 Steven McLean

Just seen a Hearts fan twitter page mention that we’re due to be speaking with Steven McLean this week about him signing. Good experience but sure he’s made of chocolate.

I really hope not. He's struggling big time at Hearts.

Much better then what we have to partner Nisbet. Completely different level from hearts

According to the same page, MacLean is coming to replace Nisbet who is on his way to Hibs. Nonsense if you ask me

Ah, I didn’t read that far. I don’t think Hearts have a million quid lying about to buy a striker after signing Boyce today.

it was on twitter and the Hearts fan forum before the "replacement for Nisbet" one started, on its own I can see it happening, the replacement bit no chance imo.

Would be a decent signing for this level. I think he would compliment Nisbet. It could end up being similar to the Crawford/Brewster combo we had long ago.

He's been good (arguably very good) over the years but my girlfriend is a Jambo and I've probably been to more of their games over the last couple of years than I have ours and I really don't think he can add much to us. There's a reason Hearts are being ruthless with their old timers at the moment.

If/when Kevin Nisbet is sold the Pars should get Innes CAMERON from a Kilmarnock to replace him. I think he is injured at the moment though.

You couldnae make it up... oh, many already have!

I was listening to stevie Crawford interview an I think he was just about to say he has signed one more player.
As he said he is delighted (which at this point I thought he was going to announce it) to then go on an say to be allowed to get one more player.
So I am taken 2+2 =5 lol

But another striker is what we need plus maybe a goalkeeper.

Credit where it’s due tho Crawford and coaching staff got the tactics bang on last night.

This would be a rotten signing in my opinion. Good player in his day but absolutely past it now.

Would definitely offer something we don't currently have. No risk in a 6 month deal to support Nisbet.

He would be ideal to compliment Nisbet. Nisbet is still our main man. If we are genuinely interested in McLean, it’ll be to partner Nizzy, not take over from him.

Would like to hope if McLean is coming in we’ve plans for another goal scorer to come in.

It’s looking likely Nisbet will stay at least until end of season but if he ends up injured I worry where goals will come from.

He would be the perfect compliment for Nisbet, unsure as to why some people are writing him off.

37 is hardly a problem if you're only offering a short-term deal. I haven't seen McLean play recently but we might benefit from a player who is mentally sharp rather than physically quick. His wages might be a problem though unless Hearts are prepared to compensate him for loss of earnings.

Classic .net tbh, moan like nothing else when we sign an 18 year old on loan from Aberdeen who's not experienced enough then we are linked with an experienced top flight striker and that's not g good enough either. Personally think he will bring something different to the team and is worth a punt.

We brought experience in with Mickaël Antoine-Curier and Farid El Alagui how did those work out ? There's experience and there's gone.

Antoine-Curier barely played and El Alagui’s was 100% finished due to injuries.

Nothing like comparing them to someone we probably won’t even sign.

It's a no from me. It gives us more of an excuse to play long which doesn't suit our style with wingers.

Our central midfielders don't get close enough to the strikers when we do play that way and we keep turning over possession.

C'mon Ye Pars!

El Alagui is an interesting comparison though. Unlike Courier, who looked like his attutude stank from the off, El Alagui looked a player although his legs had gone.

It might well be that Crawford is thinking back to that partnership and looking for an older target man type to compliment Nisbet.

My only concern would be that it could be a short term strategy. When (& I think it will be the summer) we lose Nisbet, McLean might not be much use to us afterwards.

I’m sure it would be to cover the 12 or so games to the end of the season and he returns to hearts.

On a loan basis to add strength, height and experience (maybe not much pace) and to compliment Nisbet he would be a good option

Were El Alagui and Curier not the sort of players who were target men? In recent years, Craig Dargo might be a more appropriate comparison.

37 isn’t that old and we are really missing a player on field that can ‘steady the ship’ when the bairns start to get nervous. There have been too many games where we’ve been ahead and the nerves have crept in allowing or almost allowing the other team to nick something. Somebody in the mould of Brewster or Ian Ferguson.

El Algui came to us off the back of a ruptured achiles tendon at Hibs and you could tell.

Shadow of the player he at Falkirk & Brentford. Always looked like he was holding back from going at it 100% as he didn't trust it from snapping again, which i guess is understandable.
