 Modern Hall of Fame inductees?
Topic Originator: Andrew283
Date:   Fri 4 Oct 20:33

Was sitting at work today, half brain dead, thinking about who from recent Pars teams could be considered for inclusion in the hall of fame in future years?

Probably the 2 most clear cut choices would be Andy Kirk and Joe Cardle but really wasn't too sure of anybody else that was with us long enough or made. A big enough impact to be considered unless you look even further back. Anyone else have any opinions?

Honestly noone in the past 10 years if we're honest. The volunteers who keep the club running are first in line.

I need to go back to Craig Brewster to find a player of “modern times” who I think was good enough to grace the DAFC Hall of Fame

The rest since I’m afraid don’t cut the mustard IMO to sit with the likes of Istvan Kosma, Charlie Dickson, Bert Paton, Roy Barry, Alex Ferguson, Alex Edwards & their likes

Above average is not a good enough reason

Andy Kirk the man who couldn’t trap a bag of cement. 😄
Can’t think of any player who has stayed long enough to be considered. Changed days from when players had allegiance to the club they play for and wouldn’t sign for rivals in the same league without a second thought.

Brewster is a shoe in, best Pars centre forward I ever seen (from my time in watching the Pars in 1970)

Brewster didn't play for us in 1970.

Andy kirk, joe cardle hall of fame Pmsl

I think you are either on the wind up, very easily pleased or do not get the hall of fame concept.

Brewster would be the only one near it from this century.

"Cardle - April 1st already ?"

"Andy kirk, joe cardle hall of fame Pmsl "

Isn't Cardle on our all-time top 10 appearances and/or scorers list? Something like 60 goals in 250 odd appearances? Kirk scored over 70 goals in around 175 appearances for us which is a good return.

Outwith Kozma being our record signing why is he in the hall of fame? Wasn't with us a terribly long time.

The only sensible suggestions above is actually Marv and Margaret Ross.
I would add Margaret that runs the hospitality and function suites too, the club would be in a hole without her over the years.

Shields could get a nomination as over half of his senior appearances were with the club and now giving management service. He had more than double the games for the club than Kozma who is in the HoF and more games than the aforementioned Cardle.

Considering we have only 3 months of this decade left I'm struggling to name any player since 2010. Maybe Joe Cardle and Martin Hardie for about 3 months at a push. A truly grim period in our history.

Awight Pat!

That's a good observation about the decade, Frank. It has been fairly grim; a bit like the 1970s.

On a positive note, there are some signs of improvement. Let's hope the coming decade is more like the 80s.

I’d say Cardle is more than suitable. Fans favourite, served the club well and had a lot of good moments for us. A lot of pars fans in early 20s and teens would have him among their favourite players.

The contract situation with the Bosman rule has made this type of award very difficult. Even Brewster wasn't with us all that long. Great player though.

"A lot of pars fans in early 20s and teens would have him among their favourite players."

Which obviously means they've never had a chance to see the REAL legends at the club.

Cardle alongside Alex Edwards in the HoF - behave yourself.

“Outwith Kozma being our record signing why is he in the hall of fame? Wasn't with us a terribly long time”

................. HoF is not about a players long service, it’s about outstanding &/or memorable service whilst they were with the Pars

Given the latter, Martin Hardie for his wonder free kicks v ICT & the wee team both in 2011 might just qualify him, but in reality is that enough?!

I’m not big on non playing individuals joining the HoF although several inducted should definitely have been awarded a Long Service Medal & all of them deserve a special mention

The HoF inductions stopped between 2012 & 2019 not because of the turmoil the club was in but because the Pars “well” of outstanding players had ran dry..... A condition that has not changed in recent times.
There are many, many people that could do with a mention in dispatches since 2013 & the Pars hiatus but a “Role of Honour” would be a better placed for them

If pushed I'd vote for Andy Geggan

Of course it’s partly a popularity contest. Petrie wasn’t exactly Edwards either was he?

I think in the recent teams I would not list anyone in my all times Pars favourites, but if this period was taken in isolation

Andy Geggan - for his captaincy during one of the darkest periods in our history. If only we had a player like him now.

Joe Cardle - on his day worth paying the money to get in for him alone, maybe inconsistent but if he wasn't he would have been playing at a much higher level than us. He will be remembered by a generation of Pars fans of a certain age as their first Pars hero.

A lot of fans had El Bachtoui as a favourite, we adding him to the HoF as well?

Maybe once he's clocked up over 200 appearances and 50 odd goals. Things that are hard to do in the age of Bosman pre-contracts and one year deals.

See the same auld miserable gits waving their age about with the mockery of some posts. If every player had to be Alex Edwards or Bert Paton levels to get into the HoF then we'd have about 20 names down in our history. Kirk broke into our top 10 goalscorers in quite a short space of time, whilst Cardle, over 2 spells was one of the few highlights of going to Pars games

"Kirk broke into our top 10 goalscorers in quite a short space of time,"

His record is over five seasons at the club - a bit more than a short space of time.

51 goals in 146 appearances is a respectable stat - but remember four seasons were spent in the SECOND tier.

He scored 11 league goals in the Premier 2011, the club were relegated having only managed 40 goals, worst equal with Hibs.

A decent record, but nothing exceptional.

Why should that qualify for HoF ?

For comparison purposes only - Sir Fergie scored 66 goals in 89 appearances over 3 seasons, all in the top flight.

I suppose the perspective of us miserable auld gits is a different mindset !!!
