Robertson and McGinn have been absolutely shocking tonight. Can’t understand why we’re so bad as on paper we have a decent enough squad.

We’ve been rotten. They were there for there taking . Started well , scored and surrendered. Poor performances from our “best” players. At the end of the day international football is a pain in the erse for these premiership big boys. Hardly surprising they are murder half the time.

After Russia equalised we were always on the back foot and they dominated possession.
No surprise at the end result.

We got a lucky goal from a GK mistake.
McBurnie up front was gassed after 30 mins and no wonder as he played up top by himself when the Russians went 3 at the back.
Our defence is murder and can’t pass a ball then if in doubt hoof it up to mcmurder...... so where was the midfield?....nowhere to be seen.

Well i didn't see any evidence tonight that Clarke had his tactics right and is the right man for the job ! Hope I am wrong
no fight in many of the players and couldn't pass water never mind a ball absolutely no midfield
And how the heck Mcgregor and co when taking free kicks did not keep it away from the keeper , all night they were just high balls into the box and the keeper got about every one of them , And IMO we gave away 2 cheap goals
Scotland are absolutely crap just now , we were in a better state when Strachan was in charge , and as others have said the same old Scotland good 10 mins to start with and try again when it's too late for the last 10
Thank God i didn't go to the game tonight
hope the pars cheer me up tomorrow !!

‘Played the first and the last ten minutes.’

Exactly how I saw it too. 4-1 would have better reflected the game. Dzuba, the man mountain Russian striker, played better passes with his chest and his head than the Scottish midfield managed all night. If McBurnie does not want to play for Scotland, and his zero goals in 8 matches suggest he may not, it is not necessary to come to Hampden on a Friday night to establish the fact. He is a joke of an international striker.

Russia, in terms of European football being a 5 tier set up, are a poorish second tier. They had a good world cup but their winner tonight was scored by Zhirkov, a left back in the marauding Andy Robertson style about a decade ago. He is now a bit player who gets a game because there is no one better. Scotland are a 4th tier football power bereft of technique- we never look more vulnerable then when trying to pass the ball inside our own half- without much passion in way of compensation. Dzuba gave it the full Joe Jordan tonight: do we have anyone who can play with that commitment and belief? Why do our Scottish lads look so stringy? Is it diet?

Robertson is the new Tommy Gemmell: a great European attacking full back who has to play on the back foot when wearing a Scottish jersey. There might come a time when his commitment to the casue will have to be considered in terms oif his career. Clarke may be a good coach but on tonight’s showing he will never put bums on seats at Hampden Park.

Play whatever tactic you want, the calibre of Scottish talent is poor, players are generally over hyped with how well they do in the SPL playing the likes of St Mirren and Hamilton, there’s no competitiveness in Scottish football so have to fish down in England. There’s no unity, togetherness or grit that’s helped Wales and Northern Ireland to do well.

One glimmer of hope is we have Robertson and McGinn, the latter just beginning to flourish with Villa. I’d add Griffiths in as well.

Rest of the team is disposable.

I thought, especially remembering the last few games under McLeish,we played not too bad.At least they pass to each other now.I'll wait and see how he gets the team sorted but not too upset as we need to get the team playing football.

I'm not too concerned with the section as we have a play-off anyway so use these to build a team for it.

We cannot keep possession moving forward; our best passing sequence tonight was around a dozen passes which ended up back with our goalkeeper.
The man receiving the ball is normally static and has a body like a half-shut knife, so the options for the next ball are verging on the impossible. We are not controlling the play when we have the ball, we are just looking for someone to kick it to in a blue jersey. It's the kind of football I played at primary school.

Not too many positives but not really unexpected either.2-1 was flattering for us.Possession is key in international football and we simply can't retain the ball for long enough to make the opposition work hard.Technically we are miles behind and have been for years which makes it all the more frustrating that it hasn't been addressed-it was typical headless chicken stuff.Nobody is prepared to put their foot on the ball and take responsibility.I thought Golovin was head and shoulders above everyone on the park.

I've heard some folk crying out for Cooper to be called up but he was dreadful, made mistakes for both of their goals and made Grant Hanley look half decent(ok maybe that's going a bit far)You could pick holes in every department of the team but it's not as if there are players knocking the door down to be selected either-fair play to Clarke for taking on an impossible job.

Not sure we would want to qualify with the current squad and be embarrassed on a wider stage. The fact we have a chance of qualifying through the Nations League makes a bit of a mockery of the Euros imo-not that we will progress there either.

McBurnie getting a bit of stick here and elsewhere but I didn't think he was too bad, his goals tally for Scotland isn't a suggestion to his commitment or otherwise, and there are hardly many other Scottish centre forwards banging at the door for inclusion in the next squad. It does seem that the Anglos get a lot more stick than those playing up here - for me I don't think O'Donnell and Forrest are good enough but the latter in particular seems to play whenever he's fit.

O’Donnell should never wear a Scotland jersey again. Surely we have better right backs than him? Absolute garbage. McBurnie was a waste of a jersey as well. Honking. Marshall was our best player; the result would have been ****** 5 or 6 if it wasn’t for him. Embarrassing.

When was the last time he played Full back? He's been used as a target man or support striker for Cardiff (and Scotland, lest we forget?).

I'm not convinced Paterson is a better right back tbh, especially since he hasn't played that role in about 3 years. Ryan Jack I suppose is a possibility although he has been playing in midfield for most of his career.

Ryan Jack may, or may not, be several things but one thing he definitely isn't is sh1te.

Believe he's one of Gerard's first names on the team sheet every week so he can't be that bad.

Palmer is although he didn't cover himself in glory in his Scotland debut. Tavenier can't "become eligible" for us - the Home Nations don't use the residency rule since they can get a UK passport rather than for an individual footballing nation. The only residency exceptions are when they have had a certain number of years in education in that country as was the case with Rhodes, Feruz, etc.

Not true on Tavernier. Under 'normal' residency rules he would - but due to having one UK passport, the home nations agree not to use this rule.

Only exception is if they're schooled in the country for 5 years.

Haven't seen that much of McBurnie but what I have seen doesn't inspire confidence. The ball doesn't stick with him, he is easily eased off the ball. Rather than a spearhead centre forward he looks like a gangly youth with limited ability with the ball at his feet. But overall the team did not gel. The back 4 looked uncomfortable playing the ball out from the back. The midfield just didn't perform and McBurnie was isolated.
