The whole team deserve credit today.... But what can we see about this absolute Trojan??? That was an immense performance from Lewis... One challenge in particular, towards the end of the first half.

Several of our players have the potential to go to the top. That is what is so exciting about this squad that we have right now.

Sounds really positive especially considering he was out for the whole of last season.

Was about to post this myself before i saw this thread.

Exceptional today - as was everyone - but particularly LM.

"Utility player" tag possibly put to bed with that sort of performance and cemented as first choice left back.

Think everyone knew he had the ability to pull a performance like that off but the last 2 seasons have been rough for the boy, hopefully keeps fit for this season and he’ll be like a new signing

I feared we would struggle at left back this season when Jackson Longridge was sold and we never brought in a direct replacement. Lewis Martin has been immense so far this season. If we can keep him fit he will be a big asset for us.

“Incredibly this is his seventh season with us.”

Joined in 2011-12 season, which would make this his 9th.

Made his first team debut in 2012-13, which would make this his 8th season in the first team squad.

I always saw a player in him when he was thrown in to the team around the time of the financial turmoil. He and Kerr Young genuinely excited me. Well at least I was 50% right. He cut a frustrating figure when he was getting sent off regularly and his shirt pulling always annoyed me. However I think we've seen him develop into a full blown, first choice fullback now. Could not be happier for the lad.

I was surprised he was kept on to be fair.
Still not convinced he is a left back mind you.

I still think playing as a sweeper behind a big
center half is his best position.

My mistake par91, took my info from Wiki but looking at COWS player profile confirms he signed as youngster way back in season 2011-12.

Always said Lewis was a very valuable player in our squad, still very young with so much experience under his belt. Very versatile with being able to play all over the back 4. Also got a burst of pace on him.

AJ ruined him and didn't give him enough chance, especially in that one game where he was played in Central midfield against QOS and Dobbie ripped us apart.

How did AJ ruin him? He was the one who saw his potential at left back. If he hadn't been injured for most of last seasons I'm sure he would have featured in the team, possibly at right back when Williamson was off form.

Tail end of season before last he was outstanding at left back, unfortunately injuries last year blighted his season.

Great to see him doing well!

Yes that run we went on at the end of that season he was great both at the defensive and attacking side of the game.

The simple thing to do would have been to release him at the end of last season due to injury and his apparent inability to be able to cement a place in the first team

Good judgement by Crawford who obviously saw the potential in him and has belief in his ability, great to see him settled in and enjoying a productive run in the side

Beasted the game yesterday and has certainly changed my opinion of him since he's moved to Left Back. I wonder if we will see him feature as a CB again - sure it was a LCB role he was playing yesterday.

it’s evident how hard he’s worked to get back to the first team, i’ve seen him training his left foot solely pre-match (and presumably training) to aid him at LB. It’s always valuable having someone you are guarenteed 100% effort from. Long may it continue

About time Lewis managed to get his bad spell behind him. He's had a horrible couple of seasons with injury. (Maybe also management who weren't sure how to play him best??) I often wondered if he could end up as another player who showed such great promise initially but never quite achieved it.

Hope that he can take this performance and push on and become a big player for us.

It's really annoying how when I google him, it just gives info about the money saving expert guy. 130 odd games now for us, plenty of experience now, so I hope this is the season he really kicks on. He is a versatile player, I've always had high hopes for him

I’d be lying if I said that I always knew he’d become a solid player. Along with many others, I really questioned whether he was (or would ever be) good enough, a few years ago. The season he got 3 red cards could have been the end for him. He’s been through a nightmare few years since as well, with illness and injury. His attitude has never been in question, but his confidence and morale must have been really low at many points over that period.

That would be enough for a lot of players to call it a day. That would be enough for a lot of managers to let him go. To come back and prove so many people wrong, is remarkable. It says a lot about his personality and attitude, that he has worked so hard to become the player we’re now seeing. Hopefully he can keep up this level of performance and sign a longer deal. He seems to have the potential to go on and become a real great player for the club and I hope that proves to be the case.
