We often just see the back of their head in photos but they all have their own style.

1.Eddie Connachan of course. But what colour were his gloves that famous day in 1961?

Number 2 had a son who was a goalie.
Number 8 is an all time great
Numbers 9, 11 and 12 are Scottish internationals.
Number 15 is tricky because the keeper has just saved a penalty but he is not a goalie. Very famous.
Number 16 was the same game as number 15

There are two World Cup winners remaining.
Number 6 should be taking candy off a baby
Number 12 looks like Bobby Clark but the clue is the surprised look on Willie Callaghan’s face.

If 16 is who I think it is, one of the gentlemen mentioned has his name for a middle name, possibly coincidentally.

I hadn't realised 12 (edit - 8) played for the club in question, if I'm right.

I suspect you've given us a big clue for 6 but I can't see it.

Yep, a good final flurry cleans up all the questions.

1. Red/pink
2. Gordon Marshall
3. Gordon West
4. George Niven
5. Jose Iribar (played at EEP)
6. Eric Martin (looks like Jim Thomson in candy strip doing the clearance)
7. Peter McCloy
8. Dino Zoff (let in 5 at Easter Road)
9. Bob Wilson
10. Ronnie Simpson
11. Jim Herriott
12. Bobby Ferguson (once the world’s most expensive goalie)
13. Jim Cruickshank (saved penalty from Tommy Gemmell)
14. Ally Donaldson
15. Bobby Moore ( he saved the penalty but lost the rebound)
16. Gordon Banks (saving a penalty from Geoff Hurst)
17. Ernie McGarr (saved 3 penalties that day)
18. Keith MacRae
19. Alan Rough
20. Edwin van der Sar

Wee Eck and McCaig's Tower did most of the digging. Zoff had a number on his back which was a continental thing back then. The Bobby Moore question was a bit unfair but he did almost save a penalty- then Banks saved one at the other end.

Yes, I would agree 6 is Eric Martin. That hairstyle is just so memorable!

Who is the chubby Celtic player next to Ernie McGarr? Is it Dixie Deans?

:)

I can clearly remember the photo in number 11 Herriot and Callaghan, it appeared in an annual called I think Scottish Football - I am sure that I have the photo in a scrap book that I collected as a nipper.

I wondered if 6 was Ian (?) Anderson who played a few times for the Pars mid '60s - a toss up with Eric Martin.

Who are Jim Herriot and Willie Callaghan playing against - and is it a full international level game ?

That was Dave Anderson, vee, who was signed on a free from Hearts I think. Didn't he play in that famous 5-6 game against Hibs at EEP?

Thanks for this. Sammer - good work.

I think Wee Eck did most of the work - I just hung around the 6-yard box looking for tap-ins.

Willie Callaghan only played twice for Scotland - scandalously. (I assume there was always an Old Firm player available that could have played out of position). One of those caps was a friendly against the Republic of Ireland - he came on as a half-time sub (Herriot had already replaced Ernie McGarr).

Wetherby, was that Hugh Taylor's Scottish Football Book? I remember getting one for Christmas and reading it avidly - it had picture of a very young Stewart Kennedy having conceded goals at Shawfield I think.

Gordon Marshall junior's middle names are George and Banks - I did wonder if Banks was given as tribute to the England keeper of the time, but I suspect it is just a co-incidence.

I assume Zoff was playing for Napoli at Easter Road.

Both Bobby Clark and Keith MacRae were good enough ballers to have played outfield for their clubs, apparently

VEE. It was Davy Anderson that was reserve goalie at the time and that's what made me think of Eric Martin. I'm sure He went to Southampton after us.
I knew Davy Anderson well and he had a few stories to tell of his time in football. I'm sure I done wee obituary to him a few years ago.

I loved the program cover in the early 60s with Eddie 'connachan' diving, hands outstretched and with his mouth open and eyes open. great photie.

I spent all of my school holidays at my Grans in Kincardine as my Braw Mam and Dad worked back then
I remember playing football with the local lads on the pitch at the Feregait and Stewart was always the goalie and a funny guy as well
I am still good Pals with his Brother Kyle

If I recall correctly Kennedy was on our books as a youngster but was released without breaking into the first team. Maybe someone can confirm.

I've done a bit of digging and it seems to hang together (although I know the memory can play tricks).

I think the annual I had was No 15 which is dated 69. Whichever, I remember it contained an article by Willie Callaghan "Not just the big two, but the big three"; and a feature on us losing 4-1 to the Auld Enemy - I think Herriot was in goals that day - he had replaced Tommy Lawrence in the Wales game. There was a picture of a pitch invader who had "tried to give the hard-pressed Scots a hand"

So that suggests the annual covered the 1968/69 season when we finished 3rd.

We had our usual disappointing league cup campaign, finishing bottom of our section - losing the last match 3-0 at Shawfield back in August 68.

Inspection of the Pars Database suggests Stewart played one League Cup match, and it was that season.

I'm going to speculate that as that game was meaningless (to us) Stewart was given what turned out to be his only start.

(All my life, I've assumed he had played at least a handful of games - I think I must have been misled by the preponderance of pictures of him lying flat with the ball nestling in the net behind him)

I remember having the Hugh Taylor annual in which he featured the famous 10-1 home win over Partick Thistle in the last game of season 1958/59 which saved us from relegation from the First Division. I specifically remember him referring to 'the pleasant town of Dunfermline'. He wrote for the Daily Record I think.
