That team has a good look to it, lets hope the more games they have together the more confidence they gain. A nice away win today will do fine.

My post has been marked down because I’m having the day off? Really? Try doing the updates every other weekend of the season and see how it feels. t*ss*r.

If the beer festival had been on this weekend I’d have been working at it anyway.

Mon the Pars

If we can't win with this team we'll not win with any team.
Apart from Murray this is probably our strongest 11.

From the Greenock Morton Twitter :

“23' WHAT AN UNBELIEVABLE CLEARANCE! That is an insane goal line clearance from Tom Beadling as Aidan Nesbitt runs down the wing and sends a low cross into the box which breaks to Chris Millar who's shot is denied by an outstanding slide tackle on the line.”

We're controlling the possession, but with the players we have I'd absolutely love one of our wide men to actually take a player on, the best chance of the game (For Morton) came from Nesbitt having the ball wide, beating Edwards before flashing a ball across. It's just so passive and safe, pass, pass, pass, inevitably lose the ball. I've not once seen one of Kiltie, Dow or Turner try and take a ma on to create space.
Our best (only) attempt on goal came from Cochrane having a wonderful turn in the middle.

Looks like the whole team is dross today
I know there is still 45 mins to go so I am still keeping the Faith , we need that first goal it is so important in this league !!
But to do that we need to have some attempts at their goal

An insipid performance from both sides. Pars are passing the ball around to little effect. Any threat we have offered has come down the flanks but with no delivery.

Morton came so close to breaking the deadlock after 20 minutes or so, but a superb goal-line clearance saved the day for us.

Our best chance came from Turner late on after a wonderful turn by Cochrane left two Morton players looking daft and opened up space for his teammate to shoot goalward from 30 yards out. It would have gone in had a defender not deflected it away for a corner.

Brian's highlights package of the first half will be a short one. Let's hope for better stuff in the next 45 minutes.

This is the kind of game that would get football stopped. Gill with another save but the Morton players should have squared it to his mate who had a tap in. And now Turner trying to dribble it clear from a corner leads to another chance. Morton the likeliest team to score at the moment. Don't think we've been near their box since the second half started.

I think at this stage as we just need to avoid losing games. We are going to be a team that gets alot of draws this season ie 0-0 or 1-1

Brutal match with two brutal teams and eventually a brutal draw.

Brutal setup getting into a brutal ground too, with a £20 brutal price tag.

Thing is you want to believe the manager has something in the locker to rally the troops....every interview bar post Partick barely managing to puff out a wispy fart.

My heart sank when Crawford got the job and it's exactly what was expected so far sadly.

I Hope You're Ok Today....

Crawfords record must be abysmal. I was in agreement that AJ’s time was up but if I had know the option was SC I’d have been 100% behind AJ. Shocking appointment. Massively underperforming. Massively underwhelming. Massively *****

8 points from last 48 available, 1 win in 16, No home league win since March, in the relegation zone after almost a quarter played.

Damning stuff but despite this I would give Crawford a bit more time to try and turn this round but it's gradually getting to the point where it's getting hard to defend this.

Awight Pat!

Fine margins and all that. Looked like a tale of two keepers - Gill saving a couple well then Ramsbottom dropping one at the feet of Ryan - and a soft free kick saving us then the referee and linesman fail to see a foul throw (the players left foot was practically at his back) and we fail to stop the cross or deal with the second ball. A turgid game that deserved no winner, but having been ahead so late it will always appear worse, moreso given the other results this week. To be fair though, I'd have taken a point before kick off and they were 3 wins from 3 at home and it's a venue we don't have a great record at. The performance was, again, the real disappointment - too many safe sideways/backwards passes when the more adventurous approach may have reaped rewards and barely any chances created until their disallowed goal. Not good.

I agree buddy, but this is really dire. I've been a supporter for about 50 years and this is one of worst teams I've seen.

I agree, I think it's the management team. I think there's players there but the tactics are brutal.
I'm beginning to think the Dundee first half was an accident and this is the way Stevie wants us to play. After all, it's been this way since then.

Moose i am like you been supporting them for over 50 years
its not just no heart no fight it is no Idea's what to do either , you cannot score if you don't shoot today it was almost half time before we managed an attempt at goals Crawford was a forward so i wonder what he tells them ( i can probably answer that one myself ), this team is dire just now and I cannot see Crawford steering us out of it ,
He needs to do the decent thing and walk !! if not the crowds will dwindle even more than they are dwindling just now

Very scrappy game and we were one minute from a great result. But one point puts us second bottom. On the positive note 3 games without defeat.

Says it all really, especially as that solitary win was against a very poor Partick side, now bottom of the league.

The board were not slow to jack up admission prices for 2019/20 - time to act as swiftly with the managerial positions.

You can't help but feel that of they pulled the finger out and played the type of game we saw in the first half against Dundee, we'd be winning games like today's comfortably.

Where's that endeavour, invention and confidence gone?

I hate saying it, but the buck stops with management in that respect.

I know from sources who've seen it first hand that the management team do an fantastic job behind the scenes, especially with the young guys. But these results need to improve or they're not going to get the chance to finish the job.

...ken?

I don't want to see Greg Shields leave the club. I think he is an asset, is doing a great job with the youngsters and he should stay where he is.

However, with Stevie, I am afraid his time is fast running out. Most of us wanted him to succeed, but as each game goes by it is becoming clear that he's just not up to the role of a football manager, certainly not at the Championship level.

If the board chooses to keep him on, then for goodness sake they must get an old hand in to give him advice. What's Jimmy Nicholl doing these days?

The problem at that time was, the players put everything into the first half and were done for the second... Everyone complaining that we cant last 90 mins. They will have worked on that and clearly that's meant taking a step or two back in the first half to save energy for the rest of the game?

It's amazing how the mood on here can change in a matter of seconds.

The most disappointing thing for me was that, after we scored, when we should have been running down the clock, keeping possession and drawing fouls, we started punting it long. Two instances in particular when we just kicked to the corner with no Pars' players nearby. I think the first culprit was Nisbet and, disappointingly, the second one was Dow. I don't know if that was down to the manager or if the players decided themselves that was the thing to do.

Your right wee eck , I don't think it matters what level your playing at when your 1 up that late in a game you know that you need to keep control of the ball because if you have it the opposition cannot score and when you go to the corner to run down the clock you need players there to hold on to it , schoolboy stuff really
punting it long our players should know by this time its just coming right back at you !!

With 10 minutes to go, a point would have been OK as Morton had been the stronger side in the second half, but there are few things in football as sore as losing a winner or equaliser with the last kick of the game. We didn't really deserve to win the game but for those few minutes there was some hope that we might just get an undeserved win. Although we were deep in the last few minutes, I didn't feel they looked especially like scoring.

I thought our defence and goalkeeper did quite well today, with little ahead of them. Not much to get excited about in midfield and up front, though it did improve a bit after Andy Ryan came on when we did put together one genuinely good breakaway move.

Couldn't tell you much about how we were set up, as it's difficult to see when about a third of the pitch is obscured. We haven't been in the main stand at Cappielow for a few years and I'd forgotten just how much I hate that thing. When we were getting a bit of the terracing, Cappielow was an OK away trip on a par with most other grounds. Being back in the stand immediately puts it back to the bottom of my list.

Beforehand, you would have expected this to be pretty close with Morton slight favourites.

Morton’s home form is pretty decent; their away form pretty dismal.

After last week’s disaster, it looked like they were flooding the midfield, keeping it tight and hoping to score from a set-piece. The Pars were (understandably) complicit.

It was noticeable that virtually the only chances for either side came when they were caught out pushing forward. This is why teams low on confidence take few risks.

I thought Cochrane had his best game so far – constantly looking for the ball. He should improve. Not sure what Kiltie was up to – perhaps he didn’t know himself. Ryan needed that goal. I’d partner him and Nisbet next week.

Not sure where the ref got 4 minutes stoppage time from. Had it been 3, we’d have taken the 3 points and arguably the tactics would have worked.

Three weeks ago, I said we should be patient. I don’t see why I should change my opinion.

Yesterday was my 3rd Pars game this season and I’ve yet to see us lose but that sure felt like a defeat. As others have said, we should have been able to run the clock down for the last few minutes but it looked like the players just didn’t have the craftiness, experience or confidence to just keep hold of the ball.

Throughout the game there was a distinct lack of service to the forwards. There was very little width to the team, especially on the left and far too many long balls just lumped forward.

On the plus side, that was my first look at Edwards and Cochrane and they both did ok but Kiltie made no impression on me at all.

Just watched the “highlights” and their goal sums up the awfulness of everything about that game.

- the throw in is taken by the Morton player with one leg literally kicking his own ar5echeek
- our players allow the ball into the box rather than defend early and get it away
- Ashcroft is outmuscled by the striker to get the final touch

Just woeful all round.

Assuming Murray is back after the international break, that may give us the opportunity to change the shape a bit. We seem more dangerous when Nisbet has a partner alongside and we seem to have a gap in the middle without an adequate creative mid option (at least pending MacDonald's recovery, if that ever happens). If Murray is back, anyone else think it's time for another go at the 3-5-2? Only issue is the strength of the opposition in the next two games, but with our defence looking quite strong, and with two full backs who can both do the running back as wing backs it may work -
Gill

-----------Murray-----------Ashcroft-----------Martin

Comrie-------------------------------------------------------Edwards

-------------------------Cochrane/Paton

-----------Dow---------------------------------Kiltie

----------------------Nisbet-----------Ryan

Think most people assumed Kiltie would be playing as a second striker, that's what the Morton fans reckon his best position is anyway. Not sure where he was meant to be yesterday. Not having Lewis McCann available probably didn't help matters.
