 Bundesliga getting ready to return
Topic Originator: OzPar
Date:   Tue 28 Apr 02:20

Germany's Bundesliga is preparing to return to the pitch in less than two weeks — pending a green light from the German government.

A maximum of 300 people would be allowed inside a stadium and players would be tested for coronavirus regularly.

The German Government is yet to sign off on the plan to resume the league on May 9.

If it does get approval, it will be the first top-flight football competition in the world to return from an enforced break due to coronavirus and will become a test case for how other leagues approach a return to competition.

If it looks feasible, certainly English prem is trying to gear up going by the noises.

It's not a starter for Scotland, but economically it's getting clearer that we need to salvage whatever is left while safeguarding.

Can't see other than top football.

France saying no sport until September. Good decision. We should follow suit. After all we are rapidly becoming the worst affected country in Europe.

I do wonder if football will go ahead in Germany. Since they have eased their lockdown restrictions the infection rate has started to rise.

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd

Agree with TOWK. Can't see them getting the go ahead just now with cases going the wrong way

"Can't see other than top football."

Jason Leitch was asked about the restarting of football on Radio Scotland this morning - his outlook was that it's still months away, given the present circumstances.

Yes, it's just a case of the numbers consistently reducing to an acceptable level, and then gradually going back with the least risky first.

Football by it's very nature is at the bottom of that list, the timescale no one can tell, but best scenario looks September, maybe not this year! It just has to be whatever the time takes.

All countries are different, it's not ideal really to look too much at Germany or whatever, in time that will also throw up some uncomfortable truths about each country.

To be honest, apart from the obvious negatives, and the upcoming carnage, I'm enjoying this, have no problems filling the time.

How precisely are we the worst affected country in Europe?

Only Denmark and Portugal, of nations of similar size, have had far fewer deaths.

FIFA are suggesting a resumption in early September though ,realistically, the early games will be streamed from behind closed doors. The Scottish Football Authorities are currently examining welfare and contracts in preparation for the meeting with the Scottish Sports Minister.

Meanwhile, the time has come for the SPFL Board to declare the Premiership over.

It would be absolute madness, to even contemplate playing football, any time soon.People are dying on a daily basis, and you can forget this behind closed doors rubbish. How to do you do that ,with ,24 players, subs and officials, in a limited space, people are not thinking this through.

As OzPar says in the opening post, the Bundesliga are planning to resume in late May.

Players in their top two Divisions are tested every two days.

Matches will be televised behind closed doors.

German newspapers say that fans are unlikely to be admitted again this year.

England is under growing pressure to follow suit among others eg Denmark.

May be feasible for the big leagues. Testing players every two days and televising games is hardly going to happen in the spfl anytime soon is it?

No, I can't see how we can start until a bit clearer.

It may be over 70s have to quarantine etc. While the rest of us try to work our way out of this or even wade through it, either way we can't start until it is clearer.

Twin Par and Neils above are absolutely correct.

What might (the operative word) happen in Germany or anywhere else is irrelevant to our ongoing circumstances.

Well said veteraneastender.Common sense, hopefully prevails! Even the thought of starting to play games,is obscene, an insult to care workers families ,who have lost loved ones.

Let’s just be clear. There was no agreement (never has been) to restart the Bundesliga on 9 May. So when there’s no agreement, the restart can’t be pushed back. The federal and state governments have not taken a formal position on the request by the DFL & won’t today either.
Daily Mail running a story about Merkel pushing league back ,where as Derek Rae says it was never guaranteed to start anyway.

Germany has seen a rise in new Covid 19 cases since easing restrictions.
I have my doubts they will be starting football anytime soon.
It's not so much about the games or players that's the issue but fans gathering together in houses to watch them on TV.

If you only turn up to moan then do it elsewhere

The Federal and State authorities call the shots - the Bundesliga can plan and prepare for an eventual resumption, but that's as far as it goes without government approval.

The same in any country.
