Outstanding first half from the DA.

Dow definitely man of the half so far. Great runs down the right wing. Nesbit nearly had goal of the season of the cross bar.

Had dotnet been down or something?

Anyway, thought Dundee were just starting to dominate before we scored but after that it was all Dunfermline and we should have had a couple more. No idea what Dow (I think?) was trying to do at the penalty - just head it out for a corner or something. Even if he had brought it down it was in the danger zone. Impressed with Nisbet and McCann, and we're getting joy down both flanks. Dundee's defence looks all over the shop and Hamilton has never convinced me in goals. This is a massive 15 minutes for Crawford. He'll need to get the players heads up and remind them how well they've played in the first 45.

Sick timing though. If Nesbits went in rather than hitting the bar ...3-0 but 2-1 it is. Lets see how our youngsters cope with that sickener.

We need another couple of players in just lacking a wee bit of quality. Paton needs to push out, he’s sitting too deep and beadling getting swamped.

the 2 non penalties changed the game. Ok McPake changed Dundee's formation 2nd half but a 2-0 we were in total control. Yes the ball hit Dow's arm but it hit his arm he didn't move his arm towards the ball. It wasn't deliberate. Same as when the ball hit the Dundee players arm - it wasn't deliberate but it hit his arm...but that wasn't a penalty. Ashcroft also won the ball - no foul never a penalty. We never have a ref having a shocker in our favour

Todd and McCann looking a bit lightweight. Good to see them getting involved but not the same standard as the others.

Take a point and run, non existent second half, totally ran out of steam, Dundee changed it and look to get something and we don’t have the personnel so hanging on.

First pen was a penalty imo, Dow had his hand out. Second however is an absolutely abysmal decision. We also had a shout with McGhee at the start of the second half by the ref's decision. Overall, as we've seen with the cup, great first half, second half we really can't keep up the intensity past 60 mins. We really need another two in imo, a winger and a CM. I would've taken a draw beforehand so not the worst result, just hard to take because of the ref

How on earth did we surrender? Absolute tosh. Dundee had nothing most of the game even in that second half.

Penalty no.1, i thought it was incredibly harsh but penalty no.2 was scandalous and amateur refereeing.

Playing a bit more defensive isn't surrendering, and aside from those scandalous decisions they did a pretty damn good job.

Grant headbutting the keyboard and hoping for the best I see.

Excellent first half, fine margins with a 3-0/2-1 swing in a matter of minutes.

We're clearly a bit lightweight and inexperienced but that will come in time. I'd take that every week from the lads. Endeavour, creativity, goals and I'd accept us finishing anywhere bar relegation while we build a new team over the years.

Yes, a pattern has definitely developed here. First 60 minutes we play at high intensity, baffling and confusing the opposition with speedy interplays. The last 30, we turn the gas right down, let the opposition increasingly dominate while we hang on desperately for the final whistle.

I do think that Paton and Beadling needed a breather after an hour an don't think our game in the middle of the park can be kept going for 90 minutes with the same 2 players. 1st half was superb entertainment.

It's a tricky one to fix, the boys are fit, anyone going at that pace for 45mins are going to knackered themselves so you could be looking to ask them to pace themselves a bit....but if they did that we might not have gone 2-0 up and these are young lads, don't want to hold them back when they are so eager.

Like I say, and i include the St Mirren game, defensively I thought we were really solid and the goals we've conceded have a GK error, deflection and two penalties...one of which categorically was the wrong decision.

The first one, if that was a Dundee player I'd be calling for it...but still harsh.

Obviously gutted by the result but delighted by the performance by the players and support by the fans.

Thought we played exceptionally well.

Nisbet is a superb striker. Set one goal up, scored another and nearly had goal of the season in the first league game.

Obviously this game may be dominated by some dodgy Dundee supporting referee but let's give our lads some credit.

The first was a penalty, its as simple as that, no debating it.

In the second half it was inevitable that we'd drop deeper and we wouldn't be able to pressurise as much, after the exertion of the first half it was inevitable. However the subs and the way we were set up only magnified this, we dropped deeper, gave the Dundee midfield more time and space the end result was them having all the time in the world to pick that pass for the penalty, was it a penalty? Absolutely not. Am I shocked the referee has given it? Not at all, stick your leg in like that and you can't be surprised that the ref has thought Ashcroft has caught him.

Nisbet is actually very, very good at playing that lone striker role but the lack of support for him in the second half of the second half was awful.

Yeah Dow had has hand out but didn't move it towards the ball. If that's what's going to be judged a penalty then put yer mortgage on Tavernier getting more than 20 goals this season for Sevco.
1st game of the new season and the already the main talking point of what was a good game is the referee.

This is where we really miss Joe Thomson. If he could come on as a sub for Paton around the 60-minute mark and adopt the attacking midfield role, it would take a lot of pressure off Beadling.

What could Dow have realistically had done differently? I'm not disputing the penalty but it is harsh, he didn't make himself bigger, it wasn't deliberate, his arms were by his side, possibly little out there but no ones arms are strictly bang on their sides during a game...

Second was just the wrong decision it shouldn't matter how he goes for the ball providing it's legal and he gets his foot on it, which he clearly did.

I referred to it in another thread but I really think our bench is going to be a real issue for us. We don't have a strong one, no game changers or real experience. As much as Allan did ok when he came on, in the long run we need better options.

I would've probably taken a point at the start of the game but it stings with how it ended up happening.

Referee was just itching to give Dundee the benefit of the doubt all game, not just the penalties but smartly booking both our battlers Ashcroft and Beadling in the first half.

Some good players this season in the team I'm looking forward to seeing more games.

Awful refereeing display. Both pens were bordering on farcical.
Proud of that display tonight, especially first half, that was excellent and we should have been 3 or 4 up, the penalty absolutely killed any momentum we had and it was a tough watch for alot of that second half although for all their possession I don't remember Dundee having many chances in the 2nd Half.
Definitely reasons to be cheerful and after that downed tools end to last season that was really refreshing tonight. Keep it up Pars.

If Dows is a penalty then we should have had a penalty in the second half.
There was a time in first half when ball went out and the linesman just stared at the ref for about 15 seconds, the standard of officiating is disgraceful

The thing with handball in the second half was that the player didnt move towards the ball either... He was trying to grab a hold of the Pars player!

"Yes the ball hit Dow's arm but it hit his arm he didn't move his arm towards the ball. It wasn't deliberate."

Doesn't have to be, never really had to but the new handball rules leave no doubt.

I know McPake would have read the riot act at half time and he changed things around but for me we sat too deep too soon (which worked to an extent against St Mirren) and I think the changes highlighted how light our squad is. I felt for McCann as he was excellent in the first half but kept being shunted around as we tried to plug gaps. Plenty positives though and Nisbet was by far the best player on show tonight.

I'm just glad we got something from that game. That ref was a disgrace. We have to stop sitting so deep, in second half of games.

Gutted for the team, played very well and robbed by incompetence at best and a coupon on at worst.
Based on that I would take a bit of steel/experience over another winger...looked a bit ragged at the end.

I Hope You're Ok Today....

Bitterly disappointed in that second half. After a fantastic 1st half, I was expecting for a wee bonus with them kicking to our end. I cannot get used too watching only half a game.

sorry kelty_par - so what is a penalty for hand ball. How did the Dundee handball not merit a penalty (aside from referee not seeing it) - what was the difference ?

If they give that level of performance every week and we get relegated then I'll take that compared to the abject dross we had to watch last season

2 threads that have discussion about the handballs. Statements about "the letter of the law" as to why Dundee's first one was a penalty (but just a statement) - no-one so far has explained why , by the letter of the law, the ball hitting Dow's arm was a pen yet the ball hitting the Dundee defender's raised arm wasn't. It's ok to admit the ref got it wrong

Yeah McPake's changes at half time made big difference. Still don't recall Scully having a save to make 2nd half (and only 1 early in the 1st). 1st half penalty decision was THE game changer.

We are all talking about penalty decisions after that game and the injustice about those awarded or not given. VAR would have produced a different result to that game. A fairer result. And still some people are against it.

1st pen he misjudged the bounce of the ball and it would have fell to an attacker if it hadn't hit his arm. You'd be shouting for that. I would anyway.
2nd pen was made easier for the ref to award because Ashcroft goes in while there's already contact being made.
They are both soft but you can see why they were given. Doesn't excuse at least 1 that wasn't given for us though.

VAR may not have produce a different outcome - Women's world cup used to give penalties against Scotland yet not even called for to judge on blatant handballs against them .
When the current disciplinary panel can't agree unanimously whether a Sevco player's red card should stand or not for kicking a player off the ball what faith would we have in the same panel ruling on VAR

Jwd I've explained in the other thread why the Dow incident was a penalty. With regards too "What more could Dow have done" it's a long floated cross, where he's had a clear sight of the ball throughout its whole duration, in that instance you cannot let the ball hit your arm, it's a penalty.

It's completely different to the McGhee situation.

Surprised Andy Ryan didn't start up front along side Nisbet who was outstanding
all night,McCann in my opinion is a good young player but a bit lightweight and
would offer more coming off the bench, the Dundee back 3 in the first half looked
so pedestrian and should have been punished, just think Ryan could have made a
difference.

That first half was one of the best performances I've seen from The Pars in God knows how long. Absolutely brilliant. They made Dundee look embarrassingly average. Feeling a lot better about this season, after tonight.

Well done guys

Thanks for the explanation Grant. Still leaves a lot to the ref's interpretation. As I say bet a wadge if you can afford it on Tavernier scoring 20+ for Sevco this season due to that

disappointed to lose 2 points on that decision to say the least, excellent first half but that was never going to matched in the second and not because of lack of fitness or lack of experience.

lineup, tactics, subs all fine by me, just didn't get a break of the ball/decision in the second half.

totally different prospect next week at Dumfries on that pitch.

First half probably one of the best I’ve ever seen us play.

Second half looked like they were shattered from the first half.

What a difference to last season and tremendous entertainment. This season will be a roller coaster but we at least know these boys are giving everything.

Normally I'd feel down after drawing a game from 2-0 up but I don't really feel that way at all tonight. We played some really good football in the first half and Dundee just couldn't cope with the movement.

I didn't see any second half capitulation either. We started the half quite positively and I think we had slightly the better of it from half time until about 60 mins, when things turned around. There will always be spells in games when you come under pressure, and it was inevitable that would happen against a team looking for an equaliser. Yes, we lost two goals, but I thought we defended pretty well on the whole.

Good game tonight, I thought. Some decent play and an exciting end to it. Obviously disappointing not to win after that first half, but I was actually really pleased we managed to get through the last 10 minutes without ever looking like condeding a third, despite most of them being really tired by then.

As usual Socks is spot on.

Exactly how I feel. Very impressed and quite optimistic we can push for the play off places.

McCann lightweight?? He was one of our best battlers in the first have coming away with the ball from tustles he should never be winning, he needs to be played through the centre and is wasted on the left

Brilliant all round performance and can't blame them for not keeping the same momentum going forward against a team that had 2 game changing decisions in their favour at the worst possible times for us

Young team and they might learn to graft out results and win ugly as they gain experience but I'm certainly not going to hold that against them as some of the play in the first half was great to watch and the type of football that I love to see back at east end

Was in Aviemore tonight and watched the game on TV at the Cairngorm Hotel. We did seem to run out of steam second half. But well done young guys. Dundee have spent money (more so on wages/contracts) to build a team capable of challenging for winning the championship, but two dubious penalty decisions gave them a point. The stats may show they dominated possession, but our football was better in the attacking half of the pitch. Lots of positives tonight. Everyone of the players played for the jersey. We can’t ask for more. It’s going to a tough season. COYP

I'm really pleased that we got something out of the game as to lose all three points would have been a real kick in the gonads.

The first half display was excellent, with special mentions to Dow, Coley and Nisbet. I thought Lewis Martin was always composed on the ball but he is handicapped by being right footed.

Comrie also did well and played some intelligent balls down the channels and was always willing to join in and help Dow.

Other than a header from a corner, Dundee had been very much on the back foot and a two goal lead at HT would have been richly deserved.

The second half started with us on the front foot, but after the first 10 minutes, Dundee started to gain a good foothold and from then on, were the team who dictated the play.

Our central midfield began to toil and were largely outnumbered and I thought Crawford should have gone with 3 in the middle to try to deny McGowan, in particular, space to play the ball around.

The goal, when it came, could have been avoided. I thought Paton was going to take one for the team, but then backed out. A decision that cost us the penalty and an equaliser, as opposed to a yellow card. I hope next time, his decision will be different?

Overall, Dundee were fortunate to get a point and strangely, I was happy to take a point, at the end.

I'm sure the second half performance was a cocktail of disappointment at losing a soft goal on half time, Dundee's changes, tiredness with some of our players and the natural human nature of trying to defend a lead.

I was impressed by Nisbet the most. His running power, hold up play and awareness was very good.

A very entertaining game and let's hope for more of the same for the season ahead.
