 De Bruyne v Beckham

Who do you think is the better crosser of the ball? Both are similar, in that they both put plenty pace of the ball and bend it in around the 6 yard line to the penalty spot - a striker's dream.

I'll give the edge to De Bruyne, as he can do it with his left too, albeit, not as well.

De Bryune is a joy to watch. He put the game to bed before half time and coasted after that, but was still keen enough to take his goal with total conviction. I’d put him well ahead of Beckham as an all-round player: sees the pass early and plays it with the right weight even when running quickly on either flank. Beckham was more a specialist when the ball was dead at his feet. That was a great performance from De Bryune tonight although there seemed to be little pressure put on him by our players.

If just dead ball prowess, Beckham might (and I mean might) shade it. In terms of overall contribution to the team, it's not even close - De Bruyne by miles.

De Bruyne is on a different planet. Even when Belgium were 4 up last night he was back in his own box helping his defence. At the end he looked like he could do another 90 minutes.

Courteous.. Vermaelen... De Bruyne ...Lukaku

Would have beaten us last night.

Pretty much as above, Beckham was a set piece wizard, De Bruyne is one of the most complete footballers of this generation. Insane player

Last night was one of the best individual performances i have seen in terms of passing. Weight/timing of passes, awareness of team-mates, movement off the ball. Sometimes you just need to admire real talent.

I think folk are being unfair on Beckham. He had some engine in him and brought so much more to a team than decent free kicks.

I specifically posed the question as to who was the better crosser of the ball, not who was the better player.

Better crosser is Beckham without a doubt.

The better crosser imo would be De Bruyne, just tho.

All round player - De Bruyne, Free kicks - Beckham.

While I thought Beckham was a fantastic footballer, De Bruyne, as mentioned above, is probably the most complete footballer of his generation.

De Bruyne is a great player but to call him the most complete player of his generation is somewhat stretching it! What about Messi and Ronaldo? For me he isn't yet the best player in the Man City team-that accolade falls to David Silva currently for me with what he has won in the game.

In terms of PL assists De Bruyne has 46 in 120 games so an assist every 2.6 games, Beckham had 80 in 265 games so one every 3.3 games. Of course there are a lot of variables. All of the assists weren't crosses, one team probably scores more goals than the other and of course not every good cross is converted. For longevity I would have to give it to Beckham although De Bruyne can get there.Currently de Bruyne isn't yet in the top 30 assist makers in the Premier League.Silva has made 73.Ryan Giggs has the most assists ever on 162-more than 50 ahead of anyone else.

I'm glad to see de Bruyne approaching his best again though after being out most of last season with a knee injury-some players never recover from these types of injury.

I'll throw in Trent Alexander Arnold as someone who has a great delivery. Having seen him live a few times he is suspect defensively imo but puts in a cracking cross.

In terms of Scottish football as much as it pains me to say it I distinctly remember as a kid that Ray McKinnon could put in a good cross and it stuck in my mind that he took corners with either foot depending on what side he was on-something I had never really seen before.

Man Utd fan by any chance ? Laughable attempt at trying to devalue KdB’s ability imo.

Wrong with your assumptions as per.Quite the opposite, aside from being a Pars fan I have followed Liverpool for over 25 years as it was the first strip I ever had as a kid-read the part about seeing TAA live several times. So saying I'm a Man U fan couldn't be any further from the truth(In a perfect position to call it on a neutral basis) As for devaluing KDB-read the first sentence and the bit about KDB having the potential to be number one in due course.

Dead ball situations it has to be Beckham... for now.

I dont think the stats for assists really shows much.
The style of play that United had meant Beckham got a lot of attempts into the box.
City though with their style have 5 or six players setting up chances.

Dr Bruyne is also much more involved in the central and defensive parts of the midfield that Silva or Beckham ever were. Easily a top 3 player right now

Nobody could cross a ball better than Beckham though I think De Bruyne is probably a better all round player
