Pal was telling me , they were giving away free tea-cakes at last night's games .
Should boost the crowd numbers massively . If they keep that up for subsequent rounds !

Couldn't they have just called it The Tunnocks Challenge Cup ?

I like the sound of Kelty actually, or of course take a fife derby

It'll be the most boring tie out of Ayr, Queen of the South or Morton away.

Take your pick.

Caramel wafers. The clue is in the title of the competition...

I'd like a tie v Kelty tbh, a first competitive game between us I think? Either that or a home tie against a non-Colt team please. I wouldn't go to an away game unless it was Kelty and I wouldn't go to any home game v a Colts side.

The people who turn up for the competition should donate their caramel wafers to build a life size Sammy the Tammy. The further we go the more likely he is to be completed!

Some serious loss-making ties in the draw but Rangers Colts going to Ballymena will be interesting.

Given that Kilmarnock exited European football at the hands of Connah’s Quay, I’ll be very interested to see how Cove Rangers fare against the same team.

As for our draw, it doesn’t get the pulse racing but it is a home tie and shouldn’t incur too much debt. This is, sadly, one of the measures of this competition and while fans will enjoy the away trip, I can’t imagine Cove’s board were rubbing their hands when the trip to Wales came out the pot.

Agree parfection. The players also will have to arrange the tie around their work schedules. For part time teams and the financial offering from the SFA this competition is a nonsense. We all enjoy the away days but the cost and logistics with lack of financial support crucifies the teams involved.

Are the travel and accommodation for the players not covered for the cross border away ties?

There is funding but as to whether it covers the costs or not depends on how you do it - how big a party you take, if you fly or go by coach, if you have any overnight stays... it was said we lost money but we flew down, stayed overnight and had a largish party down I think. You also get a share of gate money of course.

Ask the players if they want to withdraw or have a wee chance at some silverware.

The only thing thats ridiculous is the fact that the same people are going round in the same circles saying the same things the did a couple of months ago.

Plenty people like it... including the players.
It does need to be adequately funded though.

Thing is, if you dont like it just hush up and dont support it. Why spoil it for those who do like it.

Why do you think you speak for the players?

This blog post by Danny Denholm last season would suggest that you're wrong to try to do so...

“Plenty people like it” - judging from the attendance figures not many like it enough to come out and support it.

Even Queen’s Park put out their reserve team when playing Celtic under 21s (and took them to penalties).

Doesn't matter a jot who does/doesn't like it... It's a cup competition that we have to participate in.

Does that go for the Betfred cup aswell? The attendances for that are similar for games between lower league teams.
For example there was only 80 less for the Montrose Forfar game in the tunnocks than the Betfred.
There was more at Stranraer v rangers 21's game than either of Stranraer livi in the Betfred or Stranraer Montrose on opening game of season.
There were more fans at Stenny v Edinburgh in the tunnocks than Albion v Edinburgh in the Betfred.
There are numerous other example of this but the Betfred crowds never get slagged off.

The flame still burns

We took 800 to Boreham Wood. I like the fact we could be drawn against a team we wouldn't normally play. Also it's a chance to win some silverware.

Thanks for that. It was an interesting read.
I remember from one of the many cycles this topic has endured that the players saw it as the best chance they had of winning something.

Im getting a similar impression from the blog. It isnt the idea of a cup for the teams outside the premiership that he doesnt like, its the current settup that he finds fault with. Long trips to play teams he doesnt think should be included.

Is he speaking for all the players at this level any more than me?

It would be interesting to have a survey of the players.

It's a bit of a Mickey Mouse competition to be honest. I wouldn't even bother to go to the Final if The Pars reached it. I actually hold The Fife Cup in higher esteem. Although, having said that, one of the best games I seen on tv last season was Queens Park v some Welsh mob. Looked like all those players were taking it seriously
