 England match
Topic Originator: MDCCCLXXXV

Bulgarian fans warned about racial abuse but still booing when a black player has the ball. Now 3 nil England but IMHO this game will not last 90 minutes

East End Park is a symbol of all that is DAFC.

Genuine Question - France has a decent amount of black players. Have they received the same abuse from Bulgarian fans in the past? Or have any other country had it for example?

I do remember reading about Roberto Carlos having Bananas thrown at him in Russia while playing for Machkala. Keisuke Honda on the other hand never received any racist abuse while playing for 5 years in Moscow. Granted neither are black, but food for thought I think...

Disgusting.

Can't believe that in 2019 we've still got issues with sectarianism and racism in society or that folk try to make excuses for it.

P. S. I also don't believe there's such thing as a 90 minute bigot

The trend appears in line with crime figures, which have shown that racially motivated hate crime has increased every year since 2013, doubling to 71,251 incidents in England and Wales in 2018, according to the Home Office.

Not a dig at you DBP but on the increase across most of the UK

The poll comes amid a wave of headlines about racism in Britain, from the BBC’s sacking of Danny Baker for tweeting a picture of a couple with a chimp following the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s baby, to growing anger from professional footballers at racism online and in stadiums.

UEFA have picked up both rangers and celtic for sectarian chants, more than the Scottish authorities have done.

No place for any sectarian or racist chants in any walk of life, sanctions were put in place by UEFA tonight and I suspect further sanctions will follow

Part of the stadium was closed tonight because of racist behaviour from the Bulgarian fans against the Czech Republic and Kosovo.

Football is changing and you have to give respect to our greatest rivals for taking a stance on the behaviour of the Bulgarian fans last night

The bar has been set now and offensive behaviour is high on the radar not only for racist comments but this could (and should) carry over to Scottish football and its own shame.
Will it now be acceptable for whichever half of Glasgow’s big teams to say they will walk off the pitch should they be subject to sectarian chanting. Would it also be the prepared course of action, for example, for homophobic chants directed towards individuals?

Note:- Our fans are no angels when it comes to these issues when you consider the recent games at Celtic Pork and at home to Dundee United (Scott McDonald)

Whilst the Scottish football authorities and the Glasgow teams have taken some steps to show that they are attempting to tackle the sectarian issue last nights developments will be the benchmark for football in general and the repercussions will filter down to club football.

Scottish Football authorities are unwilling to solve the issues so therefore should take the opportunity to call in an independent body to set the sanctions against clubs whose fans refuse to accept the attempts to stamp out sectarian (or other) offensive behaviour

Make no mistake last night was a real turning point in football

The referee should treat fans like players. Yellow card as a warning then red card to have sanctions made. It'd soon stop the sectarianism in Scotland. Can you imagine how quickly the idiots would be weeded out of EEP if suddenly we were told we were to play in an empty stadium? Then imagine the same at Celtic Park, Ibrox, Tynecastle etc.

That isn't the point... Refs are there to referee the game, not the crowd.
That's what they've trained for.
Security/police etc... are in charge of taking care of the crowd

Unfortunately for the referees, this is yet another example of the growing and growing lists of responsibilities they have to look after. I agree it shouldn’t be the referees responsibility to have to listen for crowd behaviour. That said, what probably will have happened nowadays with them being mic’d up, is that the 4th official will have heard it all and sent message through or had some comms to say , players off the pitch.

Good on the officials last night. A wee expulsion for a couple of games for Bulgaria might make a difference.

The referee has to make a judgement call on games. They decide whether the environment is safe for a game. Typically this would involve checking the pitch isn't frozen or waterlogged but also includes safety of players. If not the referee then someone in a position of power and independent (so not the stadium safety officer) requires to have the ability to cancel a game in these circumstances. The longer these things are left to fester, the worse it gets. Bulgaria should be ashamed of the actions of a minority of idiots but we shouldn't lose sight of what is deemed acceptable in the Scottish game.

Apparently a lot of the folk who were Allegedly dishing out the abuse were removed from the stadium at half time.
This would tally with the reports that the abuse wasn't as bad during the second half.
So someone (no idea who) has done something about it... Albeit a little too late.
But how do you stop the alleged racists from getting in to start with?
Were the people removed just sent on their way or were they detained?
With the new protocols being used for the first time (that I've ever seen anyway) this game will go down in history... But for all the wrong reasons.
Incidentally... Anyone know what would have happened if protocol three had been acted on? (game stopped and abandoned).
Automatic win for England? Non contest? Replay?

The Bulgarian captain went over to the stand behind the goals at half time, and after that a lot of them seemed to leave. Presumably that had some effect.

I see booing the national anthems are now an offence? This is us heading faster and faster into the abyss. It’s only a matter of time before any singing or noise is outlawed at games. It’s getting harder and harder to relate to football now. It’s becoming painful.

God Save the Queen
God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen;
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us,
God save the Queen.
Oh Lord our God arise,
Scatter our enemies,
And make them fall
Confound their politics
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix
Oh save us all
Thy choicest gifts in store
On her be pleased to pour;
Long may she reign;
May she defend our laws
And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice
God save the Queen
Not in this land alone,
But be God's mercies known,
From shore to shore!
Lord, make the nations see,
That men should brothers be,
And form one family,
The wide world over.
From every latent foe,
From the assassins blow,
God save the Queen!
O'er her Thine arm extend,
For Britain's sake defend,
Our mother, princess and friend,
God save the Queen
Lord, grant that Marshall Wade
May, by Thy mighty aid,
Victory bring.
May he sedition hush,
And like a torrent rush,
Rebellious Scots to crush.
God save the Queen

Here are the words of the national anthem.

Why would we not want to boo a song whose words advocates crushing rebellious Scots? (second last line) Why indeed should any Scot accept that as our National Anthem, it’s nothing to do with Scots fans being racist, I do however agree that Flower Of Scotland is equally as bad and refuse to sing either at any time

Oh Flour of Scotland
When will we see your loaf again
That got baked and was fried
In yer wee bit But and Ben
And stood against them
With their English brekkie
And sent them homewards
By half past ten
Those days are Lorne now
Though some links still remain
And we can still rise now
Like a pan or sliced plain.

The dullest dirge since Macca’s Yeasterday...

The last verse is no such thing. It was never believed to be in the official anthem. If it was then it's not been used for 2-300 years.

Personally, I think it's an awful anthem and that Jerusalem is better. Not a fan of Flower of Scotland either. Flour of Scotland sounds great though.
