Slightly worrying about that bench, not many options on it if that’s what we are taking into the season

So ended up biting the bullet and forking out the £15, been a while since my last game and wanted to see the team in action.

No surprises, poor crowd all round, especially the Pars, think I can count the amount of folk in the Norrie McCathie from the main stand.

Very young bench & inexperienced bench which is still better than having Danny Devine on it. Be good to see some of the younger ones come one against hibs, will be a big season for McCann, Todd and Morrison I think.

Waste of time opening the Norrie. Main stand looks empty aswell, maybe 300 at a push.

£10 n £5, would of doubled the crowd. Fact.

I for one haven't forked out the £15 to watch us play a warm up game.

Decent crowd at both ends and in main stand, I think, even at the prices. Surprised at above comments about crowd.

However, really disappointed about the clash of strips - not nearly enough distinction between them, particularly for anyone with visual problems. Looking down the length of the pitch is particularly difficult.

Hibs fans have turned out in good number. Certainly increased in the last 15mins from when I posted originally.

Still think very light on Pars fans.

Anyway, Martin doing well at left back.

Think the Pars crowd is relatively poor.

Dunfermline named two trialists but purely due to registrations not being complete. Josh Coley on loan from Norwich City starts and young Matty Bowman was on the bench.

It's a typical friendly but some good points.

Murray looks solid at the back.
Martin looking good at left back.
Coley I think could be a real find.
Dow doing well in midfield
Paton I think will be a hidden gem for us
Ryan getting in on a lot of plays.

Only one who hasn't really done much for me is Nisbet.

Me Likey!

So far so good, having to absorb a lot of pressure but doing it well. Cutting out good opportunity’s going down the flanks. Martin looks good at LB. A bit more composure on the ball required but good to see a Pars team who are up for it.

Really pleased with the first half display, it’s just as we have been promised, young hungry players plying for the jersey, out from the back and no little skill on display

Looking forward to the competitive action starting

Decent enough game for a friendly. A good test for the new Pars side.

Overall, our back four is pretty strong with Murray and Martin standing out. Scully has made two very good saves and seems to be varying his distribution more than last season.

We are pressing and blocking quite well and Paton is spreading play very effectively through the midfield. Coley started well, but seems to have gone quiet since switching wings with Dow, who has moved left.

Up front, Ryan looks more confident now that he seems to have become the first choice. Nisbet has been a bit hot and cold though he came close with a header just before half time. A very well worked goal by Murray from a Ryan cross.

After about half an hour, Hibs seemed to pick up their tempo and look the more threatening going forward. It has an entertaining game so far.

Best teams have a balance between youth and experience. Seems we played ok with what must be considered a close to first choice eleven for 45 mins. Second half was always going to be a bit of a lottery. Do agree that we need another experienced player in though . Paton can’t be relied on to play every game.

I wouldn't describe the team as "weak throughout". Considering the number of substitutions this could only be considered a run-out and a trial for the season ahead. Actually, I thought there were some quite encouraging signs. Not too much of the long punt; some quite constructive build-up play and passing in midfield; and some reasonably incisive play up front against - we shouldn't forget - a better quality team. What worries me a little is some careless play out of defence (we escaped on a couple of occasions) and a possible lack of real quality and speed up front which may mean that goals will be hard to find. Not a disaster though. Onwards and upwards.

Crowd? Very good turnout from Hibees who nearly filled the away stand, but the Norrie and the main looked pretty sparse. Can't see the NW from the Pars TV viewpoint. Maybe 2,500-3,000?

Think the team in first half we're good. Never going to keep any kind of momentum with the number of changes we made, and the amount of inexperience in the squad. Think we'll be ok this season

Think that's incredibly harsh. First half we did very well considering we were up against Hibs.

Second half we made a lot of changes and brought the youngsters on.

We may not have the depth in the squad that we need but certainly not weak throughout.

I think the players look lightweight compared to Hibs. Some good touches from Coley but some players pushed off the ball too easily. Definitely some experienced players needed to bolster the squad but we can only go with what we get.

The number of substitutions after the hour mark made it very difficult to assess the team performance as a whole, but up to that point, I thought we did pretty well. Of the substitutes, Turner, Allan and McCann stood out. Lang looked composed early on, but let himself down with a couple of careless touches. He looked solid enough otherwise.

Young Bowman looked a little bit out of his depth, but remember that this is a young kid playing his first match against a seasoned top league team. Ashcroft had to move out right to cover for the youngster and that left us exposed in the centre allowing Hibs to score. Ashcroft was also responsible for the penalty, so he is the player who comes out of this match with the biggest question marks I am afraid.

But overall, there were a lot more positives than negatives to take from this game. While inexperience is bound to be a factor, it is clear that there are skills aplenty in this squad. I don't think that watching the Pars will be as frustrating and painful an experience as it was last season.

Our potential starting 11 did well I thought. Hibs has more strength on the bench so when we were using second string, they brought on Kamberi, Horgan and the like.

Ashcroft was woeful in the second half, but how much of that was losing Murray and having Lang next to him instead. Felt for the young lad at right back who got schooled a bit against guys clearly a couple of stone heavier and stronger.

First half I thought we were excellent. Moved the ball efficiently, the only negative was ashcroft who made 2-3 catastrophic errors. You can't take too much from when the kids came on, I thought Turner, McGill, McCann all look promising. Definitely need another winger, Coley looks promising if a bit raw, he'll definitely give people problems with his pace. Dow gets some good crosses in and can play either wing comfortably. Nisbet and Ryan linked pretty well. Beadling and Paton strolled the first half imo in the centre and were able to dictate play. Comrie looks much more composed than Williamson when he's on the ball and looks a decent acquisition. Lang was fine, maybe got caught out a couple times with poor touches but no howlers. Of the news boys though I thought Murray was MotM, making some good clearances and passing the ball well. As I say it's hard to read too much into it in a friendly but our first team did well against what Hibs had to throw at us

Well as others have said the same old mistakes from Ashcroft
He never seems to learn anything from the mistakes he makes , I also do not see him helping the new young players around him , more likely they will help him
I really do not rate him !!
I hope i am wrong but for me his a liability , drop him and play Lang & Murray together might be a better option
Ok apart from him Nisbet looked ordinary in fact he looks unfit and for his shooting today it was powder puff , In fact I think there is more strength in the bovril from Stephens
Murray was a stand out for me , Coley looks an asset for us , Paton and Dow did fine , good to see Martin doing well and so did everyone else they tried their best and will only get better as they Gel at times we played some nice football (probably saw more football today than the whole of last season) also in fact if we can get another out and out winger we might just do Ok
we are a wee bit light weight and can probably do with another experienced play maker but from what i saw today at least it gave me some Hope

Early days. Lots to build on. The main thing is that the potential is there and the team will get better over time. This is a good Hibs team who will finish in the top 5 next season. There are a number of clubs in the championship who will be fielding younger teams so I am sure we will have a good season.

Loved the game today and a promising performance against Hibs. First half was definitely a step up from anything we witnessed last season. Can’t wait for the competitive games to start. I was indeed at the game and first half I thought we were very impressive but need to bear in mind it was just a friendly so whether this would carry into competitive games we'll soon see.

Ashcroft was poor throughout the game. Bowman in his short spell just looked out his depth against a more experienced Hibs.

Lang, some nice touches on the ball but defensively a little suspect for me.

Nisbet just couldn't get into the game.

Murray and Martin were the standouts for me.

Surely you realise that in a real game it's likely most of who put in the first half performance would have seen out the match.
You're practically gumming for negatives at this point.

So you were at the game and watched it on pars TV as well, as shown on the pars TV thread. I think you are a st, and I don't mean season ticket.

Why do I need to do both to comment on it?

I was at the Hibs game yes but used ParsTV before, Forfar most recently which was poor but in fairness signal at Forfar would've been rotten.

In that thread I didn't once comment on any issue i specifically had. All I read was constant comments about the stream not working and it annoyed me a little when Brian tried to justify it by saying it only cut out twice. In another thread that ThaiPar I think created, it was mentioned they were wanting £125 for the privilege going forward. If you're paying that amount of money it should not be on the basis of accepting that it will cut out a few times, that's still a fair bit of dosh.

Theres 65 posts on that thread now, similar experiences from last season has been mentioned. I'm not being critical of the work and effort that goes into it and hope nobody takes it personally but the reality is there needs to be acknowledgement that there are issues and they need to be addressed and not swept under the carpet.

I have no doubts Brian and co are working hard fixing it based on recent posts and apologies if I've offended anybody.
