What did Gill do deserve to be dropped in the first place? Was his last game with us not our last win?

Think you're right Ross, played in the win against Morton at East End where he conceded once then dropped for the trip to Dundee where Scully conceded 4.

Maybe not the answer berkey but scully is hopeless he makes a James hunt of things then automatically tries to blame his defence it’s almost as if the defence don’t trust him and end up making mistakes Would our last 5 results be any different if it had been gill in goals? I don’t know but imo gill needs to be put back between the sticks for the dundee game

In my opinion Gill was just coming good after an excellent display away at Ayr then got dropped for Dundee away. Since then we’ve had the combo of Scully Ashcroft and Devine. Individually can have their moments good and bad - but together it’s disaster.

I just felt for Scully yesterday as he came off at full time. He looked absolutely mentally shook. For all I wanted to throttle him at the time of the goal, you see that and it makes you think. For his own well-being I hope they swap the keepers for next game and give him a bit of space.

The third goal he conceded yesterday emphasised why he is not remotely Championship standard.

Why Stevie moved for him last January bewildered me.

We MUST have a new goalkeeper in this Transfer Window.

And have 4 keepers on the books? Aye very good in the 3 games prior to scully put back in goals cammy gill looked good and pulled off some fantastic saves more so towards the end of the game against ayr which imo stopped us getting beat in those 3 games gill conceded 2 compare that to 3 games into scully’s 5 game run in goals where he conceded 9 and it’s clear to see who the better keeper of the 2 is

Niether keeper is of the standard required both are crap at anything crossed into the box , we need a commanding presence then maybe the defence will settle down

Failure to bring in a new goalkeeper in the Transfer Window could clinch relegation. That is how stark the choice is.

Surely the goalkeeper coach had to go two keepers who have been shambolic at coming for crosses for ages but has never seemed like they have gotten any better even slightly better. But imo I'd get rid of all 3 of them 2 keepers not good enough.

c'mon the pars

Gill in my opinion is better than Scully. His biggest problems are setting out a wall and his positioning at cross balls. It should be with better coaching to get this positioning better.

For me Gill's biggest weakness is that he seems very reluctant to leave his goal line and come for balls in the air. Scully also doesn't command in the air either (e.g. third goal yesterday), and sadly is not the keeper he was in his first spell with us. Gill also sometimes seems caught back on his heels, and then is unable to move quickly enough. For me, neither are currently good enough for the Championship and both probably have suffered a lack of confidence after a few mistakes. To be fair - both keepers have made some great saves too; but on account of their lack of ability to command in the air and occasional errors, if I was the manager, my number 1 priority would be to get another keeper in the transfer window.

Interestingly, Peter Schmeichel was singing Nigel Pearson's praises when he was Leicester boss, when he, in a positive, rather than critical way, encouraged his son Casper to work on coming out more for crosses. The conversation got round to Pearson and how when he had come into Watford he had managed to turn things round. Somebody made the comment that previously they had coaches and that Pearson was a manager who had given them belief, got them organised and motivated them.

The third goal yesterday is an embarrassment.
The guys kicking is a joke as well, I mean how hard is it to kick the ball in the air? Basic, basic aspects of goalkeeping that this guy cannot do.
Decent shot stopper but No presence, doesn’t command his area and shocking distribution = not a very good keeper.
Gill wasn’t great either but better than Scully.

I could not care who the prettiest is, I just want a solid no nonsense keeper who can command his area and communicate with the defence, our current two incumbents are not capable of this

I believe we should of kept young Gill in goal and let him make mistakes & also encouraged him & seen if his confidence grew. He’s hardly gonna grow in confidence when he’s dropped after we win a game. Then replaced by Scully a more experienced keeper who makes just as many mistakes. Gill deserved a decent run but sadly he’s never been given the chance.

On this day in 1928 Jimmy McGrory Celtic put 8 goals passed Dunfermline and had 2 more chalked off for offside in our 9-0 defeat.

The bridies had more meat in them though.

you need 4 keepers for different reasons, from training schedules, reserves games, injuries etc....

Scully needs to move on for his own good.
Gill nowhere near good enough at this level.

any keeper will do for some people so that's an easy signing then to make.

Rangers, Hearts and Celtic forums all have a thread on him too.
You listen to most managers and they say "everyone is looking for strikers" so no surprise that a guy in a midtable team who is scoring plenty is catching the eye.

You hope if its happening it happens quickly to enable us to react to it, as I think we might struggle with McGill up front.

Perfectly easy to compliment Gill's clean sheet without this dig.

Dundee got a corner early doors, took a short one and nothing materialised from it.If they had done their homework it should have gone in right on top of the keeper regardless of who it was.I was delighted when I saw them taking a quick one but really strange on their part.

Reading through this thread made me realise what a cruel, unforgiving occupation football can be and how quickly we fans can turn on our own players when results are poor and they're struggling with their form.

Ryan Scully is a good pro and smashing human being. We all know that there's no hiding place for goalkeepers, but we rarely make allowances for that - quite the opposite, in fact.

How many of us remember that Nisbet missed an absolute sitter (a header from inside the six yard box),earlier this season? Had he scored, we would probably have gone on to win the game. Scully concedes a soft goal and gets pelters. That's the way it goes, because we tend to forget things that don't happen but remember those that do.

I feel for Scully because he's gone from being first choice to third in a matter of days. Some will say it's his own fault but that's very harsh. He must be going through his own private hell right now. I hope someone tells him there's a good keeper in there as we saw during his first spell here when we were very sad at his recall by Partick.

I wish him all the best in getting back to that kind of form really soon.

Good post GG , I clearly remember wondering how we would replace Scully after his first spell came to an end , he had been in superb form. If anyone cares to do a bit of research I seem to recollect that he won many MOtM awards first time around and he was often all that stood between us and defeat.

He won the following:- 14/15 DAFC Player of the Year,14/15 Player's Player of the Year, 14/15 Centenary Club Lifeline Player of the Year,13/14 DAFC Player of the Year-not bad for only playing 69 games in that spell! It's pretty obvious why Crawford brought him back it's just unfortunate that this spell hasn't been as good.

Noticed it is Gill who is playing for the reserves today.

That's what makes some of the derogatory posts, regarding his ability, especially sad, imo. A good player doesn't become a bad player overnight. It's obviously a confidence issue. A lot of football is played inside a player's head. The manager has given him a fair crack of the whip to try and recover his best form - some think he got too many chances.

Noticed it is Gill who is playing for the reserves today.

And Gill was on the bench on Saturday, so it looks very much as if Scullyhas gone from No.1 to 3rd choice. You'd have to be off your head to want to be a goalie. It's a lonely job when you're not playing well.....
