 Gaelic for Fitbaw
Topic Originator: Kaiser Chief

As part of this weeks Outwith Festival, EEP will be hosting an evening of Gaelic for Fitbaw, presented by BBC Alba commentator Hugh Dan Maclennan, on Thursday 5th September. The idea being to promote the Gaelic language using TV footage of Scottish football to do so.

Come along and learn what some of the regular phrases you hear actually mean and maybe learn some new expressions you can use on a Saturday!

The free event starts at 5.30pm in the Purvis Suite and a couple of Pars players will be coming along to join in too.

I've picked up some Gaelic just from watching football on BBC Alba. For example, I know what the Gaelic for 'hashtag' is.

Ha, I'd be lost pretty quickly.i only dabble with the language. I met him once I think (well... I was standing close to him so didn't really meet him.. But I was close so I'm counting it lol) in Inverness at Bught Park pitches during a shinty match.
It was roughly before he wrote "shinty" so would be early eighties.
I was but a youngster but my father told me "that's the man that does the commentary on the matches".
Now that's a tough game.... No quarter given.
Sadly il still be at work when this is on tonight.
Recently started to dabble with Doric too... It's very interesting.
I've got family in Buckie so I might be able to communicate with them in their tongue next time I'm up instead of them having to repeat everything until I sus it out.
Regards
Widders
