I'm sure they could do something with the camera, at times you can hardly see the game.

Good to hear the falkirk fans singing about Dunfermline though!

I kinda like the rain on the camera lens.. It adds a different dimension to the game... It's like "spot the baw" at times.
F*****K are sooo unlucky hitting the woodwork three times.

Connolly, Durnan, McManus, Longridge, Buchanan. Have I missed anybody out?

Not a great game but the conditions were brutal.

Falkirk team full of Pars rejects, minus McManus. He patched us to chase the money and finds himself in League 1. Up him.

Declan's father was a regular contributor on here until he left the club. IIRC, he explained that Declan had not been treated particularly well by AJ at contract renewal time. Little surprise that he went to Ross County.

He wanted to stay at EEP.

After seeing the recent table of average salaries paid by Scottish Premiership clubs I wasn't surprised guys like McManus and Morris headed north. McManus is probably still earning a Premiership salary whilst playing in League 1.

That's my understanding too, Oz. When McManus asked AJ if he was going to offer him a new contract, he was allegedly told ''Yes, if I can't sign someone better than you.''

A very honest reply, for sure, but perhaps not what McManus wanted to hear...

Have to say with the number of players who have come out and said AJ did not treat them well during the contract renewal period it leaves a sour taste in the mouth. Seems like a real lack of class

I hear what you're saying, KL, but you have to bear in mind that AJ was the manager of DAFC, not the players pal. He needed to do what was best for the club at all times and that's what he tried to do. I bet the BoD were happy at the stance he took.

Remember too, that some players like a good greet. They don't want to be kept waiting on a new deal, but equally some are pretty good at stalling on signing one if they smell a better one elsewhere.

AJ is quite loyal to players he knows and trusts. Some have followed him from club to club.

So GG Riva, you think it’s fair some players are told the week before pre season that they are not needed? Hardly fair on them to try find something else. Found it strange too when cardle signed for us in league one AJ made him play in 2 pre season games, like he wasn’t good enough 😂. Cardle’s replacements in Aidan Connolly and myles hippolyte shows how much AJ really was a clueless manager

can remember the rumour at the time was McManus was offered a deal but when the club were trying to get an answer from him or his agent, calls were ignored etc and then he turned up at County. whether it was that or GG's version come the summer id be surprised if we weren't showing an interest in him.

as for Johnston, "lack of class" is one way of putting it, there is a way to do things and his way was totally wrong imo.

Everyone knows that players have the upper hand in contract negotiations under freedom of contract so clubs are in a difficult position. We've heard all this stuff before about AJ's man-management skills. FEB would never play for him again apparently after the way he was treated. Well, he did - twice!

parsfan97 Agree 100%, Joe Cardle's treatment was absolutely shocking! No-one can say he was holding back signing a contract as it was never offered. His kids had been enrolled at their local school, so to be told by AJ one week before pre-season he was not wanted was awful.

What's strange about asking a player to play in pre-season games before the season proper has started?

No, I don't think the scenario you outline is fair at all and nowhere have I suggested that it is, so I don't understand why you're posing the question, 97.

Two wrongs don't make a right but it's equally unfair that players keep clubs waiting until the last minute in case they get a better offer from another club, when they've been offered a contract months earlier, as Faiss did during his first spell with us.

For many fans though, the players can do no wrong. Managers and the BoD are always the villains of the piece.

Players are contracted up to the 31st of May. They would have had plenty time to find something else.

I meant they would be happy that he aimed to bring better players in (within the budget he was given.)

As a fan, presumably you wouldn't be against that either? You do realise that AJ had a number of players in the squad who didn't have the best of attitudes? Players are not fans, they have little loyalty to any given club and will move on for more money, without so much as a backward glance. (e.g. Fraser Aird)

I don't blame them for that - football is a very short career, but let's not make out that players are victims or slaves of big bad clubs. These days are long gone.

G.G. I'm not so sure about that

Yes its a short career for the journey men bottom of the food chain players
Not so much for the film star players where one months wages would keep them for the rest of their lives

But if a club decides a player is of no longer use to them or a means to get a better player irrespective of their contract they can offer the player to another club in part exchange and if he refuses ..keep him training with the second squad till he has had enough

I see players now not as victims or slaves to quote your post but as commodities that can be bought or sold moved around to suit a particular craving for success without a thought for the players well being or a settled environment

Maybe we can agree to disagree, BPP. Even players at modest clubs have agents nowadays, and they are well versed in how to get the best possible deals for their clients. No player cam be bought or sold without his express consent, unlike in years gone by when clubs would tell a player they'd accepted a bid from another club do he'dbe leaving.

I'm not saying it's all sweetness and light, but it's not as bad as you paint it. All clubs want to be as successful as they can and sometimes that means they have to punt those players who don't match their ambitions.

Not sure I’d agree with that part tbh. I’d need to see an example of a player who was sold and forced to sign a contract with a new club.

Have you watched the Roy Barry interview, allparone? He was Heart's captain, thought he was playing well and the manager called him into his office to tell him the Pars and St Johnstone had both made a bid for him which Hearts had accepted and he wanted Roy to go and talk to both clubs with a view to joining one of them.

OK, he wasn't forced to sign a contract but it blindingly obvious that he wasn't wanted at Tynecastle, so he signed for the Pars. Their loss was our unbelievably good luck.

That still happens. Clubs accept bids and tell players they can go. Roy, like players today still have a choice though. It’s probably not wise to stay at a club that doesn’t want you but it’s the players choice all the same.

Agree GG but these players signed contracts so I am thinking and have done for many years that no club or player actually honours these contracts its a two way street I suppose whatever suits the club or the individual

I'm sure there will still be an element of that today, but with agents to advise them, it's nothing like as weighted in the clubs favour and it's fair to say players have the upper hand in any negotiations. I suppose it also depends on the length and worth of their contract.

In the mid 60s, I remember Alex Smith moved to Rangers for a then record fee of £51,000. He told me he was happy at the Pars and didn't want to go to Ibrox but the club told him it didn't want to lose him but needed the money from Rangers to balance the books.

He played for Rangers in that notorious SC defeat at Berwick in 1967. The strikers, Jim Forrest and George 'Dandy' McLean, were made the scapegoats and both were told they would be leaving the club and were subsequently transferred. Big Dandy ended up at EEP and took great delight in scoring both goals in a 2-1 win over his former club. I vividly remember him running behind the goal at the Cowden end after notching the winner and giving the massed hordes on the open terracing a joyous double V sign.......
