 Celtic cup game
Topic Originator: FRED1981

I was told by a Celtic season ticket holder they have 37000 supporters whom signed up at the start of the season to be guaranteed a ticket for cup ties. This money gets taken off there bank if they go to a game or not ,if this is the case we would be due a fair whack of the gate money.

If that's the case we should be looking at £150k payout at the very least.

What do we get, 40% after security costs?

37K x guessing the average ticket around £20 = £740K
40% = £296K

But most of that will go on polis!

"Surely the stands at Celtic part have been designed like the Norrie and don't have view blocking pillars."

If we are in the corner away fans normally get the supports of the older stand get in the way. There are also pillars at the back of the big stand opposite the main stand as it overhangs the graveyard and they couldn't get a proper cantilever system in place.

Ticket prices for league games at Celtic are from £33, if that is the cost for a Betfred game many will not go.

When Celtic played Airdrie in the Scottish Cup at Celtic Park last season, tickets were £15. The game was live on Premier Sports but I can't imagine they'll charge much more than that, as long as we agree of course.

We won't get a couple of thousand tickets and even if we did we wouldn't sell them and also saying we will get hammered is just being negative there is a chance that we could cause a big upset even if that chance is slim

Given that it won't be sold out by a long way, why wouldn't we be offered a couple of thousand tickets?

A seat is listed on the ticket, but dosen't state that you have to sit in that seat and I wasn't asked when I bought my ticket where I would like to sit, so I would imagine it is sit in any seat.

Most likely, this is the rock solid way to prevent history repeating itself :)

But, back in January 1968 (27th to be precise) the Pars were about to play the Celtic that were the current holders of the European Cup.

Celtic:
Simpson,
Cattenach, Gemmell,
Murdoch, McNeil, Brogan,
Johnstone, Wallace, McBride, Auld, Hughes.
Sub: Chalmers

The Pars:
Martin,
W Callaghan, Lunn,
Fraser, Barry, Thomson,
Edwards, Paton, Gardner, T Callaghan, Robertson.
Sub: Hunter

It is difficult to muster a lot of optimism for the Pars' prospects against Celtic this weekend, especially seeing as they have stuck a dozen goals past established premier league sides in their past couple of games. But as the saying goes, it's just eleven against eleven at the end of the day, and if the gods are with you...

We can but hope that Lennon rests a few first-teamers for this encounter and maybe bloods five or six youngsters.

To be positive, what I do think could work in our favour is the size and condition of the Parkhead pitch, which should allow our lads to play the passing game that they can at times perform so well. The challenge for Stevie Crawford is to find the right combination.

Nisbet has shown that he can operate up front on his own and I think he has the ability to turn any defender to find and move into open space should the opportunity arise.

This is a game calling out for creative players like Turner and Dow and possibly Coley; this is their opportunity to shine on a big stage.

Paton and Beadling are a must in centre midfield, but goodness they are going to have a tough shift. But the toughest shift of all will be for the defence.

We know Comrie and Martin will do their very best, but they are going to be under enormous pressure trying to absorb Celtic's swift wing play style.

I hope Murray is okay for the match as we really don't have a suitable replacement there and I worry about Ashcroft who seems to get himself into all sorts of bother these days, usually resulting in us conceding goals. The same applies to Scully who, while a good shot-stopper, is just so vulnerable when dealing with high crosses into the box and we know that Celtic will be peppering those in.

For sure, it could all end horribly. We know that the boys will tire pretty quickly and they could find themselves overwhelmed as the second half drags on.

But then again, I was at that game at Parkhead in '68 and remember entering the stadium with very little optimism. Ninety minutes later, I stood on the terracing in a state of rapture having just enjoyed my best-ever experience as a Pars fan.

I would be so thrilled if you young 'uns were able to enjoy the same experience this weekend.

The team in 1968 had some of Pars best ever players. Comparing the scenarios is fun but in reality the gulf between Celtic and the Pars is considerable.
I'll be at Celtic Park for the first time this millennium expecting an entertaining game with Pars managing a goal or even 2 without conceding too many.
Obviously hoping that it's the Pars that put an end to 4 trebles in a row.

Vasco's right. The gulf between us and Celtic now is huge compared with what it was in 1968. This game is effectively a free hit and I doubt that a big loss would affect confidence. We've actually won a few times at Parkhead over the years and none of them was expected but we'll have to catch Celtic on a mammoth off-day to create a surprise I think.

Section 120 is the worst for the pillar, sadly the early tickets that were sold out of the shop were 120, it remains to be seen whether Celtic sell all the seats in that section.

Personally, I think Celtic are hyped-up in our media - the Invincibles, treble-treble, etc.
The reality, imho, is that they are a fair side; as good as most English Championship side. No more.
never heard of Cluj before last week :) - but, apparently, they gave the mighty Celtic a fair game,

"Pre-match, Cluj manager Dan Petrescu suggested his side needed a miracle to qualify,
but it was obvious from kick-off that wasn't the message he had given his team.
They tested the Celtic defence with a string of crosses and set-pieces, and were encouraged
to test the visitors down their left-hand side."
Quote from BBC review of the match.

Celtic dominate the Scottish Premiership, mainly because the opposition is weak.
I'm not convinced there's much difference between the bottom half of our Premiership and
the top of League 1. You'd expect the Premiership teams to be a class apart; but we beat St.Mirrin
who promptly beat Aberdeen - go figure?

I suspect Swansea City, Huddersfield and Middlesborough would all be capable of dominating
most Scottish teams across a season.

Anderlecht came and won at Parkhead, granted they put in a fair shift; but that was
after they'd lost to Celtic at home. So, they certainly aren't the force they used to be.

Of course there's a massive gulf between Celtic and us; and they'll get every 40-60
decision from the ref, we can be sure.

I just hope we at least try and score some goals, rather than setup like a 10-pin
bowling lane - waiting to be bulldozed.

Cluj played in the champions league group stages three times a wee while back. Beat Man U I'm sure.

It’s not the first half I’m worried about... we will probably be 1-0 down... it’s the second half like we have played in every game that could cost us 6 goals plus!

Ok we hear you.

Cluj made the group stages for a few years in the Champions League, they never got out their group but did beat Roma and Manchester Utd along the way.

According to COWS we have been allocated a further 600 tickets, but these are for the restricted view area.

People who get restricted view tickets will probably try take seats that were sold before hand with no restrictions

Celtic are 0-1 down to Cluj. I hope Craw's there to spot their weaknesses.

Frankly, if some two-bit team from Crotia can beat them, then we have every chance.

You mean the team that won the Romanian league last year?

Not sure if that result helps us or not. They will either be down after getting knocked out of champions league OR be really ready to give someone a hammering.

Irrelevant I think. Celtic will beat us regardless and we'll retrofit the Champions League result into the reasoning. Hammer us and it's because they're hurting. Stutter and it's because their confidence is rocked.

Crazy that they let a Croatian team enter the Romanian league isnt it? 😉 No idea why I wrote Croatian, I know they're Romanian.

The most likely impact on Saturday's game is a reduction in the crowd and our share of the gate.

Celtic Park has a capacity of 60,411.

Saturday's match will have a Gate around 20,000.

Why are Celtic sending us Restricted View tickets?
