Personally think it's a bit harsh to drop Gill, but hopefully it's given scully a kick to show he's not undroppable so he has to earn his place in goals

Not much happening either than fouls, Ashcroft getting involved after a late tackle on him meaning they were both booked, and Arbriath having a decent break without a good final ball. We've not really got going and the link up play is pretty non existent. Not helped by the stop-start nature and a couple of delays for injuries of course but we need to up the tempo.

To be honest we should be beating teams like Arbroath.
Their players have put in a full day at work, have to play a game at EEP then start their normal jobs tomm.
We are a full time club with good training facilities(our own gym) and a fitness trainer.... imo we need an experienced manager now.

I get what EEP is saying, even if he's maybe being a bit ham fisted about it - Part-time teams do tend to struggle with midweek fixtures because many of them have worked then played the same day, whereas on a Saturday most of them haven't had to go straight from the day job to get on the team bus. It also stretches their squads that bit more as they sometimes have enforced changes to make or feel they need to freshen the team up even on the back of a good result.

The second half performance was a lot better tonight (not that it was hard) but we need to have that urgency and quick tempo from the start. The game should have been out of sight by the end but Arbroath were still countering and not giving up. Hopefully the two goals (both well taken) will give Nisbet some confidence and keeping a clean sheet will obviously help the defence and Scully. A big win for sure but it means little if we don't back it up with another three points on Saturday.

Much better second half with two good goals from clinical finishing.

We were solid at the back and Dow, Ryan, Nesbit and Kiltie seemed to gel the longer the game went.

Arbroath have had some season so far so a really good 3 points.

an improved second half , our back four all played well, I thought Andy Ryan put in a very solid shift, surprised he went off so assume he was injured. Scully did well with what little he had to deal with. With a stronger ref Arbroath’s card count could have been doubled. Liked the look of their number 5 O’Brien won everything in the air.
Still think the midfield is mis-firing - not enough players showing for the ball.

Just got back in the hoose, I love these evening games with the flood lights on. A well deserved victory today. I was surprised by the amount of fouls Arbroath gave away, think it was about 17 in the end. Some teams love kicking us about the pitch. Hopefully our players came through unscathed. Roll on Saturday!

Parrot, you need to go and read up on what some part time players do. Some may be able to take annual leave, but many can't (teachers and the like) and yes, many of them do do either a full day or a half day before playing in the evening games. Our players would normally do two or three hours a day training but won't have trained this afternoon. Sometimes I do wonder if you are permanently at the wind up and are playing an elaborate long game...

Wetherby, Tam O'Brien was the best defender in League One last season and has always had something about him. He's shown he's one of the best defenders in the Championship this season. Not sure what his deal is but I'm surprised he's not been snapped up by a bigger club.

Good win.

We really started to open Arbroath up in the SH, could have had more. Hopefully this will inject a bit of belief into the team. The front line of Ryan, Nissbet, Kiltie & Dow flooding forward with Turner breaking from midfield is exciting stuff.

Arbroath tried to intimidate us & we ran them into the ground. They were shattered at full time.

O'Brien was lucky to stay on the park after that assault on Ashcroft. For an experienced referee, McKendrick was very weak and gave Arbroath a free rein to kick everything that moved.

Can we stop this stuff about part-time teams? All the teams in the Championship are there on merit. How they structure their club is up to them.

Poor game in the main, but happy to get a fairly routine win.

Not impressed with the wide open formation tonight, and I don't think it really worked having Ryan up front with Nisbet mainly playing slightly deeper. After the first goal it also resulted in a lengthy spell where the game changed, we didn't respond and we completely gave away control of the midfield. Crawford is due some credit for the change which addressed both points together and made us much stronger, though I did think it should have happened earlier. I'd expected Nisbet to come off as he'd had quite a poor game, but the reorganisation with Beadling into midfield and Nisbet going up as main striker worked pretty well.

I don't think we're good enough to play an open system like that from the start, and I much preferred how we set up against Ayr which I thought worked quite well. It's hard to see a good pairing in the middle if we go like that and although Nisbet was obviously told to drop back into midfield to cover, he didn't seem comfortable doing that and once I noticed him having to be reminded that it was his job to drop back and help out. Some attacking players seem to be happy doing that but he doesn't seem to be one of them. Two decent goals from him though, though did the first one get a deflection?

Well played Lee Ashcroft and Lewis Martin tonight. As well as defending, they were also having to make a lot of the play from the back with nothing ahead of them and both had good games.

Not a good game and a lot of basic mistakes across the pitch, but nice to win a game without playing well, though we did deserve the points in the emd.

We are competing with full time teams. We've only lost 4 games and 2 of them are against United who have a massive playing budget compared to ours. I'm struggling to work out whether you're on the wind up or just dense.

I'm also going to go out on a limb here and hazard a guess that there aren't many teachers in the Arbroath ranks.

Why can't some of you just enjoy a win FFS?

Possession - 49% Pars
Shots - Pars 12; Arbroath 2
Shorts on target - Pars 7; Arbroath 0

First half was poor, second half much better, especially after taking the lead. Arbroath were (unsurprisingly) very physical, the referee was slow taking out his yellow card which didn't help.

Some encouraging signs, Ryan was lively again, Nisbet took his goals well but his general play was mixed and our defence was very solid all evening.

I agree with Socks, the main concern for me is the centre of midfield, Paton has been good recently, credit where it's due but having either Cochrane or Turner alongside him leaves us pretty lightweight in there. Kiltie is more effective playing behind a striker but unless we stick Turner out on the left or take a risk with Coley, at the moment there is not really another option.

Still a well deserved win and hopefully we can follow it up on Saturday. If you add Murray, Thomson and McCann to that 11 it looks pretty strong.

First half was one to forget. Dunfermline could not get any fluency, mainly due to poor passing or first touches and Arbroath's cynicism.

Much improved second half with some good interchanges and both goals were well taken and involved good set up play. Nisbet had two decent chances to get his hat trick and Kiltie should have done better with a half volley, but managed to fall over at the wrong time.

Turner looked lost at times in the physical battle in midfield and I'm not sure how many headers Edwards lost? Both would be worries for me when up against similarly big teams.

You can see that Crawford is still tinkering with his system, trying to get his main players in, but the balance is still not right and his best team might not be available until Thomson and Murray are back?

Three at the back might be a system he will try out? He could have the players to play it?

It might be a bit harsh on the lads who have featured in centre midfield so far, but I'd like to see Tom Beadling get a few starts alongside Paton, to see if they can gel and form a good partnership.

First half was extremely scrappy due to our poor passing and Arbroath over physical style of play breaking up any pattern of play that might have occurred. Second half we approached it with far more urgency and moved the ball a bit quicker and the passing improved. Should have scored more goals at the end as Arbroath were getting tired but important result and3 points in the bag. By the way even if Murray was fit I would not change the back 4 especially the 2 centre backs who are playing really well just now. Hope i don't jinx them for sat.

heard Ian McCall on radio last week saying OBrien was one if not the best defender in the league. Could be one of those players working FT in a good job so FT doesnt suit.

Difference 2nd half?

Get the ball on the ground and play
football, simples!

O'Brien, son of former youth player, who joined same year as Mercer, Kenny Thomson all from Townhill Boys Club, 1967/68?
