Been a really enjoyable 1st half . Japan well worth their equaliser.
No coincidence that there has been no technology interruptions to spoil the game !

Japan play a lot of good footbal but can't score.

Unlucky to be behind last minute too, no way could the Japanese player get her arm out the way

She was booked for that as well.

It's absolutely crazy that you get booked for an accidental handball.

The new handball rule is utterly abysmal - badly conceived and distorted by slow motion replays.

A penalty (and likely goal) is far too harsh a punishment for the majority of handball decisions I've seen given in this world cup and it's ruining the spectacle.

Perhaps a sensible solution could be the introduction of a hockey like 'penalty corner' for every time the ball hits a hand in the box - that would remove the debate, keep handball as an offence, and still provide the attacking team a chance to score, without it being a 'gimme'.

I'm not sure what the 'penalty corner' equivalent would look like - perhaps a free kick from 25 yards out with no wall allowed or something?

Hi Bandy,

Maybe we are starting to sound a bit like the late Jimmy Hill, but I think your suggestion is a good one. Jimmy Hill did have some good ideas in his time after all.

For ‘last man’ tackles outside the area that are fouls and for dubious hand balls inside the area award a free kick to be taken anywhere inside the ‘D.’ Probably better not to make it a free shot at goal as the conversion rate would be very low indeed; the advantage of a free kick is that the goalkeeper can be unsighted.

A free kick inside the D with a wall there is a hard skill to get it up and down-would be much easier to score a free shot. If it wasn't then keepers wouldn't have walls at all.In some ways it's easier to score a free-kick from 25 yards than 18.
