Scotland. The greatest tragedy is that this began as a great competition for little clubs.Stenhousemuir called their triumph in 1995 "The Greatest Day In Their History".Today ,with 58 clubs, the wee clubs have little chance. Why are we forced into this money losing nonsense?

Hope we get a good away trip like Borehamwood last year, almost 1000 Pars fans made that trip, just shows the competition does have something.

If the likes of Irn Bru invested an appropriate sponsorship sum, I would agree.

However, over the years,B and Q,Bells,Alba,Petrofac,Ramsdens and others have failed to do that.

There is a new danger.A Scottish Football competition could be played outwith Scotland on Cup Final Day. I wonder if Irn Bru would hope for that scenario for commercial reasons.

A number of Fans have posted comments, this close season ,on the indefensible share of the cake Championship clubs receive.

Irn Bru offer crumbs.

Clearly ,Championship clubs are not being consulted.

The SPFL Competitions Working Group need to engage with them.Or they should resign.

Looks like the are changes afoot based on a thread on Pie and Bovril.

Round 1 - 4 for Highland League, 4 from Lowland League, 4 bottom teams from League Two plus 12 Premiership colts

Round 2 - 12 winners from Round 1 plus other 6 clubs from League Two and all 10 from League One.

Round 3 - 14 winners from Round 2 plus all 10 Championship teams (so we enter here), 2 from Ireland (Waterford, Bohemians), 2 from Northern Ireland (Linfield, Ballymena), 2 from Wales (TNS, Connah's Quay) and 2 from the National League (Wrexham and Solihull Moors).

Round 4, Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Final to follow. No word on sponsor, travelling expenses, etc.

If confirmed,those changes are encouraging.

Though with a turnover of £279m, Irn Bru are in a position to agree a more realistic sponsorship deal.
