Would it not have made sense to play some of the fringe first team youngsters tonight to get more game time rather than limited game time against Hibs, McGill, Todd, Morrison, Gill and maybe a couple of others.

Think the plan is to get those guys their additional game time against Kelty.

This was a bit disappointing, although with hindsight, maybe not so surprising. Very few positives (other than game time against superior opposition). Quinn Coulston who came on as sub caught the eye a little (I think we was with Celtic as a 9 year old) but not much apart from that.

It was pretty much one-way traffic in the first half, but I thought we were going to hold out until they scored from a corner 90 seconds into injury time.

We then gifted 2 goals in the first 3 minutes or so in the second half, and a fourth goal on the break right on time when we were up for a corner.

I was interested in Greg Shields’ comments. Agreed, it was men against boys, but I’m a bit confused at the “play it out from the back” instructions. I thought the idea was to play it out, keep possession, and if nothing is on, go back and start again. We did that, and twice we got caught and gave away goals. I’m pretty sure the first team won’t do that – they’ll hit it long (and give away possession, but not a goal). Possibly the issue is with the midfield not being able to receive the ball.

I was thinking that if you look at the experience of Championship “Colt” teams in the Challenge Cup, they have struggled to make much of an impact, so could be argued to be on a par with tier 5 clubs. Championship colts (i.e. us) might then be on a par with tier 6. CSS are a pretty decent team at Lowland level – not far short of Spartans and Kelty, so I guess the result was not surprising.

I did think £6 to get in for a pre-season game against a reserve team was a little stuff.
