That's a shame. He's a really nice lad and he looked a promising player when he was at the Pars. I'm sure he got a few first team outings and didn't let anyone down. I was surprised when he was allowed to leave.

This ban may well end his career prematurely. Not many clubs are likely to want to take a gamble on him with that on his CV.

Not your average Sunday League player.

I don’t smoke weed but the sooner they legalise it, the better. It’s hardly performance enhancing is it? Well, sports anyway 😏. What a farce.

Definitely Zod, especially now the police have a roadside test for drivers. I know a few guys who use every nights and now have chosen not to no longer drive, as they would always test positive even 2 days later. Yes they wouldn’t be effected then but we need something to create the stigma that drink driving thankfully has.

Wow, ruining a young lads career for smoking weed is very very harsh.

Can only hope he sticks in, keeps up some sort of training routine and then is given a chance in a couple years by a club thats not too up its own bottom about something that is barely a crime.

Ludicrous decision when players can go out and get smashed.

I Hope You're Ok Today....

Going by that article the legality of the drug has nothing to do with it:

Pat Myhill, UK Anti-Doping Director of Operations said: “Cannabis is prohibited in sport due to the various psychological and physiological effects it can have on athletes.

“Whilst its use Out-of-Competition is not prohibited in sport, it is prohibited if found in a sample given In-Competition.

I've no doubt those rules are influenced by the legal status and it's all too do with a nannying system just saying "drugs are bad".

I wonder if the same is true for alcohol. I'm sure that can have psychological and physiological effects...on athletes. Your body is clear of it much more quickly so less likely to test positive, but would a player be banned for two years if so?

Seems particularly harsh. It's a drug that can end up in your system by mistake. Very clean cut friend of mine who had friends that "partook" and after an evening in their company he had problems at his work after a random drug test (civil engineer). Managed to straighten it out but this was a guy who didn't even drink coffee let alone booze, tobacco or weed.

Ironic the 'softest' drug is also the one which stays in the system the longest in terms of detection.

I wonder if he has been grassed in (sorry!) by someone as a tipoff.

Knowing a couple of folk in and around lower league level the amount and/or frequency of testing at that level is next to nothing, plus the guys are very street wise as to what they take recreationally and when they take it to circumvent this type of thing, in terms of performance testing at least.

Out of interest, when was the last time a Pars - or opposition player - was tested at EEP ?
